A POSITIVE ROLE FOR GRADUATE AGRIBUSINESS PROGRAMS IN AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS

    Get PDF
Agribusiness graduate students should do problem-solving and take business courses to understand the environment in which they will practice their theory. The longer we wait to teach them application, the greater are the chances of losing our critical mass in terms of relevancy and political support. We can, and should, cultivate a broader range of agribusiness problems and clientele groups. We can effect change immediately by doing more agribusiness research. We can assure our long-run existence through a stronger political support base by educating our graduate students in the ways of firm-level agribusiness application.Agribusiness, Teaching/Communication/Extension/Profession,

Psychological types of female primary school teachers in Anglican state-maintained schools in England and Wales : implications for continuing professional development

    Get PDF
A sample of 221 female primary school teachers in Anglican state-maintained schools in England and Wales completed the Francis Psychological Type Scales (FPTS). The data demonstrated clear preferences for Extraversion (E) over Introversion (I), for Sensing (S) over Intuition (N), for Feeling (F) over Thinking (T) and for Judging (J) over Perceiving (P). The two predominant types among female primary school teachers were ESFJ (27.6%) and ISFJ (18.6%). These findings confirm earlier research among trainee female primary school teachers and help to clarify the main strengths and potential challenges facing primary schools in light of knowledge about the key psychological preferences of those who shape the classroom environment. These findings also generate new insights into teacher retention and career paths in primary schools

Utility operational experience on the NASA/DOE MOD-0A 200-kW wind turbine

    Get PDF
The Mod-0A 200 wind turbine was designed and fabricated as part of the Federal Wind Energy Program. Early wind turbine operation and performance data were obtained while gaining initial experience in the operation of large, horizontal axis wind turbines in typical utility environments. The Mod-0A wind turbine was turned over to the Town of Clayton Light and Water Plant, Clayton, NM, for utility operation and on December 31, 1978, the machine had completed ten months of utility operation. The machine is described and the recent operational experience at Clayton, NMis documented

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MANAGERIAL HEURISTICS AND ECONOMICS IN PRICING RETAIL MEATS

    Get PDF
This study develops a theoretical model of the multiproduct firm which allows for imperfect competition in the output market. Hypotheses are tested for retail meat prices concerning the degree and speed of price transmission, the effects of interfirm competition, and the interrelationship between prices within the store. Empirical results indicated that meat prices within a store were highly interrelated. Further, the firm was found to be very responsive to prices of competitors in the short run, but more responsive to wholesale price changes in the long run.Demand and Price Analysis,

Fiber optic microphone having a pressure sensing reflective membrane and a voltage source for calibration purpose

    Get PDF
A fiber optic microphone is provided for measuring fluctuating pressures. An optical fiber probe having at least one transmitting fiber for transmitting light to a pressure-sensing membrane and at least one receiving fiber for receiving light reflected from a stretched membrane is provided. The pressure-sensing membrane may be stretched for high frequency response. Further, a reflecting surface of the pressure-sensing membrane may have dimensions which substantially correspond to dimensions of a cross section of the optical fiber probe. Further, the fiber optic microphone can be made of materials for use in high temperature environments, for example greater than 1000 F. A fiber optic probe is also provided with a back plate for damping membrane motion. The back plate further provides a means for on-line calibration of the microphone
