Europeanisation of Norwegian security and defence policy. Nordic cooperation as vehicle
With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, European security has been placed on high alert, highlighting the importance of both the EU and NATO as key, although different, regional security actors. As the election of a more isolationist president in the US again in 2024 or 2028 cannot be excluded, boosting European security and defence should be a key objective for both Norway and its European allies. Such a Europeanisation should be seen as an add-on to Norway’s NATO membership but should imply a more serious investment in various initiatives taken by the EU and key EU-member states (France and Germany), in addition to those taken by the UK. Strengthening Nordic security and defence cooperation should also be seen as a vehicle for a much-needed Europeanisation of Norwegian security and defence policy. With Sweden and Finland now entering NATO and Denmark returning to the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), the potential for Nordic security cooperation as a means to this end has never been greaterpublishedVersio
An Evaluation of How Organizational Culture Can Perpetuate a Formal Mentoring Relationship
The purpose of this research was to investigate how an organization\u27s culture can have an effect on formal mentoring. Specifically, this thesis sought to determine if perceptions among gender, ethnicity, and organizational position differ for mentoring and organizational culture. Additionally, this thesis sought to determine if any correlations may exist between organizational culture and formal mentoring overall
Dimerization specificities of leucine zipper mutants
Due to the character of the original source materials and the nature of batch digitization, quality control issues may be present in this document. Please report any quality issues you encounter to [email protected], referencing the URI of the item.Includes bibliographical references: leaves 24-25.The dimerization specificity of a leucine zipper is partially determined by the interactions of charged amino acids on the surfaces of dimer interfaces (e and g positions). A series of e and g position GCN4 mutants has been described that do not dimerize with the wild-type GCN4 but are able to dimerize with each other. Two hydrophobic leucine residues present in the wild-type GCN4 leucine zipper are suspected to be causing this difference in dimerization specificity. To determine the importance of these leucine residues in dimerization specificity, I constructed a series of mutants in which the leucine residues were substituted with alanine. The dimerization specificity of these mutants was determined based on the phenotypes of cells expressing wild type and dominant negative 8 repressor-leucine zipper fusion proteins. Cells that were immune to infection by phage 8 contain homodimeric fusion proteins. Cells that were sensitive to infection by phage 8 are forming heterodimeric fusion proteins. The two-leucine residues in the wild-type GCN4 leucine zipper are not sufficient to explain the difference in dimerization specificity
Polyvinyl alcohol cross-linked with two aldehydes
A film forming polyvinyl alcohol resin is admixed, in aqueous solution, with a dialdehyde crosslinking agent which is capable of crosslinking the polyvinyl alcohol resin and a water soluble acid aldehyde containing a reactive aldehyde group capable of reacting with hydroxyl groups in the polyvinyl alcohol resin and an ionizable acid hydrogen atom. The dialdehyde is present in an amount sufficient to react with from 1 to 20% by weight of the theoretical amount required to react with all of the hydroxyl groups of the polyvinyl alcohol. The amount of acid aldehyde is from 1 to 50% by weight, same basis, and is sufficient to reduce the pH of the aqueous admixture to 5 or less. The admixture is then formed into a desired physical shape, such as by casting a sheet or film, and the shaped material is then heated to simultaneously dry and crosslink the article
Doing foster family with young refugees: Negotiations of belonging and being at home
Unaccompanied minor refugees are regularly placed with foster families, and this residential context is sometimes assessed as especially appropriate to the needs of these young persons. The transition into a foster family is often accompanied by various changes as well as questions concerning feelings of belonging. These questions are the focus of this study, which considers the perspectives of young refugees and their foster parents. The analysis shows that 'belonging' and 'being at home' are thought of as dimensions of 'doing family' that change situationally and are negotiated with others
