    Il testo (non) è mobile

The framework for this contribution is the transformation of the textual community, namely, modern society, into a digital community, in other words, a network society. This paper analyzes two theses. The first holds that the text, due to its genetic and historic nature, is always IMMUTABLE, STABLE, and never mobile. For this reason, the text represents the foundational element of a specific society, modern society. The second thesis is based on the assertion that within information and hypertext technologies two diverse views confront and contrast each other. I locate these tendencies in the following key words: “dream” (Nelson) and “intellect” (Engelbart). Hypertext technology and culture represent the most transformative location and agency, they are the actors of the paradigm shift in which we are implicated. The hypertext revolution is based on the criticism of and attack against the material supports of writing and reading, as well as typographic technologies. Hypertext fights and wins this battle. However, hypertext technology is not able to reach the deep structure of alphabetic culture that is made not only of material support but also mental and bodily experience, consolidated and evolving, and of social relationships that are implied in the materiality of the support.

A 59 years old female with a prior history of facial hemangioma, with a three-month progressive cognitive impairment (MoCA score 15/30) combined with abulia, unmotivated crying,  non-fluent language, limb paratonia, bilateral Hoffman and palmomental reflex; and apraxic gait. &nbsp

Light masses in short distance penguin loops

    Get PDF
Penguin diagrams for decays such as b(s,d)γb\to (s,d)\gamma involve virtual loops of uu or other light quarks. Logarithms of the virtual quark mass could, in principle, influence the phenomenological analysis of the decay. It is thus important to study these logarithms to all orders in QCD perturbation theory. In this paper we show that, at arbitrary order, the matrix elements of operators in the effective hamiltonian contributing to bsγb\to s\gamma are finite for the limit of mu0m_u \to 0 in penguin loops.Comment: 11 pages, 6 ps figures. Trend of hospital utilization for encephalitis.

    Get PDF
SUMMARYEncephalitis generally results in a serious illness requiring hospitalization. The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiology of hospitalization for encephalitis in Italy, taking into account the geographical distribution, aetiology, seasonality and evolution of hospitalization rates over recent years. The mean hospitalization rate was 5·88/100 000. For most of these hospitalizations (n=13 119, 55·6%), no specific cause of encephalitis was reported. The most common aetiological category was 'viral', which accounted for 40·1% (n=4205) of such hospitalizations (rate 1·05/100 000). Within this category, herpes virus was the leading causative agent (n=1579, 0·39/100 000). This report highlights a significant increase of 'viral encephalitis not otherwise specified' (ICD-9 code 049·9)vs. a reduction of all other causes. A seasonal pattern was noted in people aged ⩾65 years in this group. Specific surveillance of encephalitis without known origin should be reinforced in order to identify the potential role of emerging pathogens and to design preventive interventions

Smart energy systems for renewable energy communities. A comparative analysis of power-to-X strategies for improving energy self-consumption

    Get PDF
Renewable energy communities (RECs) represent the new scheme for promoting the distributed renewable generation, which must be managed to maximise the local energy self-consumption. The aim of this paper is to assess and discuss strengths and weaknesses of small-scale sector coupling strategies in residential RECs by means of a comparative analysis of their applications. Different power-to-X strategies have been applied to twenty-seven REC configurations. The systems have been separately simulated by means of the EnergyPLAN software. Power to-heat strategy turns out to be the most cost-effective solution to integrate the RES excess, however, its potential often is not enough to fully accommodate it. Power-to-vehicle has low infrastructure costs, but its limit depends on the electric vehicle penetration and citizens' participation. Exploiting the electric vehicle batteries is always more cost-effective than installing stationary batteries. The competitiveness of power-to-power is extremely linked to the REC electrification level. Power-to-gas is promising in high-RES excess conditions, but rarely represents the best solution due to current high electrolyser costs. The implementation of energy storage systems is crucial for improving the local self-consumption and the cross-sector integration is a better solution in energy, economic and environmental terms than focusing only on the electricity sector

Diagnostic Applications of Intraoral Scanners: A Systematic Review

In addition to their recognized value for obtaining 3D digital dental models, intraoral scanners (IOSs) have recently been proven to be promising tools for oral health diagnostics. In this work, the most recent literature on IOSs was reviewed with a focus on their applications as detection systems of oral cavity pathologies. Those applications of IOSs falling in the general area of detection systems for oral health diagnostics (e.g., caries, dental wear, periodontal diseases, oral cancer) were included, while excluding those works mainly focused on 3D dental model reconstruction for implan tology, orthodontics, or prosthodontics. Three major scientific databases, namely Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science, were searched and explored by three independent reviewers. The synthesis and analysis of the studies was carried out by considering the type and technical features of the IOS, the study objectives, and the specific diagnostic applications. From the synthesis of the twenty-five included studies, the main diagnostic fields where IOS technology applies were highlighted, ranging from the detection of tooth wear and caries to the diagnosis of plaques, periodontal defects, and other complications. This shows how additional diagnostic information can be obtained by combining the IOS technology with other radiographic techniques. Despite some promising results, the clinical evidence regarding the use of IOSs as oral health probes is still limited, and further efforts are needed to validate the diagnostic potential of IOSs over conventional tool

Linear discriminant analysis and principal component analysis to predict coronary artery disease

    Get PDF
Coronary artery disease is one of the most prevalent chronic pathologies in the modern world, leading to the deaths of thousands of people, both in the United States and in Europe. This article reports the use of data mining techniques to analyse a population of 10,265 people who were evaluated by the Department of Advanced Biomedical Sciences for myocardial ischaemia. Overall, 22 features are extracted, and linear discriminant analysis is implemented twice through both the Knime analytics platform and R statistical programming language to classify patients as either normal or pathological. The former of these analyses includes only classification, while the latter method includes principal component analysis before classification to create new features. The classification accuracies obtained for these methods were 84.5 and 86.0 per cent, respectively, with a specificity over 97 per cent and a sensitivity between 62 and 66 per cent. This article presents a practical implementation of traditional data mining techniques that can be used to help clinicians in decision-making; moreover, principal component analysis is used as an algorithm for feature reduction
