    Electrorotation of semiconducting microspheres

    Get PDF
We study experimentally the electrorotation (ROT) of semiconducting microspheres. ZnO microspheres obtained by a hydrothermal synthesis method are dispersed in KCl aqueous solutions and subjected to rotating electric fields. Two ROT peaks are found in experiments: a counterfield peak and a cofield peak at somewhat higher frequencies. These observations are in accordance with recent theoretical predictions for semiconducting spheres. The counterfield rotation is originated by the charging of the electrical double layer at the particle-electrolyte interface, while the cofield rotation is due to the Maxwell-Wagner relaxation. Additionally, we also found that some microspheres in the sample behaved differently and only showed counterfield rotation. We show that the behavior of these particles can be described by the so-called shell model. The microstructure of the microspheres is analyzed with electron microscope techniques and related to the ROT measurements.Spanish Government Ministry MICINN under Contract No. PGC2018-099217-B-I00Junta de Andalucía Contract No. PEJUS-

Acorns for fattening free-range pigs (OK-Net Ecofeed Practice Abstract)

    - The fattening performance is very much influenced by the age of pigs and their compensatory growth; hence, pigs should be as old as possible (≥1 year) and adapted to grazing. - Grass is necessary as a source of protein to compensate for the low protein levels in acorns. - The food conversion rate is 10.5 kg of whole acorns of Q. i. rotundifolia to gain 1 kg, besides the contribution of grass; to establish the stocking rate, consider that an adult evergreen oak produces ≈11 kg of acorns/year). - Iberian pigs peel acorns to avoid the high content of tannins in the shell. However, during peeling, approxi-mately 20% of the kernel can be wasted

    Get PDF

A Generalized Lagrange Multiplier Method Support for Vector Regression Based

    Get PDF
This research presents an approach to support vector regression based on the epsilon L1 and L2 formulations. In contrast to standard architectures, it explores a new formulation where the dual optimization problem results from formulating an extended Lagrangian function, introducing additional terms to include a weighted elastic net regularization structure. Additionally, the research shows the differences and similarities of this proposal with the classical support vector regression and the LASSO regression, aiming to compare them with standard models. To demonstrate the capabilities of this approach, the document includes examples of predicting some benchmark functions
