Activities as a research resource

Activities play a guiding central role in occupational therapy, articulating to its utilization, the understanding and assessment of its capabilities in numerous and different interventions arising from this field. In this study, we aim to present the use of activities as a research methodology resource. Considering the pathways studied in a master’s research followed by a PhD work, some applications of this resource are reported as a powerful strategy of investigation for the occupational therapy researcher. It is about structuring, systematizing, and analyzing the activities proposed in professional practice by the theoretical and methodological rigor used in the research works. It emphasizes how the use of these activities can be considered important data, records, instruments and sources for different research methods, especially for qualitative analyses. Workshop activities were offered in the above mentioned studies; they were used as communication instruments and expressions of personal and collective experiences, supplying data to understand the actions of subjects and collectives. Furthermore, this strategy was applied as spaces of experimentation, learning and expression, where each participant was conceived as an active being of the process, in a way that the proposal could result in democratic experiences that reflected greater interest and participation, and a more complex presentation of the research data. It is worth mentioning that other methodological procedures, which substantiated the analyses and interpretation of the data collected, were also used. It was possible to conclude that activities, mainly as a qualitative research resource, constituted materialities in different languages and expressions that enriched the analyses arising from micro-realities, producing a repertoire of information that supported the interpretations required for the investigative processes

Gestão de Processos em Ambientes Universitários: o exemplo da Unicamp

As organizações estão passando por constantes transformações e a gestão estratégica auxiliada pela gestão de processos pode auxiliar em muito a longevidade e adaptação destas organizações. As Universidades são organizações complexas, pela sua própria definição e também estão inseridas neste contexto de mudanças, portanto precisam se atualizar quanto aos mecanismos e ferramentas existentes. A Unicamp já é um exemplo de organização universitária que busca o aprimoramento das suas ações através da gestão por processos. O artigo tem como objetivo apresentar e consolidar os conceitos da gestão de processos e apresentá-lo como alternativa para as organizações universitárias, por meio do exemplo da implantação na Unicamp. Foi realizado um estudo por meio de levantamento bibliográfico nas publicações existentes sobre o assunto e em documentos da Unicamp. As organizações universitárias têm muito a ganhar com a adoção da gestão de processos, além do que os maiores beneficiados serão os seus clientes tanto internos como externos

Gestão Pública: A Universidade como ente público e de formação para uma gestão accountable.

O artigo tem como objetivo descrever a gestão pública dentro da área da administração, analisar aspectos das organizações universitárias brasileiras, destacar os principais conceitos de accountability e as suas classificações, e o papel da universidade neste contexto. O artigo foi desenvolvido através de um levantamento bibliográfico das publicações já existentes sobre o assunto, portanto se caracteriza como um estudo exploratório e descritivo. Este trabalho contribui com estudos no campo da accountability relacionados à gestão universitária, assim como reforça os conceitos na área da gestão pública

UNIVERSIDADES E MERCADO: COMO OS PRINCÍPIOS DE MERCADO TEM INFLUENCIADO A GESTÃO DA PESQUISA NO BRASIL

Este artigo faz uma análise das dificuldades relatadas pelos docentes pesquisadores vinculados aos programas de pós-graduação de uma universidade pública brasileira na execução de seu trabalho quotidiano e como os princípios de mercado utilizadas na gestão os têm afetado. A pesquisa foi feita em forma de estudo de caso. Foi efetuado um estudo bibliográfico com base em referências nacionais e internacionais com o objetivo não só da análise mais profunda da questão da gestão da pesquisa e da pós-graduação brasileira, mas também para conhecer e ter elementos de comparação com os modelos de gestão adotados fora do país. Os resultados obtidos foram analisados de forma qualitativa e os dados foram colhidos por meio de entrevista semiestruturada sendo apresentados neste artigo agrupados por assuntos correlatos e distribuídos de acordo com as áreas que atuam mais próximas do mercado e mais afastadas deste

From lab to plate: life cycle assessment of herring and lingonberry co-product valorization

