It is undeniable that poets often convey ideas with signs in the form of words, clauses, even sentences, thereby creating implicit or implicit messages. Studying a poem requires structural and semiotic analysis, because poetry is a structure of meaningful signs. Joko Pinurbo's poems contain many messages from deep anxiety. This study seeks to explain the meaning of related poetry according to Riffaterre's Semiotics theory. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The material object in this research is a poem by Joko Pinurbo "Baju Baru". Meanwhile, the formal object is meaning based on language and literary conventions with Riffaterre's Semiotics theory which consists of heuristic readings, hermeneutic readings, as well as matrices, models and variants, hypograms.  The results of the research through heuristic reading analysis found that fathers bought new clothes after payday because fathers' salaries increased. From the hermeneutic reading as a whole, the poem was created by the author as a form of outpouring of his heart as well as a form of criticism of the government for the phenomenon he is seeing, the increase in basic prices that afflict the lower class society, the matrix of the poem is a situation where basic needs soar, while workers' wages only increased slightly or even did not increase. The model of the poem is "gaji bapak" and "presiden". The variants consist of five variants. The first variant is "bapak gajian", the second variant is "reaksi si aku", the third variant is "perasaan presiden", the fourth variant is "kerusakan baju", the fifth variant is "keberadaan tukang becak dan presiden"

This research seeks to dismantle the philosophical meaning of "celana" from various points of view in the collection of poetry Selamat Menunaikan Ibadah Puisi by Joko Pinurbo. As for the poems that were carefully selected, only three poems contained the diction "celana", namely “celana, 1”, “celana, 2”, and “celana, 3”. The approach used was Paul Ricoeur's Hermeneutic Approach. This approach is used to obtain various philosophical meanings of "celana" in more depth. The chosen method is a qualitative-descriptive method with repeated reading techniques. Then the findings of this research is the philosophical meaning of "celana" which includes three meanings. First "celana" in the real context, "celana" as achievements in the context of education, "celana" as provisions in the context of religiosity

Improving catheter-associated urinary tract infections in the intensive care unit: implementation of a rounding tool to enhance communication and collaboration.

Background/Significance: Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are avoidable and costly healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and are associated with high morbidity and mortality. A rise in CAUTIs at the project site, and the need for a standardized CAUTI prevention communication process, prompted this quality improvement project. Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to decrease CAUTIs through improved communication and collaboration amongst the critical care team. Methods: Twelve nurses completed the Collaboration and Satisfaction about Care Decisions (CSACD) questionnaire pre- and post- intervention which, evaluated communication and collaboration. Nurses also assessed IUC indication and removal during interdisciplinary rounds. Intervention: This project incorporated a rounding tool that addressed IUC maintenance, during interdisciplinary rounding, to improve interdisciplinary communication and collaboration and facilitate early IUC removal, among intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Results: Fifty percent of participants demonstrated an improvement in CSACD scores from pre- to post-intervention; however, this improvement was not statistically significant (p = 0.118). CAUTI rates remained unchanged; IUC utilization rates increased. Discussion: Although communication and collaboration scores did not demonstrate a statistically significant improvement, the results demonstrate clinical significance. With rounding tool implementation, nurses were able to identify patients without proper indication for IUCs and discuss removal with the care team

IDENTITAS TOKOH PRIBUMI DALAM CERPEN PENUNJUK JALAN KARYA IKSAKA BANU: KAJIAN PASCAKOLONIAL HOMI K. BHABHA

This study aims to uncover an Indigenous character named Oentoeng in the short story “Penunjuk Jalan”. The short story is one of Iksaka Banu's works contained in the book Semua untuk Hindia. The identity of the character that is trying to be dismantled includes hybridity, mimicry, and ambivalence. The theory used in this study is the postcolonial theory initiated by Homi K. Bhabha. The study used a qualitative descriptive method. There are three findings in this study. First, the identity of Oentoeng is a hybrid. Oentoeng absorbs Western values continuously, namely from his upbringing, education, and his association in the Dutch family environment. Second, mimicry as mockery by the character can be seen from three aspects, specifically the ability to speak Dutch, possess Western medical knowledge, and to be able to devise a strategy of rebellion that made the VOC troubles as invaders. Third, Oentoeng's attitude of wanting to be angry and willing to provide assistance, treatment, and entertainment to the Dutch doctor and his porter who had an accident could be interpreted as a form of ambivalence in the Indigenous character

