We compute three- and four-point correlation functions containing excited bosonic twist fields. Our results can be used to determine properties, such as lifetimes and production rates, of massive string excitations localised at D-brane intersections, which could be signatures of a low string scale even if the usual string resonances are inaccessible to the LHC.Comment: 42 pages, no figure

The Basics of Biogerontology

Aging is an enormously complicated process. Despite a great many of theories (among them “Program Theories”, “Combined Theories”, “Damage Theories”, “Inflamm-Aging”, “Garb-Aging” and the “Rising Deleteriome”), so far there is none which is able to explain this phenomenon satisfactorily and completely. A different approach to address the complexity of aging is to characterize the major “Hallmarks of Aging”. These are genomic instability, telomere attrition, epigenetic alterations, loss of proteostasis, deregulated nutrient sensing, mitochondrial dysfunction, cellular senescence, stem cell exhaustion and an altered intercellular communication. From research on these hallmarks, new avenues were opened on how to interfere with the aging process. Some of these possible therapeutic interventions are described here too

USING RANKS TO PERFORM EXACT AND ESTIMATED EXACT TESTS IN DESIGNED EXPERIMENTS

A procedure is studied that uses rank transformed data to perform exact and estimated exact tests which is an alternative to the commonly used F-ratio test procedure. First, a common parametric test statistic is computed using rank transformed data, where two methods of ranking - ranks taken of the original observations, and ranks taken after aligning the observations - are studied. Significance is then determined using either the exact permutation distribution of the statistic or an estimate of this distribution based on a random sample of all possible permutations. Simulation studies compare the performance of this method to both the normal theory parametric F-test and the traditional rank transform procedure. Power and nominal type-I error rates are compared under conditions when normal theory assumptions are satisfied as well as when these assumptions are violated. The method is studied for a two factor factorial arrangement of treatments in a completely randomized design and also for a split-unit experiment
