New Variants of Pattern Matching with Constants and Variables
Given a text and a pattern over two types of symbols called constants and
variables, the parameterized pattern matching problem is to find all
occurrences of substrings of the text that the pattern matches by substituting
a variable in the text for each variable in the pattern, where the substitution
should be injective. The function matching problem is a variant of it that
lifts the injection constraint. In this paper, we discuss variants of those
problems, where one can substitute a constant or a variable for each variable
of the pattern. We give two kinds of algorithms for both problems, a
convolution-based method and an extended KMP-based method, and analyze their

Zero gravity and cardiovascular homeostasis. The relationship between endogenous hyperprolactinemia and plasma aldosterone
Prolactin, thyrotropin and aldosterone were measured by radioimmunoassay and plasma renin activity by the radioimmunoassay of angiotensin I in normal women before and after the intravenous injection of 200 micrograms of thyrotropin releasing hormone. Prolactin increased at 15 minutes following thyrotropin releasing hormone. Plasma renin activity was not different from control levels during the first hour following the administration of thyrotropin releasing hormone, nor did the plasma aldosterone concentration differ significantly from the control levels during this period. However, with upright posture, an increase in aldosterone and in plasma renin activity was noted, demonstrating a normal capacity to secrete aldosterone. Similarly, no change in aldosterone was seen in 9 patients with primary hypothyroidism given thyrotropin releasing hormone, despite the fact that the increase in prolactin was greater than normal. These data demonstrate that acutely or chronically elevated serum prolactin levels do not result in increased plasma aldosterone levels in humans
Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Udder Pathogens Isolated from Dairy Herds in the West Littoral Region of Uruguay
A total of 522 strains belonging to streptococci, enterococci and staphylococci isolated from sub-clinical and clinical cases of bovine mastitis from the west littoral region of Uruguay were analysed for their susceptibility to several antimicrobial agents. The susceptibility patterns were studied by agar disk diffusion methods (ADDM) and broth micro-dilution to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). The concentration that inhibits 90% (MIC(90)) of the analysed strains reported in micrograms per millilitre, for Staphylococcus aureus were > 8, 8, ≤ 0.5, ≤ 4, ≤ 1, ≤ 0.5, > 64, ≤ 0.25, 0.5, ≤ 1 and ≤ 1 to penicillin, ampicillin, oxacillin, cephalotin, gentamicin, erythromycin, oxitetracycline, enrofloxacin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, neomycin, and clindamycin, respectively. Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) had different values for penicillin (4) and ampicillin (2), while the other antimicrobial agents had the same MIC(90 )values as reported for S. aureus. The MIC(90 )values for streptococci were 0.12, 0.25, ≤ 4, 16, ≤ 0.25, 0.5, 0.25 for penicillin, ampicillin, cephalotin, gentamicin, erythromycin, oxytetracycline and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, whereas MIC(90 )for enterococci were 4, 4, 4, ≤ 0.5, 2, > 8 for penicillin, ampicillin, gentamicin, erythromycin, oxytetracycline and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, respectively. Of 336 strains of S. aureus, 160 (47.6%) were resistant to penicillin. For 41 CNS strains, 10 (27%) presented penicillin-resistance. All the streptococcal strains were susceptible to penicillin, while 3 (7%) of the 43 enteroccocal strains were resistant. Non significant statistical differences were found between the results obtained by ADDM and broth micro-dilution for classifying bacterial isolates as susceptible or resistant according to the National Committee of Clinical Laboratory Standards
Binary Decision Diagrams: from Tree Compaction to Sampling
Any Boolean function corresponds with a complete full binary decision tree.
This tree can in turn be represented in a maximally compact form as a direct
acyclic graph where common subtrees are factored and shared, keeping only one
copy of each unique subtree. This yields the celebrated and widely used
structure called reduced ordered binary decision diagram (ROBDD). We propose to
revisit the classical compaction process to give a new way of enumerating
ROBDDs of a given size without considering fully expanded trees and the
compaction step. Our method also provides an unranking procedure for the set of
ROBDDs. As a by-product we get a random uniform and exhaustive sampler for
ROBDDs for a given number of variables and size
Collision and fusion of counterpropagating micron-sized optical beams in non-uniformly biased photorefractive crystals
We theoretically investigate collision of optical beams travelling in
opposite directions through a centrosymmetric photorefractive crystal biased by
a spatially non-uniform voltage. We analytically predict the fusion of
counterpropagating solitons in conditions in which the applied voltage is
rapidly modulated along the propagation axis, so that self-bending is
suppressed by the "restoring symmetry" mechanism. Moreover, when the applied
voltage is slowly modulated, we predict that the modified self-bending allows
conditions in which the two beams fuse together, forming a curved light-channel
