A table of the electrical conductivity of sea water at atmospherical pressure as a function of salinity and temperature, compiled from values presented by THOMAS, THOMPSON, UTTERBACK, Cox, and REEBURGH, is approximated by a polynomial. In addition to the dependence of conductivity on pressure stated by BRADSHAW and SCHLEICHER a polynomial is determined which represents conductivity as a function of salinity, temperature and pressure. Furthermore a corresponding polynomial representing the velocity of sound as established by WILSON is used. From these quantities salinity and pressure are calculated approximately as functions of temperature, conductivity and sound speed, as well as salinity as a function of temperature, pressure and conductivity and presented in the form of polynomials, in the aim to obtain the basic quantities from those observed directly with apparatus of the continuous-profiling type. The calculation is formulated for use on an electronic computer. The derived formulae are valid for almost all regions of the oceans and for all depths with a precision meeting the usual rather high requirements provisionally in most cases. The effects of errors in the measurement of the directly measureable quantities, on salinity and on the anomaly of the specific volume are discussed

Rüstung in Europa: Zwänge und Optionen zur Optimierung europäischer Rüstungsprozesse

'Mitte Juni haben sich die Außenminister über die wesentlichen Eckpunkte der neu einzurichtenden Europäischen Verteidigungsagentur geeinigt. Mit ihr werden weit reichende Hoffnungen zur Verbesserung der europäischen militärischen Fähigkeiten und zur Intensivierung der europäischen Rüstungszusammenarbeit verbunden. Ob die Agentur den in sie gesetzten Hoffnungen gerecht werden können wird, hängt entscheidend von der Bereitschaft ihrer Mitglieder ab, Rüstungsprozesse und ihre politischen Rahmenbedingungen auf der Basis gemeinsamer Ziele auch gemeinsam zu gestalten. Diese Bereitschaft ist alles andere als sicher. Die Studie untersucht vor diesem Hintergrund die Entwicklungsoptionen von Rüstung in Europa, also das Umfeld, in dem die Europäische Verteidigungsagentur operieren muss. Sie diskutiert zwei als realistisch betrachtete Entwicklungsoptionen und kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass die zur Umsetzung der ESVP-Ambitionen notwendige Vertiefung der europäischen Rüstungszusammenarbeit von einer kleineren Gruppe europäischer Staaten vorangetrieben werden sollte. In diesem 'Kern' müssten die Fähigkeits- und Streitkräfteplanung aufs engste koordiniert, wenn nicht sogar gemeinsam gestaltet werden. Darüber hinaus müssten die Mitglieder ihren eigenen gemeinsamen Markt mit gemeinsamen Beschaffungs- und Wettbewerbsregeln sowie Regeln für den innergemeinschaftlichen Transfer und den Export in Länder außerhalb der EU entwickeln. Die Entwicklung des deutschen Rüstungsexportes in den 90er Jahren: Ergebnisse der vier wichtigsten internationalen Statistiken

In der deutschen Rüstungsexportdiskussion ist in den letzten Jahren, insbesondere aber im Zuge der Neufassung der politischen Richtlinien für den deutschen Rüstungsexport wiederholt die These vertreten worden, Deutschland bzw. die deutsche Rüstungsindustrie spiele im internationalen Rüstungshandel vor allem mit Entwicklungsländern eine bedeutende Rolle. Diese Studie untersucht anhand der vier wichtigsten internationalen Rüstungsexportstatistiken, ob die empirischen Daten der 90er Jahre diese These stützen und damit die Notwendigkeit einer restriktiveren Handhabung der Exportgenehmigungspraxis begründen, wie sie Ende des Jahrzehnts beschlossen wurde. Sie ist insofern auch als empirisches Fundament für die aktuelle und zukünftige Diskussion dieses Themas gedacht. Die Studie kommt zu folgenden Ergebnissen: Im internationalen Rüstungshandel der 90er Jahre - wie er von den vier wichtigsten internationalen Rüstungsexportstatistiken erfaßt und jährlich dokumentiert wird - spielen Deutschland und die deutsche Industrie nur eine marginale Rolle, wenn man einmal vom Marineschiffbau absieht. Anders als die öffentliche Diskussion oft nahelegt, gilt dies insbesondere für den Export konventioneller Waffensysteme in Entwicklungsländer. Darin stimmen die verschiedenen Statistiken bei allen methodischen Unterschieden überein. Zudem besteht die überwiegende Zahl der von Deutschland in den 90er Jahren exportierten Waffensysteme aus gebrauchtem Gerät der Bundeswehr und der NVA, das in NATO-Staaten und nach Skandinavien geliefert wurde. Bei den industriellen Exporten insbesondere in Entwicklungsländer handelt es sich nahezu ausschließlich um Kriegsschiffe. Научная квалификационная работа посещена исследованию пульсаций электромагнитного момента в магнитоэлектрическом двигателе рулевой колонки автотранспортного средства. В первой главе выполнен обзор исследований на тему магнитоэлектрических машин с различной компоновкой магнитов на роторе и осуществлена постановка задачи научной квалификационной работы. Во второй главе рассмотрены вопросы имитационного моделирования магнитоэлектрической машины в конечно-элементной компьютерной среде. Выполнено планирование эксперимента, получена взаимосвязь между количеством пазов ротора, зубцами статора, коэрцитивной силы магнитов с позиции значений электромагнитного момента. В третьей главе выполнен расчет связанной модели магнитоэлектрический двигатель-инвертор напряжения-система управления.Scientific qualification work is visited to a research of pulsations of the electromagnetic torque in the magnetoelectric motor of a steering column of the vehicle. In chapter 1 the review of researches on magnetoelectric machine with various configuration of magnets on a rotor is executed and problem definition of scientific qualification work is carried out. In chapter 2 questions of a simulation modeling of the magnetoelectric machine in the terminating and element computer environment are considered. Metabolomics of dietary fatty acid restriction in patients with phenylketonuria

Patients with phenylketonuria (PKU) have to follow a lifelong phenylalanine restricted diet. This type of diet markedly reduces the intake of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids especially long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA). Long-chain saturated fatty acids are substrates of mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation for acetyl-CoA production. LC-PUFA are discussed to affect inflammatory and haemostaseological processes in health and disease. The influence of the long term PKU diet on fatty acid metabolism with a special focus on platelet eicosanoid metabolism has been investigated in the study presented here. 12 children with PKU under good metabolic control and 8 healthy controls were included. Activated fatty acids (acylcarnitines C6-C18) in dried blood and the cholesterol metabolism in serum were analyzed by liquid chromatographic tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Fatty acid composition of plasma glycerophospholipids was determined by gas chromatography. LC-PUFA metabolites were analyzed in supernatants by LC-MS/MS before and after platelet activation and aggregation using a standardized protocol. Patients with PKU had significantly lower free carnitine and lower activated fatty acids in dried blood compared to controls. Phytosterols as marker of cholesterol (re-) absorption were not influenced by the dietary fatty acid restriction. Fatty acid composition in glycerophospholipids was comparable to that of healthy controls. However, patients with PKU showed significantly increased concentrations of y-linolenic acid (C18:3n-6) a precursor of arachidonic acid. In the PKU patients significantly higher platelet counts were observed. After activation with collagen platelet aggregation and thromboxane B(2) and thromboxane B(3) release did not differ from that of healthy controls. Long-term dietary fatty acid restriction influenced the intermediates of mitochondrial beta-oxidation. No functional influence on unsaturated fatty acid metabolism and platelet aggregation in patients with PKU was detected