Linking use cases and associated requirements: On the impact of linking variants on reading behavior

    Get PDF
A wide variety of use case templates supports different linking variants. The main purpose of all linking options is to highlight the interrelationships between a use case and its associated requirements. Regardless of the linking, a reader needs to consider all materials together in order to achieve a high understanding of the overall content. Due to the efforts of creating and maintaining links, we investigated their impact on the reading behavior in terms of visual effort and intended way of interrelating both artifacts in an eye tracking study. Our findings show that all investigated linking variants cause comparable visual effort and share the most frequent reading pattern. In all cases, the use case and the requirements are read separated and successively. Nevertheless, we found significant differences in the reading behaviors between the linking variants. Only the most detailed linking variant significantly increases the number of attention switches between both artifacts which represents the required reading behavior of interrelating both artifacts. This summary refers to the paper "Interrelating Use Cases and Associated Requirements by Links - An Eye Tracking Study on the Impact of Different Linking Variants on the Reading Behavior" [KRS18] which was published as original research article in the proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Evaluation and Assessment in Software Engineering. © 2019 Gesellschaft fur Informatik (GI). Pharmaceuticals and personal care products are increasingly recognized as important environmental pollutants and have recently gained the attention of both the scientific community and the public. A base-line study was conducted in the Lower Hudson River of New York State employing both analytical chemistry and endocrine bioreporters to monitor both traditional and emerging pollutants. 25 chemicals were detected via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry but only caffeine (average 186 ng/L) and the polycyclic musk 1,3,4,6,7,8-hexahydro-4,6,6,7,8,8hexamethylcyclopenta-[gamma]-2-benzopyran (average 80 ng/L) were found at quantifiable levels. Using in vitro Chemical Activated LUciferase eXpression (CALUX) bioreporters capable of measuring endocrine activity, we detected estrogenic (94-701 pg 17b-estradiol Eq/L) activity in all six samples, both androgenic (1.15 ng DHT Eq/L) and progestrogenic (1.6-4.08 ng/Org2058 Eq/L) activity in one and two samples respectively, but no glucocorticoid activity in any samples. The potential environmental fates and biological impacts of both these chemicals and activities are discussed. Since one must look beyond detection of the parent compound in order to understand the fate of pollutants, this dissertation also reports on the ability of Sphingomonas sp. strain Ibu2 to metabolize analogs of ibuprofen, a pharmaceutical that has been commonly detected in wastewater and aquatic environments around the world. While para-substituted iii aromatic compounds are typically reported to be more challenging to degrade, strain Ibu2 can grow on some para-substituted arylacetic acids but not on non-substituted ones. Catabolic rates for the degradation of both growth and non-growth substrates in the upper pathway and for meta cleavage (MC) in the lower pathway were measured. Non-growth substrates, 4-tolylacetic acid (4TAA), 2-propionic acid and phenylacetic acid, were found to cause the inhibition of MC activity as well as cell death. Spontaneous mutants with the ability to grow on 4TAA were characterized. The mechanisms behind MC activity inhibition and toxicity were examined and CoA-thioester intermediates were identified as toxic metabolites during aromatic acid metabolism. i

    Handshaking Promotes Cooperative Dealmaking

Humans use subtle sources of information—like nonverbal behavior—to determine whether to act cooperatively or antagonistically when they negotiate. Handshakes are particularly consequential nonverbal gestures in negotiations because people feel comfortable initiating negotiations with them and believe they signal cooperation (Study 1). We show that handshakes increase cooperative behaviors, affecting outcomes for integrative and distributive negotiations. In two studies with MBA students, pairs who shook hands before integrative negotiations obtained higher joint outcomes (Studies 2a and 2b). Pairs randomly assigned to shake hands were more likely to openly reveal their preferences on trade-off issues, which improved joint outcomes (Study 3). In a fourth study using a distributive negotiation, pairs of executives assigned to shake hands were less likely to lie about their preferences and crafted agreements that split the bargaining zone more equally. Together, these studies show that handshaking promotes the adoption of cooperative strategies and influences negotiation outcomes
