The Simplified Models Approach to Constraining Supersymmetry
The current work studies the applicability of Simplified Model Spectra (SMS) framework to Supersymmetric (SUSY) scenarios. The SMS framework is useful as it involves a small number of parameters and presents the experimental results for SUSY searches in a general way. The SMS framework does not depend on a particular theory, therefore it is useful for a generic re-interpretation and test of scenarios. To use the SMS framework to constraint the SUSY parameter space, two automated tools were used: SModelS and Fastlim. The accomplishment of both tools, just as the strengths and limitations are remarked in this work. Finally, it was taken a specific SUSY scenario -Natural SUSY (NSUSY) and analyzed using both SModelS and Fastlim. As a result, it is shown that it is possible to constrain NSUSY scenarios within the SMS framework, but, to reach a more generic interpretation of the parameter space, improvements in both codes are needed.

Changing Minds, Changing Lives: Increasing Resilience in Undergraduate Nursing Students Through the Implementation of a Resilience Educational Intervention Program
Background: Nursing students suffer from high levels of stress and psychological distress, especially those with histories of childhood adversity. The COVID-19 pandemic has been an additional source of stress on students. Students who suffer from psychological distress are at greater risk of engaging in maladaptive behaviors that may lead to physical and psychological conditions. Despite this data, college campuses lack resilience intervention programs, which have been shown to reduce psychological distress, perceived stress, and increase resilience. Purpose: The purpose of this Quality Improvement project was to implement a well-established evidence-based resilience program for nursing students, and to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of the program. Methods: A 10-week in-person resilience program was implemented with 6 undergraduate nursing students. The program included active coping exercises, psychoeducational presentations, writing, and peer support. A post-survey was used to assess the feasibility and acceptability of the program. Results: Six undergraduate nursing students completed the resilience program. After completing the program, one hundred percent of the students thought that their ability to use coping skills, use personal strengths, feel belonged, and supported increased significantly. Participants also described an increased ability to recognize their emotions, and healthily manage stress. One hundred percent indicated that they would recommend this program to incoming nursing students. Conclusion: The results of this QI project support the effectiveness, acceptability, and feasibility of the educational resilience program.

DYNAMIC DISSOLVED ORGANIC MATTER RESPONSE TO INCREASES OF ENERGY AVAILABILITY IN FORESTED HEADWATER STREAMS
Forested headwater streams receive inputs of dissolved organic matter (DOM) that can be transformed by biota as they are transported downstream. Biotic uptake of ambient DOM is difficult to assess through direct experimentation, as the fate of a specific organic compound added to a stream is unlikely to mirror that of the ambient DOM pool. Here we examined the dynamics of DOM by using a hybrid approach that combines uptake metrics of a simple organic compound with a direct assessment of the effects of adding this presumably labile organic carbon source (acetate) on the ambient DOM pool. We proposed that adding acetate could result in three different types of responses in the ambient DOM pool: inert, production and priming. Our results provide evidence that each of these scenarios can occur in small streams, but among all our study sites the overall response of ambient dissolved organic (DOC) to added acetate was production of additional DOC, while the dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) pool was unresponsive to addition of acetate (inert response)
USE OF MILLIPEDES AS FOOD AND FOR SELF-ANOINTING BY THE PUERTO RICAN GRACKLE (QUISCALUS NIGER BRACHYPTERUS)
Abstract · Although rarely observed in nature, anting is widespread and has been reported in more than 200 species of birds. The concept was used to describe birds allowing ants to climb on their body or the behavior of capturing and rubbing the ants against the plumage. However, the nomenclature of this behavior has been broadened and now is called self-anointing, and includes the use of other animals, such as millipedes (Diplopoda), and even liquids. Here, I describe the Antillean Grackle (Quiscalus niger brachypterus) using millipedes (Trigoniulus coralinus and Anadenobolus monilicornis) for self-anointing and as food. The genus Anadenobolus is reported for self-anointing for the first time. I also observed five grackles, feeding upon the millipede Asiomorpha coarctata, after washing it in water. Possibly, grackles rub the millipedes on their plumage because their secretions may work as ectoparasite repellent or may decrease irritation during molting. The birds ingest these myriapods when food is scarce or because these may help against intestinal parasites.