Food industry side streams can be a source of valuable raw materials, e.g., high-quality proteins from fish filleting co-products, and natural antioxidants from fruit pomace. pH-shifting is a food processing technique that allows the solubilization and extraction of proteins.\ua0 Cross-processing fish co-products and a helper (e.g., lingonberry pomace), inhibits lipid oxidation during processing. We carried out a life cycle assessment of a pH-shift method for cross-processing herring heads and back bones with lingonberry pomace (CROSS). We modeled the resulting protein ingredient as input to a fish ball and compared that with a benchmark fish ball.\ua0 We upscaled primary laboratory data for the cross-process following Piccinno et al. (2016). Life cycle inventory data for salmon production was based on Winther et al. (2020), including feed composed of agricultural, micro-ingredients, and 14 different fish species. We also included fishery discards following P\ue9rez Roda (2019). Among other impact indicators we used the depleted stock fraction proposed by H\ue9lias et al. (2018) to characterize impacts on marine resources. Fish balls produced with the cross-processed protein ingredient perform better than the benchmark option in all investigated categories. Using oils extracted during cross-processing in the fish ball formulation could reduce land use impacts of the final product and improve its nutritional profile

Limed in sandy soils for soybean cultivation: A mini-review

Liming is the method in which limestone is applied to regulate the pH of the soil reducing its acidity and making the minerals labile. This study aimed to evaluate the management of liming using dolomitic limestone in sandy textured soils, on the development of soybean cultivation through a bibliographical survey. Sandy soil also, known as “light soil” is largely composed of sand and a smaller proportion of clay around 70% and 15% respectively, its grain size is higher, and the presence of nutrients is very scarce. Correcting soil acidity through liming is the first step towards obtaining a considerably productive crop, especially in recently cleared areas. Since in acidic soils, the limitation to plant development arises mainly from the indirect effects of pH. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the soil continuously as well as the weather conditions in order to obtain the desired result. Several results have been observed in which the use of liming in acidic soils, mainly in the Brazilian Cerrado, reduces the toxic action of aluminum on the plant and promotes greater absorption of nutrients and micronutrients for the plants, in addition to maintaining the soil microbiota

Political Preferences and Individual Choice: A Latin American’s Countries Perspective

Analyzing the “left” and “right” political positions of individuals is challenging because personal attributes may influence political decisions without directly causing them. This issue may be even more pronounced in Latin America, where young democracies encounter the challenge of stabilizing political choices over time. This study contributes to the literature by analyzing the influence of personal attributes on political choices, focusing on the early 2000s, when the “left” turn occurred. The present study relies on the World Values Survey’s fifth wave (2005-2008) to fulfil this objective. This dataset is composed of data that have been collected globally, and the questions are related to diverse subjects associated with the quality of life of individuals. From the available sample, we included all of the Latin American countries that participated in this wave: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay. In this study, the aim is to directly understand the impact of these individuals own attributes on their declared self-positioning about the political leaning. To this aim, an ordered logit model was used to analyse how each variable exerts influence on the political leaning of the respondents. Our results found that political cleavages depend on demographic factors, economic factors, and individual opinions in agreement with previous studies. Increased age, religious service attendance, and satisfaction with one’s financial life increase the tendency of individuals for self-positioning to the right of the political spectrum. The possession of a university degree and residence in a large city increases the likelihood of individuals of self-identifying with a leftist political position. This study contributes to the literature by analysing the influence of personal attributes on political choices. Although this research represents an important step toward understanding political leanings in Latin American countries, a significant amount of future research remains. The definitions of “left” and “right” continue to be unclear as they relate to dimensions that include democracy, autocracy, and political reform. Understanding the ways individuals set up their choices would increase the responsibility of political parties and authorities for the hidden claim the population has about their deliverables. At the same time, studies like ours may enhance the awareness of the general impression over political party choices of candidates. Finally, even with so many confounding aspects in this antagonist position, the left and the right continue to be a simple way to characterize veiled assumptions. Therefore, it may be an ambiguous form of defining choices, but this seemingly binary choice is still very significant for voters in Latin America.

A interação durante as provas operatórias: considerações para a avaliação infantil

