Nitrogen Heterocycles Form Peptide Nucleic Acid Precursors in Complex Prebiotic Mixtures

The ability to store information is believed to have been crucial for the origin and evolution of life; however, little is known about the genetic polymers relevant to abiogenesis. Nitrogen heterocycles (N-heterocycles) are plausible components of such polymers as they may have been readily available on early Earth and are the means by which the extant genetic macromolecules RNA and DNA store information. Here, we report the reactivity of numerous N-heterocycles in highly complex mixtures, which were generated using a Miller-Urey spark discharge apparatus with either a reducing or neutral atmosphere, to investigate how N-heterocycles are modified under plausible prebiotic conditions. High throughput mass spectrometry was used to identify N-heterocycle adducts. Additionally, tandem mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy were used to elucidate reaction pathways for select reactions. Remarkably, we found that the majority of N-heterocycles, including the canonical nucleobases, gain short carbonyl side chains in our complex mixtures via a Strecker-like synthesis or Michael addition. These types of N-heterocycle adducts are subunits of the proposed RNA precursor, peptide nucleic acids (PNAs). The ease with which these carbonylated heterocycles form under both reducing and neutral atmospheres is suggestive that PNAs could be prebiotically feasible on early Earth

Calorimetric Study of Inulin as Cryo- and Lyoprotector of Bovine Plasma Proteins

Inulin is a generic term applied to heterogeneous blends of fructo-oligosaccharides which are reserve carbohydrate sources present in many plant foods such as bananas,onions, garlic, leeks, artichokes and chicory, which represents the main commercial source.This polysaccharide has a wide range of both, nutritional and technological applications.Nutritionally, inulin is regarded as a soluble fiber which promotes the growth of intestinalbacteria, acting as a prebiotic. Also, is a non-digestible carbohydrate with minimal impact on blood sugar and unlike fructose, it is not insulemic and does not raise triglycerides being generally considered suitable for diabetics and potentially helpful in managing blood sugarrelated illnesses . Among the technological benefits, inulin is used as fat and sugar replacement, low caloric bulking agent, texturing and water-binding agent . One general property of the saccharides is the stabilization of proteins by their incorporation into carbohydrate solutions before freeze-drying being this a known preservation procedure. The previous incorporation of saccharide promotes the formation of amorphous, glassy systems, inhibits crystallization and influences the kinetics of deteriorative reactions upon storage by which its structured integrity is maintained . To act successfully as a protectant, the saccharides should have a high glass transition temperature (Tg), a poor hygroscopicity, a low crystallization rate, containing no reducing groups. When freezedrying is envisaged as a method of drying, a relatively high T´g of the freeze concentrated fraction is preferable. Previous studies demonstrated that inulin meets these requirements being excellent protector of therapeutical proteins and viruses over the drying and storage processes .The glass transition temperatures of the maximally concentrated frozen solutions (T´g) wereanalyzed and compared to the experimental results by applying the predictive equations of Miller/Fox and Gordon/Taylor extended for multi-component systems. The glass transition (Tg) of the freeze dried multi-component mixtures, the onset crystallization temperature (Tc) of the solute at temperatures above Tg, in the freeze dried samples were determined.Furthermore, the kinetics of the denaturation and the thermal denaturation (Td) of the freeze-dried samples, at different DSC scan rates, protein concentrations and pH, were analyzed and the thermodynamic compatibility of the different matrix components were determined. The enthalpy change involved in the denaturation reactions of proteins was also determined. Lo público y lo privado en la educación Argentina en el marco del proyecto político de la alianza cambiemos (2015-2019): notas críticas sobre una agenda de investigación

El artículo presenta algunos rasgos relevantes de la política educativa del gobierno de M. Macri en Argentina (2015-2019) con el objeto de analizar la evolución de las distintas formas de privatización educativa, los cambios en las fronteras entre lo público y privado en educación, y los enfoques investigativos que buscan comprenderlos. Señalando los límites políticos y económicos del ciclo de doce años de gobiernos “progresistas” de N. Kirchner y C. Fernández, se repasan las principales medidas del programa de profundo “ajuste” y reestructuración de las condiciones de acumulación, y las principales consecuencias en términos de deterioro de la situación económica y social general, y su correlato en el sistema educativo público (ajuste presupuestario, “racionalización” del sistema educativo, deterioro salarial docente). Se repasan los principales enfoques con los que se analiza en Argentina la tendencia a la privatización endógena y exógena, en un sistema caracterizado históricamente por una fuerte presencia del Estado como proveedor de educación. Se propone un enfoque alternativo más sensible a las condiciones en las que se produce y reproduce la sociedad capitalista como un todo y en su expresión nacional, basado en un análisis materialista que restaura la unidad de las dimensiones económicas y políticas para explicar las transformaciones de la educación pública, el papel del Estado y los sistemas educativo

Production and Sensory Evaluation of Novel Cheeses Made with Prebiotic Substances: Inulin and Oligofructose

