    Automatic User Profile Construction for a Personalized News Recommender System Using Twitter

    Modern society has now grown accustomed to reading online or digital news. However, the huge corpus of information available online poses a challenge to users when trying to find relevant articles. A hybrid system “Personalized News Recommender Using Twitter’ has been developed to recommend articles to a user based on the popularity of the articles and also the profile of the user. The hybrid system is a fusion of a collaborative recommender system developed using tweets from the “Twitter” public timeline and a content recommender system based the user’s past interests summarized in their conceptual user profile. In previous work, a user’s profile was built manually by asking the user to explicitly rate his/her interest in a category by entering a score for the corresponding category. This is not a reliable approach as the user may not be able to accurately specify their interest for a category with a number. In this work, an automatic profile builder was developed that uses an implicit approach to build the user’s profile. The specificity of the user profile was also increased to incorporate fifteen categories versus seven in the previous system. We concluded with an experiment to study the impact of automatic profile builder and the increased set of categories on the accuracy of the hybrid news recommender syste

    Characterization of a Novel RING-type Ubiquitin E3 Ligase GhRING2 involved in Cotton Fiber Development

    The ubiquitin-proteasome proteolysis pathway is responsible for the degradation of abnormal and short-lived proteins to regulate many important biochemical activities in eukaryotes. By employing affymetrix microarray analysis, we have identified a novel ubiquitin ligase E3 gene GhRING2 that is expressed differentially between two G. hirsutum lines - Texas Marker-1 and Chromosome Substitution Line CS-B25. The complete GhRING2 gene sequence was obtained by genomic and cDNA walking. The expression of GhRING2 in cotton fiber is developmentally regulated, suggesting that the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway may regulate cotton fiber growth and development. Using a yeast two-hybrid assay GhRING2 was found to interact with a PROTODERMAL FACTOR1 (GhPDF1) protein. GhPDF1 is expressed preferentially in immature ovules and fiber initials and the gene has been suggested to play a role in cell fate determination and fiber development. Pull down and plasmid swap assays were employed to confirm this interaction

    A Generative Model For Zero Shot Learning Using Conditional Variational Autoencoders

    Zero shot learning in Image Classification refers to the setting where images from some novel classes are absent in the training data but other information such as natural language descriptions or attribute vectors of the classes are available. This setting is important in the real world since one may not be able to obtain images of all the possible classes at training. While previous approaches have tried to model the relationship between the class attribute space and the image space via some kind of a transfer function in order to model the image space correspondingly to an unseen class, we take a different approach and try to generate the samples from the given attributes, using a conditional variational autoencoder, and use the generated samples for classification of the unseen classes. By extensive testing on four benchmark datasets, we show that our model outperforms the state of the art, particularly in the more realistic generalized setting, where the training classes can also appear at the test time along with the novel classes

    MULTI-FUNCTIONAL CARBON DOTS: A SYSTEMATIC OVERVIEW

    Carbon dots (CDs) have emerged as a potential material in the multifarious fields of biomedical applications due to their numerous advantageous properties including tunable fluorescence, water solubility, biocompatibility, low toxicity, small size and ease of modification, inexpensive scale-up production, and versatile conjugation with other targeted nanoparticles. Thus, CDs became a preferable choice in various biomedical applications such as nanocarriers for drugs, therapeutic genes, photo sensitizers, unique electronic, fluorescent, photo luminescent, chemiluminescent, and electro chemiluminescent, drug/gene delivery and optoelectronics properties are what gives them potential in sensing and antibacterial molecules. Further, their potentials have also been verified in multifunctional diagnostic platforms, cellular and bacterial bio-imaging, development of nanomedicine, etc. This present review provides a concise insight into the progress and evolution in the field of carbon dots research with respect to synthesis methods and materials available in bio-imaging, theranostic, cancer, gene therapy, diagnostics, etc. Further, our discussion is extended to explore the role of CDs in nanomedicine and nano theranostic, biotherapy which is the future of biomedicine and also serves to discuss the various properties of carbon dots which allow chemotherapy and gene therapy to be safer and more target-specific, resulting in the reduction of side effects experienced by patients and also the overall increase in patient compliance and quality of life and representative studies on their activities against bacteria, fungi, and viruses reviewed and discussed. This study will thus help biomedical researchers in percuss the potential of CDs to overcome various existing technological challenges

    DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF A STABILITY INDICATING LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHIC METHOD FOR THE SIMULTANEOUS ESTIMATION OF PAROXETINE AND CLONAZEPAM IN BULK AND ITS PHARMACEUTICAL FORMULATIONS