The Jean Piaget’s theory classifies child development in stages, according to the cognitive structures established by age and prepares the system of child evaluation – operational tests, known and used in many occasions by occupational therapists. We’ll present relevant results of a critical-reflexive research aimed to analyze the variables during the application of operational conservation tests; seriation; classification and symbolic function in children in pre-operational, formal operational and concrete operational stages. The applied methodologies and materials used were intentionally modified in three stages for each test: traditional material and methodology; diversified material and active manipulation; and personalized material and active methodology. After three months of applications, image recording, completion of research instruments and analyses performed, the main results showed that the active manipulation and the relationship with the diversified materials contributed to answers of higher intellectual maturity of the child, in a considerable number of sessions.A teoria de Jean Piaget classifica o desenvolvimento infantil em estágios, de acordo com as estruturas cognitivas delineadas por idade e elabora o sistema de avaliação infantil - provas operatórias, conhecido e muitas vezes utilizado pelo terapeuta ocupacional. Serão apresentados os resultados relevantes de uma pesquisa que objetivou a análise crítica-reflexiva de variáveis durante a aplicação de provas operatórias de conservação; seriação; classificação e função simbólica em crianças nas fases pré-operatória, operatória e operatória concreta. As metodologias aplicadas e os materiais utilizados foram intencionalmente modificados em três etapas para cada prova: material e metodologia tradicionais, material diversificado e manuseio ativo e material personalizado e metodologia ativa. Após três meses de aplicações, registros imagéticos, instrumentos de pesquisa preenchidos e análises realizadas, temos como principais resultados que o manuseio ativo e a relação com os materiais diversificados contribuíram para respostas de maior maturidade intelectual da criança, em um número considerável de sessões

Essential public health functions in the nursing curriculum at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul

The Pan American Health Organization referential of Essential Public Health Functions (EPHF) was developed to improve public health performance, which depends on professional education. A case study with the objective of identifying the insertion of EPHF in the curriculum of the nursing undergraduate course at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul was developed. Keywords were defined from the definitions of the eleven EPHF. These were searched for in the class plans of the curriculum courses. Ten EPHF were identified, with major occurrence of the human health resources development and training in public health. Contemplating more intensively some of the EPHF, the curriculum under study should propitiate the education of nurses capable of contributing towards their performance. It is necessary to insert the other EPHF into the curriculum, contributing to the excellent performance of public health by the professionals educated in this institution.O referencial das Funções Essenciais de Saúde Pública (FESP), da Organização Pan-Americana da Saúde, foi desenvolvido para melhorar o desempenho da saúde pública, o qual depende da formação dos profissionais de saúde. Foi realizado um estudo de caso com objetivo de identificar a inserção das FESP no Currículo do Curso de Graduação em Enfermagem da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Foram definidas palavras-chave a partir das definições das onze FESP, procedendo-se à busca nos planos de ensino das disciplinas do Currículo. Verificou-se a inserção de dez FESP, sendo a de maior ocorrência a de desenvolvimento de recursos humanos e capacitação em saúde pública. O Currículo em estudo contempla algumas FESP de forma mais intensa, o que deve propiciar a formação de enfermeiras capazes de contribuir para o desempenho destas. É necessário inserir as demais, contribuindo para o bom desempenho da saúde pública pelos profissionais formados na instituição.El referencial de las Funciones Esenciales de Salud Pública (FESP) de la Organización Panamericana de la Salud fue desarrollado para mejorar el desempeño de la salud pública, el cual depende de la formación de los profesionales de la salud. Se realizó un estudio de caso con el objetivo de identificar la inserción de las FESP en el Curriculum del Curso de Graduación en Enfermería de la Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Fueron definidos descriptores a partir de las definiciones de las once FESP, procediéndose a la búsqueda en los Planes de Estudio del Curriculum. Se verificó la inserción de diez FESP, resultando la de mayor grado de ocurrencia la que alude al desarrollo de recursos humanos y capacitación en salud pública. El Curriculum en estudio contempla algunas FESP de forma más intensa, lo que debe propiciar la formación de enfermeras capaces de contribuir en su desempeño. Es necesario insertar a las demás, para contribuir a la buena interpretación de la salud pública por parte de los profesionales formados en la institución

EXPERIÊNCIAS DE EDUCAÇÃO SUPERIOR A DISTÂNCIA NO MUNDO

Por meio do presente trabalho tem-se por objetivo relatar algumas experiências de educação superior a distância no mundo tanto de instituições especializadas quanto de instituições integradas e parceiras. Para tanto, realizou-se uma pesquisa caracterizada como qualitativa e descritiva, tendo sido a coleta e a análise de dados realizadas por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, sendo esta por meio de acesso aos sites das instituições na Internet. É possível constatar a variedade de cursos oferecidos nas diferentes áreas do conhecimento, as possibilidades oferecidas aos estudantes no sentido de cada vez mais tornar o acesso facilitado àqueles que por múltiplas razões não conseguem ter acesso ao ensino tradicional, além de sua difusão por todas as regiões do globo e com uma bagagem de experiência histórica considerável
