Less is more in incident categorization

The IT incident management process requires a correct categorization to attribute incident tickets to the right resolution group and obtain as quickly as possible an operational system, impacting the minimum as possible the business and costumers. In this work, we introduce automatic text classification, demonstrating the application of several natural language processing techniques and analyzing the impact of each one on a real incident tickets dataset. The techniques that we explore in the pre-processing of the text that describes an incident are the following: tokenization, stemming, eliminating stop-words, named-entity recognition, and TFxIDF-based document representation. Finally, to build the model and observe the results after applying the previous techniques, we use two machine learning algorithms: Support Vector Machine (SVM) and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN). Two important findings result from this study: a shorter description of an incident is better than a full description of an incident; and, pre-processing has little impact on incident categorization, mainly due the specific vocabulary used in this type of text.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Symbolic Sequences and Tsallis Entropy

We address this work to investigate symbolic sequences with long-range correlations by using computational simulation. We analyze sequences with two, three and four symbols that could be repeated ll times, with the probability distribution p(l)1/lμp(l)\propto 1/ l^{\mu}. For these sequences, we verified that the usual entropy increases more slowly when the symbols are correlated and the Tsallis entropy exhibits, for a suitable choice of qq, a linear behavior. We also study the chain as a random walk-like process and observe a nonusual diffusive behavior depending on the values of the parameter μ\mu.Comment: Published in the Brazilian Journal of Physic

“How Was the Match?”: Semantic similarity between electronic media commentary and work domain analysis key phrases

Football player’s performance can be measured in an objective way (e. g. Goals scored, assists, interceptions), this being seldom a method to compare and rank the best players by categories. Over years of study, many other factors that can influence the players performance were discovered and studied, considering not only objective factors, but also subjective factors. Match commentary from different sources (e.g., social and formal media) also plays an important role on a more subjective performance assessment. By using semantic similarity analysis, this study aims to contribute to the understanding of the concepts that are used in this commentaries, notably to each extend key phrases associated to match processes are used in commentaries published in social and formal media.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Thrombus aspiration in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction: results of a national registry of interventional cardiology.

BACKGROUND: We aimed to evaluate the impact of thrombus aspiration (TA) during primary percutaneous coronary intervention (P-PCI) in 'real-world' settings. METHODS: We performed a retrospective study, using data from the National Registry of Interventional Cardiology (RNCI 2006-2012, Portugal) with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients treated with P-PCI. The primary outcome, in-hospital mortality, was analysed through adjusted odds ratio (aOR) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI). RESULTS: We assessed data for 9458 STEMI patients that undergone P-PCI (35% treated with TA). The risk of in-hospital mortality with TA (aOR 0.93, 95%CI:0.54-1.60) was not significantly decreased. After matching patients through the propensity score, TA reduced significantly the risk of in-hospital mortality (OR 0.58, 95%CI:0.35-0.98; 3500 patients). CONCLUSIONS: The whole cohort data does not support the routine use of TA in P-PCI, but the results of the propensity-score matched cohort suggests that the use of selective TA may improve the short-term risks of STEMI.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This work was supported by National Funds from the FCT, Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, through the projects UID/Multi/50016/2019, UID/Multi/04044/2019, and POCI-01-0145-FEDER-31146, a post-doctoral fellowship to SB-S (SFRH/BPD/116024/2016), the European Union through PT2020 and Centro2020 (CENTRO-01-0145-FEDER-000014 and POCI-01-0247-FEDER-024533), the Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER) through the project NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000012 (Biotherapies – Structured Programme on Bioengineering Therapies for Infectious Diseases and Tissue Regeneration) funded by the NORTE2020 program, and the Interreg V-A POCTEP Program through FEDER funds from the European Union (0245_IBEROS_1_E).In situ tissue regeneration can be defined as the implantation of tissue-specific biomaterials (by itself or in combination with cells and/or biomolecules) at the tissue defect, taking advantage of the surrounding microenvironment as a natural bioreactor. Up to now, the structures used were based on particles or gels. However, with the technological progress, the materials’ manipulation and processing has become possible, mimicking the damaged tissue directly at the defect site. This paper presents a comprehensive review of current and advanced in situ strategies for tissue regeneration. Recent advances to put in practice the in situ regeneration concept have been mainly focused on bioinks and bioprinting techniques rather than the combination of different technologies to make the real in situ regeneration. The limitation of conventional approaches (e.g., stem cell recruitment) and their poor ability to mimic native tissue are discussed. Moreover, the way of advanced strategies such as 3D/4D bioprinting and hybrid approaches may contribute to overcome the limitations of conventional strategies are highlighted. Finally, the future trends and main research challenges of in situ enabling approaches are discussed considering in vitro and in vivo evidence.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Exploring bioactive compounds present in international patents targeting brain functions

The interest in nervous system disorders is an evident fact with more than 60 000 articles published on PUBMED only in the year of 2016. Actually, in our daily life we are constantly exposed to different environmental factors known to be prejudicial to the health of our nervous system. In this context, a holistic view of food consumption is gaining increasing importance with the perspective of using functional components of specific foods to improve our health or diminish the risk of disease. The aim of our work is to evaluate the use of nutritional food components of traditional Portuguese diet in international patents of dietary supplements or the so called functional foods described to improve brain functions. The WIPO platform was used to collect data of these patents, and from the last 3 years we identified 35 patents using more than 150 different components. We selected the most frequent components and the indications described in the patents, and then examined the possible bioactive compounds for each component. The prevalent functional components described were walnuts, peanuts, wolfberries, mulberries, dates, jujube, creatine, carnitine, ginseng and soybean. Other components rich in omega-3, such as docosahexaenoic acid and superba oil, were also identified. These patents were described to target brain functions such as intelligence, memory, concentration and in some cases compounds are indicated to traumatic brain injury. Regarding local sources, we found several nutritional components of traditional Portuguese diet that have similar compounds of those found in the international components described in patents. We believe this information will help in the valorisation of national products.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