In recent years, the processing and consumption of functional foods worldwide have greatly increased. These foods benefit the body functions which improve consumers’ health and also reduce the risk factors that cause the onset of disease. Furthermore, prebiotic substances favor the multiplication of beneficial intestinal bacteria rather than harmful ones. The purpose of this study was to conduct the sensory evaluation of two functional cheeses containing inulin and oligofructose as a distinctive ingredient, including testing a cheese made with conventional ingredients, called control cheese. Affective type tests, which measured the degree of liking or disliking, were conducted using a verbal 7-point hedonic scale. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 57 untrained judges were selected. This study is a quantitative, analytic and experimental-cross design. Statistical analysis of the data was performed by ANOVA with repeated measures. The results show a similar average degree of liking for the three cheeses, above 5 on the scale or “like”. By analyzing the critical level and the result of the Mauchly’s sphericity test, it is concluded that there is no statistically significant difference in the degree of liking for the three cheeses. Therefore, the addition of prebiotics to artisanal cheeses achieves to satisfy consumers and provide them benefits superior to those provided by traditional foods.Fil: Machuca, Laura Marcela. The progenitors of the intra-cluster light and intra-cluster globular clusters in galaxy groups and clusters

We use the IllustrisTNG50 cosmological hydrodynamical simulation, complemented by a catalog of tagged globular clusters, to investigate the properties and build up of two extended luminous components: the intra-cluster light (ICL) and the intra-cluster globular clusters (ICGC). We select the 39 most massive groups and clusters in the box, spanning the range of virial masses $5 \times 10^{12} < \rm M_{200}/\rm M_{\odot} < 2 \times 10^{14}$. We find good agreement between predictions from the simulations and current observational estimates of the fraction of mass in the ICL and its radial extension. The stellar mass of the ICL is only $\sim10\%-20\%$ of the stellar mass in the central galaxy but encodes useful information on the assembly history of the group or cluster. About half the ICL in all our systems is brought in by galaxies in a narrow stellar mass range, $M_*=10^{10}-10^{11}$ $\rm M_{\odot}$. However, the contribution of low-mass galaxies ($M_*<10^{10}$ $\rm M_{\odot}$) to the build-up of the ICL varies broadly from system to system, $\sim 5\%-45\%$, a feature that might be recovered from the observable properties of the ICL at $z=0$. At fixed virial mass, systems where the accretion of dwarf galaxies plays an important role have shallower metallicity profiles, less metal content and a lower stellar mass in the ICL than systems where the main contributors are more massive galaxies. We show that intra-cluster GCs are also good tracers of this history, representing a valuable alternative when diffuse light is not detectable

Anticancer Activity of Alkynylgold(I) with P(NMe2)3 Phosphane in Mouse Colon Tumors and Human Colon Carcinoma Caco-2 Cell Line

New alkynylgold(I) with P(NMe2)3 (HMPT) phosphane complexes, [Au(CC-R)(HMPT)] (R= 4-Ph, 4-MePh, 4-OMe, 4-Br, 4-Cl, 2-py, and 3-py) have been synthesized and characterized, including X-ray studies of complexes with R= 4-OMe and 4-Br; additionally, their physicochemical properties and anticancer activity have been tested. Due to the great water solubility of the HMPT phosphane, all the complexes exhibit an optimal balance of hydrophilicity/lipophilicity. Also, all of these complexes are quite stable in physiological conditions and interact well enough with the transport protein BSA. All complexes exhibit a higher anticancer activity against Caco-2 cells than cisplatin, and some of them do not present cytotoxic activity against enterocyte-like differentiated cells. The selective complexes are proapoptotic drugs by the exposure of phosphatidylserine, results that are also confirmed in primary cultures from mouse colon tumors. Complexes with a halogen unit also arrest the cell cycle in G2/M phase. It is thought that maybe these apoptosis processes are promoted by the observed oxidative damage in the membrane lipids, as a consequence of the inhibition of the thioredoxin reductase enzyme. Based on our results, we conclude that five of our complexes are good candidates to be used in chemotherapy

El proyecto PAP elaborado para la empresa Arrendadora Pro-Parking S. de R.L de C.V. plantea realizar una investigación en mercados internacionales de donde surge el interés por un mercado particular, o mejor dicho un régimen preferencial para la importación de automóviles nuevos a China llamado “Parallel imports” de donde emana el know how el trabajo y a donde se vio dirigido todo el esfuerzo. Para ello, se investigará con especialistas en el rubro, que puedan proporcionar información que no está escrita en la Web, periódico o en libros. Esta afirmación surge de un constante freno en la búsqueda de información sensible del país destino (China). Creemos, con ello, obtener Información pertinente que nos dé la pauta para que ProParking pueda comenzar a exportar vehículos a este mercado, a la vez tratar de eliminar intermediarios y crear un flujo de efectivo más sano y rentable para la empresa y quienes están involucrados.ITESO, A.C