    A novel stability indicating reversed-phase liquid chromatographic method has been developed and validated for simultaneous estimation of paroxetine and clonazepam in combined pharmaceutical dosage form. An Agilent zorbax sb-c18 (250mmx4.6mmx5 µm) column with the mobile phase containing 0.2 % Orthophosphoric acid and Methanol (60:40 v/v) was used. The flow rate was maintained at 0.8 ml/min, column temperature was 30°C and effluents were monitored by using a photodiode array detector at 270 nm. The retention times of paroxetine and clonazepam were found to be 3.478min and 3.964 min, respectively. Correlation co-efficient for paroxetine and clonazepam were found to be 0.99 and 0.99, respectively. The proposed method was validated with respect to linearity, accuracy, precision, specificity, and robustness. Recovery of paroxetine and clonazepam in formulations was found to be in a range of 97-103% and 97-103% respectively. Paroxetine and clonazepam were also subjected to the stress conditions of oxidative, acid, base, hydrolytic, thermal and photolytic degradation. The degradation products were well resolved from and peak purity test results confirmed that paroxetine and clonazepam peaks were homogenous and pure in all stress samples, thus proving stability-indicating power of the method. Due to its simplicity, rapidness and high precision, this method can be applied for regular analysis

Many scholars around the world have been studying carbon nanotubes (CNTs) over the past two decades due to their enormous potential in a variety of sectors. Single-wall CNTs with dimensions in the nanometer range are commonly referred to as carbon nanotubes. Carbon nanotubes are also known as multi-wall CNTs, which are made up of nested single-wall CNTs that are weakly bonded together in a tree ring-like structure by van der Waals interactions. Tubes having an unknown carbon wall structure and diameters smaller than 100 nanometers are also referred to as carbon nanotubes. A carbon nanotube's length is often substantially longer than its diameter, according to standard manufacturing methods. Carbon nanotubes are capable of exhibiting a variety of remarkable properties.     Learning outcomes The learning objectives have been prepared in accordance with the Blooms Taxonomy (Engelhart et al., 1984). After completion of this case, students would be able to examine and expand the concept of institutions (i.e. a sport as an institution in this case) and understand how important it is to incorporate them in the policy level decision-making (Knowledge); understand a different form of the social institution (i.e. Jallikattu) and capture its relevance for all the involved stakeholders by taking into consideration the challenges that could stem from their interplay (Application); analyze the interests of various stakeholders and their concerns that add to the complexity of a socially relevant issue (Analysis); and integrate the developments of an event (i.e. Jallikattu) over its timeline and develop an action plan for being prepared or for resolving such exigencies, especially for public policy decision making (Synthesis). Case overview/synopsis The case is centred on Senaapathy Kangayam Cattle Research Foundation whose primary aim is conservation and breeding of native breeds of cattle. The protagonist of the case, Karthikeya Sivasenapathy, managing trustee of this foundation, has invested significant efforts to create awareness on the importance of Jallikattu. Jallikattu is an ancient Indian sport played in the rural regions of Tamil Nadu state in India and has been in existence for over 5,000 years. This issue has come into limelight due to its initial ban by the Supreme Court of India in 2014 and its subsequent stay on the ban in 2016. While there are several arguments surrounding this controversy, the arguments can be broadly classified under those who support the ban (i.e. oppose Jallikattu) and those who oppose the ban (i.e. support Jallikattu). Due to the involvement of various stakeholders (government supreme court, animal welfare boards and breed saviour groups) with conflicting objectives, the dynamics of decision-making to settle this issue became very complicated, confusing and time-consuming for Karthikeya. By using the lens of institutions and stakeholder theory, the authors explain the issue around Jallikattu in this teaching note. Teaching note also documents the unfolding of events that happened after 12 January 2017 which succeeded in lifting the ban on Jallikattu. Complexity academic level The case is written for undergraduate and graduate-level students pursuing business programmes and for senior management professionals participating in the executive education programmes. The case is suitable for those who are expected to work in an environment where there is a multitude of complex, formal as well as informal institutions. This case can be used to teach the concepts of institutions, the dynamics involved and to give the flavour of the interactions between these different institutions in solving a social issue. The ring (1,1) is one of the sub class of (γ,δ) rings. Consider a (1,1) derivation alternator ring R, with characteristic ≠ 2, and it is well known that this ring is neither alternative nor flexible. In this paper it will be proved that right alternative property (R,x,x) holds in R and flexibility follows, finally associativity arrives in R. Findings: If this ring R does not contain nilpotent elements even though it will be associative.
