On the new approach to variable separation in the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation with two space dimensions

We suggest an effective approach to separation of variables in the Schr\"odinger equation with two space variables. Using it we classify inequivalent potentials V(x1,x2)V(x_1,x_2) such that the corresponding Schr\" odinger equations admit separation of variables. Besides that, we carry out separation of variables in the Schr\" odinger equation with the anisotropic harmonic oscillator potential V=k1x12+k2x22V=k_1x_1^2+k_2x_2^2 and obtain a complete list of coordinate systems providing its separability. Most of these coordinate systems depend essentially on the form of the potential and do not provide separation of variables in the free Schr\" odinger equation (V=0V=0).Comment: 21 pages, latex, to appear in the "Journal of Mathematical Physics" (1995

The creative way of the honored science worker of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor A.N. Smagunova (13.08.1934 – 05.03.2018) is traced. The main directions of her research were the development of X-ray fluorescence techniques of various materials, the study of the influence of particle size of powder samples on the intensity of X-ray fluorescence, the study of possibilities and the selection of optimal conditions for using the separate X-ray fluorescence methods, the planning of experiments in the methodical studies of analytical chemistry, and the development and introduction of X-ray methods for industrial laboratories. Her contribution to the development of the X-ray fluorescent method of analysis was discussed (a vivid physical interpretation of the particle size effect on the XRF results was given, the X-ray background components of homogeneous and heterogeneous samples in XRF were studied, the possibilities and limits of using classical X-ray fluorescence methods were studied theoretically and experimentally, methods for analyzing biological, medical and environmental materials have been developed). The detailed study of the process of dry and wet grinding of multicomponent materials in various mechanical devices has led her to the practically important conclusion that wet grinding of powder samples, which excludes the effect of enveloping, was more promising. Her significant contribution to the preparation and publication of the reviews both on the general state of the XRF and on the specific areas of its application is noted. The role of A.N. Smagunova in the training of scientific personnel and her work as a teacher at the Irkutsk State University, supervising graduate and postgraduate students were examined. Her contribution to the development of algorithms for determining the metrological characteristics of quantitative chemical analysis is distinguished. Keywords: X-ray fluorescence analysis, influence of particle size, development of XRF procedures, metrological characteristics(Russian)1A.G.

Prognostic Value of Cognitive Tests and Their Combination in Patients with Chronic Heart Failure and Reduced Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction

Impaired cognitive function (CF) is common among patients with CHF and is an additional factor impairing the quality of life, adherence to treatment, and hence the clinical prognosis in this category of patients. The aim of this work was to study the prognostic significance of individual cognitive tests, as well as their combination in patients with CHF with a reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LV EF).Materials and methods. The study was conducted in the Department of Heart Failure of National Scientific Center "M.D. Strazhesko Institute of Cardiology" National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, in the period from 01/01/2016 to 04/27/2018. A total of 124 patients with CHF between the ages of 18 and 75 years, II-IV functional classes by NYHA were examined. The cognitive function was assessed using the Schulte test, Mini-Mental State Examination scale (MMSE); HADS scale. Cognitive dysfunction (CD) was considered as MMSE ≤26 points. To construct the survival curves and the onset of the combined critical event (death or hospitalization), the Kaplan – Meier method was used, the significance of the differences between the curves was determined using the log-rank criterion. Differences were considered statistically significant at p <0.05.Results. The MMSE scale was highly informative regarding the prediction of survival and the onset of a combined critical event (death or hospitalization) in patients with CHF and reduced LVEF even after correction of the compared groups by age and functional class according to NYHA (p=0.025 and p=0.049, respectively). Using the same sample, Schulte showed low prognostic significance regarding survival and reliable informativeness regarding the onset of the combined critical event, which, however, was leveled after correcting the compared samples by age and functional class NYHA (p=0.798 and p=0.240, respectively). The inclusion in the prognostic algorithm of estimating the sum of points on the HADS depression scale allowed increasing the degree of reliability of differences between the compared groups of patients with CD and without CD in terms of both long-term survival and the onset of a combined critical event (death or hospitalization) (p=0.006 and p=0.001 respectively).Conclusions. The MMSE scale is informative regarding the prediction of survival and the onset of a combined critical event in patients with CHF and reduced LVEF. Schulte's test does not have the prognostic information indicated above, however, the inclusion in the algorithm of the sum of points on the HADS depression scale allows to increase the degree of statistical confidence in the compared groups
