ADEPT2 - Next Generation Process Management Technology
If current process management systems shall be applied to a broad spectrum of applications, they will have to be significantly improved with respect to their technological capabilities. In particular, in dynamic environments it must be possible to quickly implement and deploy new processes, to enable ad-hoc modifications of single process instances at runtime (e.g., to add, delete or shift process steps), and to support process schema evolution with instance migration, i.e., to propagate process schema changes to already running instances. These requirements must be met without affecting process consistency and by preserving the robustness of the process management system. In this paper we describe how these challenges have been addressed and solved in the ADEPT2 Process Management System. Our overall vision is to provide a next generation process management technology which can be used in a variety of application domains
Colloidal hydrodynamic coupling in concentric optical vortices
Optical vortex traps created from helical modes of light can drive
fluid-borne colloidal particles in circular trajectories. Concentric
circulating rings of particles formed by coaxial optical vortices form a
microscopic Couette cell, in which the amount of hydrodynamic drag experienced
by the spheres depends on the relative sense of the rings' circulation.
Tracking the particles' motions makes possible measurements of the hydrodynamic
coupling between the circular particle trains and addresses recently proposed
hydrodynamic instabilities for collective colloidal motions on optical

Home country effects of offshoring. A critical survey on empirical literature.
The International fragmentation of production processes is of rising importance. One part of this fragmentation involves the relocation of a production process from a home- to a new host country. This literature survey deals with the effects of such relocations on the home country. First of all, we try to conceptualize the terms and definitions most frequently used in this context which are "outsourcing", "offshore outsourcing" and "offshoring". Despite the fact that there is little textual documentation dealing directly with the phenomena of offshoring and offshore outsourcing we try to give an overview of possible empirical literature to which one can regard to. Including FDI literature we try to cover empirical literature which can provide helpful insight on the effects of a relocation to foreign countries on the home country in connection with wages, skill upgrading, prices, profits, taxes and unions. Temperature dependence of the diffuse scattering fine structure in equiatomic CuAu
The temperature dependence of the diffuse scattering fine structure from
disordered equiatomic CuAu was studied using {\it in situ} x-ray scattering. In
contrast to CuAu the diffuse peak splitting in CuAu was found to be
relatively insensitive to temperature. Consequently, no evidence for a
divergence of the antiphase length-scale at the transition temperature was
found. At all temperatures studied the peak splitting is smaller than the value
corresponding to the CuAuII modulated phase. An extended Ginzburg-Landau
approach is used to explain the temperature dependence of the diffuse peak
profiles in the ordering and modulation directions. The estimated mean-field
instability point is considerably lower than is the case for CuAu.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
Amine-Gold Linked Single-Molecule Junctions: Experiment and Theory
The measured conductance distribution for single molecule benzenediamine-gold
junctions, based on 59,000 individual conductance traces recorded while
breaking a gold point contact in solution, has a clear peak at 0.0064 G
with a width of 40%. Conductance calculations based on density functional
theory (DFT) for 15 distinct junction geometries show a similar spread.
Differences in local structure have a limited influence on conductance because
the amine-Au bonding motif is well-defined and flexible. The average calculated
conductance (0.046 G) is seven times larger than experiment, suggesting
the importance of many-electron corrections beyond DFT
Monte Carlo simulation of subsurface ordering kinetics in an fcc-alloy model
Within the atom-vacancy exchange mechanism in a nearest-neighbor interaction
model we investigate the kinetics of surface-induced ordering processes close
to the (001) surface of an fcc A_3B-alloy. After a sudden quench into the
ordered phase with a final temperature above the ordering spinodal, T_f > T_sp,
the early time kinetics is dominated by a segregation front which propagates
into the bulk with nearly constant velocity. Below the spinodal, T_f < T_sp,
motion of the segregation wave reflects a coarsening process which appears to
be slower than predicted by the Lifschitz-Allen-Cahn law. In addition, in the
front-penetrated region lateral growth differs distinctly from perpendicular
growth, as a result of the special structure of antiphase boundaries near the
surface. Our results are compared with recent experiments on the subsurface

Incorporating interactive 3-dimensional graphics in astronomy research papers
Most research data collections created or used by astronomers are
intrinsically multi-dimensional. In contrast, all visual representations of
data presented within research papers are exclusively 2-dimensional. We present
a resolution of this dichotomy that uses a novel technique for embedding
3-dimensional (3-d) visualisations of astronomy data sets in electronic-format
research papers. Our technique uses the latest Adobe Portable Document Format
extensions together with a new version of the S2PLOT programming library. The
3-d models can be easily rotated and explored by the reader and, in some cases,
modified. We demonstrate example applications of this technique including: 3-d
figures exhibiting subtle structure in redshift catalogues, colour-magnitude
diagrams and halo merger trees; 3-d isosurface and volume renderings of
cosmological simulations; and 3-d models of instructional diagrams and

ADEPT2 – Ein adaptives Prozess-Management-System der nächsten Generation.
Prozess-Management-Systeme müssen gegenüber dem heutigen Stand der Technik erheblich leistungsfähiger werden, um für ein wirklich breites Anwendungsspektrum einsetzbar zu sein: Neue Prozesse müssen sehr viel rascher implementierbar sein, zur Laufzeit müssen bei Bedarf Ad-hoc-Abweichungen vom modellierten Prozessschema unterstützt werden und bei Änderungen am Prozessschema selbst, müssen die bereits laufenden Prozessinstanzen – falls erforderlich – systemseitig auf das neue Schema migriert werden können; und dies alles unter systemseitiger Zusicherung von Konsistenz und Robustheit der (weiteren) Prozessausführung.
