Recognition of Handwritten Character by Fuzzy Neighbor Mesh Feature

    Get PDF
The fuzzy mesh feature (FM-feature) which is proposed in our previous work has been proved that it can absorb some handwriting variation. But the recognition rate got there is still not sufficient, one reason of which may be that this feature includes limited structural information about the character. In this work, we consider a modified fuzzy feature of mesh pattern (FNM-feature) by utilizing the neighbor meshes. And by the experiment about that, we have got the result that FNM-feature improves the recognition rate about 6.6% compared with FM-feature, which shows that FNM-feature with information of neighbor meshes is more effective for recognition

Introduction Suicide attempt is the most important risk factor for later suicide. A randomised-controlled, multicentre trial of postsuicide attempt case management for the prevention of further suicide attempts in Japan, named ACTION-J, has established effective interventions for prevention of suicide reattempts. The ACTION-J assertive case management intervention programme was adopted by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in 2016, when medical fees were revised. This nationwide programme is provided to patients who attempt suicide and who are admitted to emergency departments in Japan. The aim of the present study is to examine the current implementation status of the ACTION-J programme. The present study also aims to clarify which patients’ and hospitals’ factors affect the implementation of the programme. Methods and analysis This is a prospective, multicentre, patient registry cohort study. Participants will be suicide attempters admitted to the emergency departments of medical facilities with both psychiatry and emergency departments. The assertive case management programme will be delivered to participants by a case manager for up to 24 weeks, based on psychiatric diagnoses, social risks and patient needs. The core feature of the programme is to encourage patients to participate in psychiatric treatment. The primary outcome will be the proportion of patients still participating in the case management intervention at 24 weeks after registration. The secondary outcomes will include measures of the fidelity of the case management intervention. The fidelity will be evaluated using a fidelity assessment manual developed by the study group.Ethics and dissemination This observational study has been approved by the ethics board of Sapporo Medical University. Enrolment began in October 2016 and will continue until December 2018. Dissemination plans include presentations at scientific conferences and scientific publications

A Multicenter, Open-label, Clinical Trial to Assess the Effectiveness and Safety of Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Using Reduced-intensity Conditioning in Relapsed/refractory Anaplastic Large-cell Lymphoma in Children

No standard treatment for relapsed or refractory anaplastic large-cell lymphoma (ALCL) has been established. This study is a multicenter, open-label trial to examine the effectiveness and safety of transplantation with reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC) for patients under 20 years old with relapsed or refractory ALCL. We defined RIC as the administration of fludarabine (30 mg/m2/day) for five days plus melphalan (70 mg/m2/day) for two days and total body irradiation at 4 Gy, followed by allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

Handwritten HIRAGANA characters are classified according to whether they have DAKUTEN (or HAN-DAKUTEN) or not by the 3-layer neural networks. The input data to the networks is 25-dimensional local mesh-feature extracted from an original character pattern. The numbers of units of three layers are 25 (input-layer), 25 (hidden-layer) and 2 (output-layer). The numbers of training and unknown samples used in a classification experiment are 6900 and 5000,respectively. The average classification rate of 94(%) for the unknown samples is obtained

A picture processing system of command type is described which is intended to process photographic pictures out 35 mm films. Main instruments are a M-70 mini-computer with 16 kw, a handmade flying spot scanner of transparency type and a CRT monitor. Thirteen commands are provided as the processing routines which are inputted through STW key-board. A set of the command system and the monitor permits a kind of man-machine dialogue.Experimental results are also shown which are almost satisfactory for current use

Linguistic headges are very important to construct the sets of natural language expression which are the linguistic variable\u27s values. We construct Japanese linguistic headges and evaluate those headges. They are incorporated into the air conditional fuzzy inference system. The method of fuzzy inference is E. H. Mamdani\u27s method. The inputs to the system are not numerals, but the words of natural language. The system has been able to respond with no inconsistencies to any input

In this paper, we examined the extraction of character regions from bookshelf images to assist in making a book database system. The extraction algorithm has two processes, 1) an extraction of the book images from the bookshelf image, 2) an extraction of character regions from the book images. In the first stage, the bookshelf image is divided into several sectors based on the direction of density gradient of the image pixels. Then, by applying the Hough translation, the straight lines composing the edge lines of the book images can be detected. In the second process, we use the peripheral distribution of the book image to detect the width and height of each character. Using 23 bookshelf images containing 124 books with 1227 characters, we obtained an extraction rate of book images of 93.5 (%) and an extraction rate of character regions of 89.9 (%)
