Near-Field Directionality Beyond the Dipole Approximation: Electric Quadrupole and Higher-Order Multipole Angular Spectra

    Get PDF
Within the context of spin-related optical phenomena, the near-field directionality is generally understood from the quantum spin Hall effect of light, according to which the transverse spin of surface or guided modes is locked to the propagation direction. So far, most previous works have been focused on the spin properties of circularly polarized dipolar sources. However, in near-field optics, higher-order multipole sources (e.g., quadrupole, octupole, and so on) might become relevant, so a more in-depth formulation would be highly valuable. Building on the angular spectrum representation, we provide a general, analytical, and ready-to-use treatment in order to address the near-field directionality of any multipole field, particularizing to the electric quadrupole case. Besides underpinning and upgrading the current framework on spin-dependent directionality, our results may open up new perspectives for engineering light-matter coupling at the nanoscale.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures. El proceso de inserción laboral: Implicaciones educativas para la mejora de la empleabilidad

    Get PDF
This research revises all the explanatory efforts produced around the labour insertion process. First, we have gone through the different theories that analyse job paths and achievements. Later we have emphasized, considering the integral models, the importance of “personal” and educative factors in labour insertion. Finally, we can conclude that this process is influenced by different variables such as educational, psychological, social, contextual, etc. However, we consider the main role of personal values and aspects; consequently, the design, development and planning of those educational actions addressed to improve labour insertion, must consider this group of qualities found in people’s personality.

Replacing pooling functions in Convolutional Neural Networks by linear combinations of increasing functions

    Get PDF
Traditionally, Convolutional Neural Networks make use of the maximum or arithmetic mean in order to reduce the features extracted by convolutional layers in a downsampling process known as pooling. However, there is no strong argument to settle upon one of the two functions and, in practice, this selection turns to be problem dependent. Further, both of these options ignore possible dependencies among the data. We believe that a combination of both of these functions, as well as of additional ones which may retain different information, can benefit the feature extraction process. In this work, we replace traditional pooling by several alternative functions. In particular, we consider linear combinations of order statistics and generalizations of the Sugeno integral, extending the latter’s domain to the whole real line and setting the theoretical base for their application. We present an alternative pooling layer based on this strategy which we name ‘‘CombPool’’ layer. We replace the pooling layers of three different architectures of increasing complexity by CombPool layers, and empirically prove over multiple datasets that linear combinations outperform traditional pooling functions in most cases. Further, combinations with either the Sugeno integral or one of its generalizations usually yield the best results, proving a strong candidate to apply in most architectures.Tracasa Instrumental (iTRACASA), SpainGobierno de Navarra-Departamento de Universidad, Innovacion y Transformacion Digital, SpainSpanish Ministry of Science, Spain PID2019-108392GB-I00Andalusian Excellence project, Spain PID2019-108392GB-I00Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cientifico e Tecnologico (CNPQ) PC095-096Fundacao de Amparo a Ciencia e Tecnologia do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul (FAPERGS) P18-FR-4961 301618/2019-4 19/2551-000 1279-

Longitudinal control for a laboratoty helicopter via constructive approximate backstepping

    Get PDF
16th IFAC World Congress, Praga 2005This article presents a controller design based on Lyapunov functions, which can be applied to a class of underactuated systems that cannot be feedback linearized in a specific set point. Particularly, this design will be applied in order to control the longitudinal dynamics of a laboratory helicopter. The longitudinal system is an electro-mechanical, non-linear and underactuated system. The proposed methodology consists of modifying the model of the system using an overparametrization in such a way that the backstepping theory can be applied to the approximate system. The methodology has been tested by simulated and experimental results and it has been proved for the closed-loop system that the origin is LES

    Multi-homing tunnel broker

A proper support for communications has to provide fault tolerance capabilities such as the preservation of established connections in case of failures. Multihoming addresses this issue, but the currently available solution based in massive BGP route injection presents serious scalability limitations, since it contributes to the exponential growth of the BGP table size. An alternative solution based on the configuration of tunnels between the multihomed site exit routers and the ISP border routers has been proposed for IPv6 in RFC 3178. However, the amount of manual configuration imposed by this solution on the ISP side prevents its wide adoption. In particular, this solution requires at the ISP the manual configuration of a tunnel endpoint per each multihomed client that it serves. We present a multihoming tunnel broker (MHTB) that provides automatic creation of the tunnel endpoint at the ISP side. This work was supported by the SAM (Advanced Servers with Mobility)project, funded by the Spanish National research and Development Programme as TIC2002-04531-C04-03.Publicad

Graduate studies in any area of knowledge presuppose a high level of specialization in research results. This paper is aimed to provide a consistent theoretical framework for the decision making process of a consumer-investor in an environment of risk and uncertainty with constant volatility. In this research, the Wiener and Poisson processes play an essential role in modeling market risk and uncertainty in economic policy. In this context different models of partial equilibrium that characterize consumption and proportions of wealth that a rational consumer allocates to the distinct assets available in the financial markets (domestic and foreign) are systematically examined.Market risk, fiscal policy, stochastic modeling and consumer's inter-temporal decisions

The commoditization of the publication culture in Spain: a cost- and time-effective model to systematize Communication Sciences

    Get PDF
This paper explores the current paradigm of the publication culture in Spain, examining the negative and positive forces that shape the dominant dynamics in the production, dissemination and evaluation of scholars' works. Following the intentional sampling of maximum variety, we planned a set of interviews with scholars in the area of communication that represented the heterogeneity of academic ranks, gender, and territories of Spain. The final output consisted of thirty-five semi-structured interviews that took place between May 2018 and May 2019. Scholarship on how researchers and university professors experience publication cultures is abundant, however the national and international studies that address this phenomenon from a holistic approach are practically non-existent. Comprising three actions or systems -production, dissemination and evaluation-, the current publishing culture is depicted as a structure tuned to a set of global-accepted requirements that seem easy to understand and replicate. Under such model, most of the scholars ex-perience discomfort because overproduction is widespread, social transference is rare, and the production and diffusion of scientific works frequently occur at the expense of scholars themselves. The goal seems to be inspired by the cost- and time-effective system of evaluation processes that, despite academics' general opposition, official bodies and university departments have adopted to circumvent the costly task of assessing scientists' outcomes on an individual basis
