Synchrotron Polarization at High Galactic Latitude
We present preliminary results from mapping the high-latitude Galactic
polarization with the Effelsberg Telescope at 21 cm. Structures on the
resulting maps are mostly on the scale of several degrees. The results show
detection of polarization over most of the field, at the level of tens of
percent of the synchrotron emission. The evidence of more structure in Stokes Q
and U rather than in suggests the existence of Faraday

Precise half-life measurement of the 10 h isomer in 154Tb
The precise knowledge of the half-life of the reaction product is of crucial
importance for a nuclear reaction cross section measurement carried out with
the activation technique. The cross section of the 151Eu(alpha,n)154Tb reaction
has been measured recently using the activation method, however, the half-life
of the 10 h isomer in 154Tb has a relatively high uncertainty and ambiguous
values can be found in the literature. Therefore, the precise half-life of the
isomeric state has been measured and found to be 9.994 h +- 0.039 h. With
careful analysis of the systematic errors, the uncertainty of this half-life
value has been significantly reduced.Comment: Accepted for publication in Nuclear Physics
DA495 - an aging pulsar wind nebula
We present a radio continuum study of the pulsar wind nebula (PWN) DA 495
(G65.7+1.2), including images of total intensity and linear polarization from
408 to 10550 MHz based on the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey and observations
with the Effelsberg 100-m Radio Telescope. Removal of flux density
contributions from a superimposed \ion{H}{2} region and from compact
extragalactic sources reveals a break in the spectrum of DA 495 at 1.3 GHz,
with a spectral index below the break and
above it (). The
spectral break is more than three times lower in frequency than the lowest
break detected in any other PWN. The break in the spectrum is likely the result
of synchrotron cooling, and DA 495, at an age of 20,000 yr, may have
evolved from an object similar to the Vela X nebula, with a similarly energetic
pulsar. We find a magnetic field of 1.3 mG inside the nebula. After
correcting for the resulting high internal rotation measure, the magnetic field
structure is quite simple, resembling the inner part of a dipole field
projected onto the plane of the sky, although a toroidal component is likely
also present. The dipole field axis, which should be parallel to the spin axis
of the putative pulsar, lies at an angle of {\sim}50\degr east of the North
Celestial Pole and is pointing away from us towards the south-west. The upper
limit for the radio surface brightness of any shell-type supernova remnant
emission around DA 495 is OAWatt

The Influence of Social Responsibility Image Relative to Product and Service Quality on Brand Loyalty: An Exploratory Study of Quick-service Restaurants
Social responsibility (SR) is becoming an increasingly significant component of many firmsâ strategic planning decisions. Research has shown that consumers tend to reward socially responsible behavior. However, there has been little testing of the construct in the hospitality industry. Additionally, when other important variables that influence consumer brand loyalty are considered, will brand social responsibility image (BSRI) still play a significant role? This study investigates the importance of SR and its impact on brand loyalty, relative to product quality and service quality in the quick-service restaurant industry. The authors were also interested to learn whether BSRI impacted consumers\u27 image of product and service quality. It was found that BSRI had a positive impact on brand loyalty, product quality, and service quality. However, product quality was a significantly stronger predictor of brand loyalty than BSRI. Where the vast majority of studies of SR have utilized scenario analysis of hypothetical firms, this study utilizes consumers\u27 perceptions of a real-world firm
Universality of Electron Mobility in LaAlO/SrTiO and bulk SrTiO
Metallic LaAlO/SrTiO (LAO/STO) interfaces attract enormous attention,
but the relationship between the electron mobility and the sheet electron
density, , is poorly understood. Here we derive a simple expression for
the three-dimensional electron density near the interface, , as a
function of and find that the mobility for LAO/STO-based interfaces
depends on in the same way as it does for bulk doped STO. It is known
that undoped bulk STO is strongly compensated with background donors and acceptors. In intentionally doped
bulk STO with a concentration of electrons background impurities
determine the electron scattering. Thus, when it is natural to see
in LAO/STO the same mobility as in the bulk. On the other hand, in the bulk
samples with the mobility collapses because scattering happens on
intentionally introduced donors. For LAO/STO the polar catastrophe
which provides electrons is not supposed to provide equal number of random
donors and thus the mobility should be larger. The fact that the mobility is
still the same implies that for the LAO/STO the polar catastrophe model should

Edge-functionalized and substitutional doped graphene nanoribbons: electronic and spin properties
Graphene nanoribbons are the counterpart of carbon nanotubes in
graphene-based nanoelectronics. We investigate the electronic properties of
chemically modified ribbons by means of density functional theory. We observe
that chemical modifications of zigzag ribbons can break the spin degeneracy.
This promotes the onset of a semiconducting-metal transition, or of an
half-semiconducting state, with the two spin channels having a different
bandgap, or of a spin-polarized half-semiconducting state -where the spins in
the valence and conduction bands are oppositely polarized. Edge
functionalization of armchair ribbons gives electronic states a few eV away
from the Fermi level, and does not significantly affect their bandgap. N and B
produce different effects, depending on the position of the substitutional
site. In particular, edge substitutions at low density do not significantly
alter the bandgap, while bulk substitution promotes the onset of
semiconducting-metal transitions. Pyridine-like defects induce a

A Sino-German 6 cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane II. The region from 129 degree to 230 degree longitude
Linearly polarized Galactic synchrotron emission provides valuable
information about the properties of the Galactic magnetic field and the
interstellar magneto-ionic medium, when Faraday rotation along the line of
sight is properly taken into account. We aim to survey the Galactic plane at 6
cm including linear polarization. At such a short wavelength Faraday rotation
effects are in general small and the Galactic magnetic field properties can be
probed to larger distances than at long wavelengths. The Urumqi 25-m telescope
is used for a sensitive 6 cm survey in total and polarized intensities. WMAP
K-band (22.8 GHz) polarization data are used to restore the absolute zero-level
of the Urumqi U and Q maps by extrapolation. Total intensity and polarization
maps are presented for a Galactic plane region of 129 degree < l < 230 degree
and |b| < 5 degree in the anti-centre with an angular resolution of 9'5 and an
average sensitivity of 0.6 mK and 0.4 mK Tb in total and polarized intensity,
respectively. We briefly discuss the properties of some extended Faraday
Screens detected in the 6 cm polarization maps. The Sino-German 6 cm
polarization survey provides new information about the properties of the
magnetic ISM. The survey also adds valuable information for discrete Galactic
objects and is in particular suited to detect extended Faraday Screens with

Epitaxial LaFeAsOF thin films grown by pulsed laser deposition
Superconducting and epitaxially grown LaFeAsOF thin films were successfully
prepared on (001)-oriented LaAlO3 substrates using pulsed laser deposition. The
prepared thin films show exclusively a single in-plane orientation with
epitaxial relation (001)[100] parallel to (001)[100] and a FWHM value of 1deg.
Furthermore, resistive measurement of the superconducting transition
temperature revealed a Tc90 of 25K with a high residual resistive ratio of 6.8.
The applied preparation technique, standard thin film pulsed laser deposition
at room temperature in combination with a subsequent post annealing process, is
suitable for fabrication of high quality LaFeAsO1-xFx thin films. A high upper
critical field of 76.2 T was evaluated for magnetic fields applied
perpendicular to the c-axis and the anisotropy was calculated to be 3.3
assuming single band superconductivity.Comment: 6 pages, 4 Figure
