The Resulting transformed governing equations are solved numerically by an implicit finite-difference scheme (Keller-Box method). The results are presented for the major parameters including the wave amplitude , buoyancy ratio parameter , Brownian motion parameter , Thermophoresis parameter and Lewis number. A systematic study on the effects of the various parameters of the local frication factor, surface heat transfer rate (Nusselt number) and mass transfer rate (Sherwood number) characteristics is carried out.     The anticancer activity of several platinum compounds is due to the formation of complexes with DNA. We hypothesize that the size and shape of the platinum compounds would impact interaction with proteins, and these interactions may be partly responsible for the anticancer activity. Chymotrypsin and subtilisin are serine proteases that have a histidine residue in the active site. We are investigating the inhibition of the digestive enzymes chymotrypsin and subtilisin by analogs of the anticancer drug cisplatin and trying to discern trends in the inhibition as the active site residues vary. In our research, we found that the enzyme subtilisin did not show any significant inhibition with different platinum compounds we used, while chymotrypsin showed inhibition only with the potassium tetrachloroplatinate and this inhibition is concentration dependen

    Vision Based Vehicle Localization for Infrastructure Enabled Autonomy

    Primary objective of this research is to devise techniques to localize an autonomous vehicle in an Infrastructure Enabled Autonomy (IEA) setup. IEA is a new paradigm in autonomous vehicles research that aims at distributed intelligence architecture by transferring the core functionalities of sensing and localization to infrastructure. This paradigm is also promising in designing large scalable systems that enable autonomous car platooning on highways. A reliable camera calibration technique for such an experimental setup is discussed, followed by the technique for 2D image to 3D world coordinate transformation. In this research, information is received from: (1) on-board vehicle sensors like GPS and IMU, (2) localized car position data derived from deep learning on the real-time camera feeds and (3) lane detection data from infrastructure cameras. This data is fused together utilizing an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) to obtain reliable position estimates of the vehicle at 50 Hz. This position information is then used to control the vehicle with an objective of following a prescribed path. Extensive simulation and experimental results are also presented to corroborate the performance of the proposed approach

    Comparing Executive Functions in Dancers Versus Aerobic Exercisers: A Study on Older Adults

    Many older adults may experience cognitive decline with aging, and with a rising aging population it is important to investigate interventions that improve cognitive functions. The purpose of this study was to assess differences in executive functioning between older adult dancers and older adult aerobic exercisers. Given that dance involves the use of executive functions, in addition to engaging in aerobic exercise, older adult dancers were expected to score higher on the executive functioning tasks than the older adult aerobic exercisers. Using the Cambridge Brain Sciences Battery to assess executive functioning, this study sought to compare older adults, 50 years old and above, with 10 or more years of experience in dance or aerobic exercise and a control group with less than or equal to 1 year of experience in these activities. Because no participants were available for the aerobic exercise group, the study simply compared two older adult dancers with six older adults in the control group. A one-way between-groups analysis of variance indicated that the dance group and the control group did not differ significantly on any executive function measures. Specifically, the dance group and the control group did not differ in inhibitory control, planning, or working memory. However, these findings need to be interpreted with caution as the low sample size in both groups resulted in the study to be underpowered. Therefore, it cannot be definitively concluded that dance is not associated with higher cognitive functioning compared to the control group or the aerobic exercise group

    Nontuberculous Mycobacterium (NTM) Infection in Aquatic Workers with Purified Protein Derivative (PPD) and Gold QuantiFERON Tests.

    Background: Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infections are commonly caused by Mycobacterium marinum and fortuitum with M. marinum more likely to cause skin infections. Aquatic environments are a potential source of contact with M. marinum and fortuitum. Patients with NTM infections may present with positive tuberculin purified protein derivative (PPD) and/or gold QuantiFERON tests. However, PPD cannot differentiate between NTM infection and other tuberculous infections caused by different mycobacterial strains. We present a patient a marine biologist who was asymptomatic and presented for further evaluation as she has a h/o positive PPD and gold QuantiFERON test. Methods: Patient informed consent was obtained for this case report. Results: A 31 years old, healthy, female marine biologist employed in an aquatic environment presented to the clinic with a positive PPD and a positive gold QuantiFERON test. Her job exposes her to sea creatures that maybe infected with Mycobacterium marinum and fortuitum. She denied any history that was suggestive of tuberculous infection. A referral was made to specialist service for further evaluation at which time a repeat gold QuantiFERON test was performed and was noted to be positive. Following this work up, the patient preferred to follow a conservative treatment approach to monitor for any symptoms of active tuberculosis and seek follow up as needed. Conclusion: Clinicians should not downplay the importance of aquatic occupations and hobbies in patients who exhibit positive PPD and gold QuantiFERON test. Healthcare providers should consider NTM infection in their differential diagnosis when examining patient populations exposed to aquarium water, saltwater, and freshwater environments. Preventative apparel like waterproof gloves can protect the exposed skin from infection. Clinicians can prevent NTM infections by increasing awareness and promoting prevention measures in at-risk populations, particularly since infection can be prevented from appropriate protective attire
