Modeling lean six sigma in the small packaging industry in India

    Get PDF
This thesis is a result of my interest in implementing Lean Six Sigma into Indian packaging companies because the Indian industry is growing at 18-20% annually (Samal, 2010). This growth rate is expected to triple in the next five years. With USA outsourcing to foreign nations this substantial growth, as I envision the USA companies who are seeking India packaging materials will benefit from my original approach for converting the Indian packaging industry using Lean Six Sigma. I have a strong personal and professional desire to improve the manufacturing within India. It is the country in which I grew up and where my family currently lives and works. The main objective of this research is to accomplish several major tasks: 1) Introduce a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt DMAIC methodology to an India packaging company and 2) Show how a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt would implement the DMAIC approach in a small Indian packaging company that plans to do business within the USA boundaries and 3) Utilize this packaging company as a model for other India packaging companies to follow if their plans are to sell quality packaging materials to the USA companies

A SOFTWARE TESTING ASSESSMENT TO MANAGE PROJECT TESTABILITY

    Get PDF
The demand for testing services is, to a large extend a ?derived demand? influenced directly by the manner in which prior developed activities are undertaken. The early stages of a structured software development life cycle (SDLC) project can often run behind schedule, shrinking the time available for performing adequate testing especially when software release deadlines have to be met. This situation fosters the need to influence pre-testing activities and manage the testing effort efficiently. Our research examines how to measure testability of a SDLC project before testing begins. It builds on the ?design for testability? perspective by introducing a ?manage for testability? perspective. Software testability focuses on whether the activities of the SDLC process are progressing in ways that enable the testing team to find software product defects if they exist. To address this challenge, we develop a software testing assessment. This assessment is designed to provide testing managers with information needed to: (1) influence pre-testing activities in ways that ultimately increase testing efficiency and effectiveness, and (2) plan testing resources to optimize efficient and effective testing. We developed specific software testing assessment measures through interviews with key informants. We present data collected for the measures for large-scale structured software development projects to illustrate the assessment?s usefulness and application

Cervical ectopic pregnancy presented with massive life threatening haemorrhage: a case report

    Get PDF
Here we report a case of a cervical ectopic pregnancy presented with massive life threatening haemorrhage and its subsequent management. After an unsuccessful attempt to stop the bleeding with balloon catheter and vaginal tamponade, a total abdominal hysterectomy was performed, this is the procedure of choice for treatment of cervical pregnancy under conditions of urgency and life-threatening bleeding

Strong exciton-photon coupling with colloidal nanoplatelets in an open microcavity

Colloidal semiconductor nanoplatelets exhibit quantum size effects due to their thickness of only few monolayers, together with strong optical band-edge transitions facilitated by large lateral extensions. In this article we demonstrate room temperature strong coupling of the light and heavy hole exciton transitions of CdSe nanoplatelets with the photonic modes of an open planar microcavity. Vacuum Rabi splittings of 66±166 \pm 1 meV and 58±158 \pm 1 meV are observed for the heavy and light hole excitons respectively, together with a polariton-mediated hybridisation of both transitions. By measuring the concentration of platelets in the film we compute the transition dipole moment of a nanoplatelet exciton to be μ=(575±110)\mu = (575 \pm 110) D. The large oscillator strength and fluorescence quantum yield of semiconductor nanoplatelets provide a perspective towards novel photonic devices, combining polaritonic and spinoptronic effects.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure

Synthesis of hybrid anticancer agents based on kinase and histone deacetylase inhibitors

Fragments based on the VEGFR2i Semaxanib (SU5416, (vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 inhibitor) and the HDACi (histone deacetylase inhibitor) SAHA (suberanilohydroxamic acid) have been merged to form a range of low molecular weight dual action hybrids. Vindication of this approach is provided by SAR, docking studies, in vitro cancer cell line and biochemical enzyme inhibition data as well as in vivo Xenopus data for the lead molecule (Z)-N1-(3-((1H-pyrrol-2-yl)methylene)-2-oxoindolin-5-yl)- N8-hydroxyoctanediamide 6
