The aim of this article is to examine the patterns of eccentricity shown in the short stories book La noche politeísta (2019), by the Argentinean author Luis Chitarroni. From an interdisciplinary framework, it is focused on both textual analysis, and sociological criticism on “World literature” studies, which approach the concept of “eccentric literature”. The first section of the essay begins by exposing some of literary devices which deconstruct Western literary canons, audience's horizon of expectations, and build an autofictional relationship through characterizations of “failure writers” or fictional cultural agents in these short stories. Then it sets out the relations among these literary techniques and the ways of production, circulation, and reception of independent publishing houses. Finally, the paper argues that Chitarroni's literary agency also plays a role in the circulation and legitimization of other eccentric works

There and back again: Late Mesolithic technological change in the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula

A profound change took place in the lithic technology of the last hunter-gatherer societies in Western Europe and North Africa at the end of the Early Holocene. In a short period, several technological innovations were adopted in geographically, socially and culturally different contexts; a situation that raises many questions about the mechanisms that enabled this successful expansion and acceptance. In this paper, we propose a regional approach to the phenomenon. In the northeast of Iberia, the Ebro valley is one of the areas with the most records from the Late Mesolithic (Geometric Mesolithic or GM) as well as from the immediately previous phase (Notched and Denticulate Mesolithic or NDM). This study explores on exploring the main technological characteristics of both phases, as well as their chronological development, to analyse when and how the change occurred. For this purpose, we have reviewed the lithic industry, the stratigraphic sequences and the chronology of more than fifty archaeological levels. The results obtained highlight the technological distance between the two industrial traditions, where the GM innovations burst into the Ebro valley when the NDM technology was still active. However, we consider that the adoption of the new technology would take place through the socio-territorial structures of the NDM. This hypothesis is based on the recognition of continuity in the territorial occupation, as well as the identification of technological practices typical of the NDM that persist in GM lithic assemblages

Cocirculation and Coinfection Associated to Zika Virus in the Americas

Zika virus, a flavivirus, has arrived to Latin America in 2013. It became evident causing epidemics since 2015, first in Brazil and later in other countries in the region, such as Colombia, with a higher peak in 2016. The World Health Organization (WHO), based on cumulated evidence on its association with Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) and microcephaly and other birth defects (also the congenital Zika syndrome, CZS), declared for a period of almost a year, an international public health emergency. Epidemics in the region caused around 1 million cases with also additional complications beyond GBS and the CZS, which in patients with comorbidities lead to deaths. Among the events studied in the region, a number of cases with arboviral coinfections/codetection (dengue and chikungunya) were described and published beginning in Colombia and later in Brazil. In addition to that, cocirculation and still ongoing research on antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE) are challenges for physicians and public health authorities, given the implications for clinical manifestations and serological diagnosis in patients with previous exposition to other flaviviruses. We reviewed such aspects in this chapter
