Case of acute abdomen due to acute pancreatitis: a uncommon presentation of leptospirosis

    Get PDF
Even though, Leptospiral infection is not rare, it can have different rare presentations. Acute pancreatitis is one such uncommon gastrointestinal manifestation of acute pancreatitis. Apart from the classic clinical features, elevated serum lipase, along with radiological proof and positive leptospiral serology confirms this infrequent association.

    Significance Of Life Skills Education

    Get PDF
Adolescence is a period when the intellectual, physical, social, emotional and all the capabilities are very high, but, unfortunately, most of the adolescents are unable to utilize their potential to maximum due to various reasons.  They face many emerging issues such as global warming, famines, poverty, suicide, population explosion as well as other issues like alcoholism, drug abuse, sexual abuse, smoking, juvenile delinquency, anti-social acts, etc. that have an adverse effect on them and others too, to a large extent. The cut-throat competition, unemployment, lack of job security, etc. are some of the major concerns for the educated and as a result, they are caught in the mad race.  This new challenge requires immediate and effective responses from a socially responsible system of education. ‘Education’ is important, but education to support and live life better is more important. It has been felt that life skills education bridges the gap between basic functioning and capabilities. It strengthens the ability of an individual to meet the needs and demands of the present society and helps in dealing with the above issues in a manner to get desired behavior practical. Imparting life skill training through inculcating life skill education will help youth to overcome such difficulties in life. The present paper focuses on the importance of life skills education and the benefits of imparting life skill education in our curriculum i.e. developing social, emotional & thinking skills in students, as they are the important building blocks for a dynamic citizen, who can cope up with future challenges, and survive well

Short-Term and Medium-Term Prospects of Agricultural Sector in Gujarat – Some Policy Recommendations

    Get PDF
By mid-September, 2003 it is becoming clear that Gujarat is likely to experience a bumper crop in the year 2003-04. The State Ministry of Agriculture is looking for some concrete suggestions, advice and policy recommendations to better manage the situation likely to be created by the bumper crop this year. Falling prices in the face of bumper crop can considerably wipe out positive effect on agricultural incomes in the hands of farmers in the State. Short-term measures to avoid such a situation need to be integrated into medium term and long term development strategy for the State agricultural sector. The present paper provides some implementable policy recommendations in this context.

Design of HPCF with nearly zero flattened Chromatic Dispersion

Here we have consider an air-silica honeycomb lattice and demonstrate a new approach to the formation of a core defect. The honeycomb lattice has recently been suggested for the formation of a photonic band-gap guiding silica-core. Here we discuss how a core defect can be formed by manipulating the cladding region rather than the core region itself. There are so many difficulties occur during the design process. Because when parameters are being changed the designing varies accordingly. For this purpose we have use HPCF in scalar effective index method (SEIM) and consider chromatic dispersion of HPCF for having air hole diameter 1.0 micro.m, and pitch 2.0 micro.m. The maximum pitch can be consider as 5.0 micro.m and air hole diameter is 9.0 micro.m. Transparent boundary condition (TBC) is proposed here for the calculation of Refractive index of HPCF

Elastic-plastic Transition of Transversely Isotropic Thick-walled Rotating Cylinder under Internal Pressure

    Get PDF
Elastic-plastic stresses for a transversely isotropic thick-walled rotating cylinder under internal pressure have been obtained by using Seth’s transition theory. It has been observed that a thick-walled circular cylinder made of isotropic material yields at the internal surface at a high pressure as compared to cylinder made of transversely isotropic material. With the increase in angular speed, much less pressure is required for initial yielding at the internal surface for transversely isotropic material as compared to isotropic material. For fullyplastic state, circumferential stress is maximum at the external surface. Thick-walled circular cylinder made of transversely isotropic material requires high percentage increase in pressure to become fully plastic as compared to isotropic cylinder. Therefore, circular cylinder made of transversely isotropic material is on the safer side of the design as compared to cylinder made of  isotropic material.Defence Science Journal, 2009, 59(3), pp.260-264, DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.14429/dsj.59.151

Ensemble Boosted Tree based Mammogram image classification using Texture features and extracted smart features of Deep Neural Network

/n This work proposes a technique of breast cancer detection from mammogram images. It is a multistage process which classifies the mammogram images into benign or malignant category. During preprocessing, images of Mammographic Image Analysis Society (MIAS) database are passed through a couple of filters for noise removal, thresholding and cropping techniques to extract the region of interest, followed by augmentation process on database to enhance its size. Features from Deep Convolution Neural Network (DCNN) are merged with texture features to form final feature vector. Using transfer learning, deep features are extracted from a modified DCNN, whose training is performed on 69% of randomly selected images of database from both categories. Features of Grey Level Co-Occurrence Matrix (GLCM) and Local Binary Pattern (LBP) are merged to form texture features. Mean and variance of four parameters (contrast, correlation, homogeneity and entropy) of GLCM are computed in four angular directions, at ten distances. Ensemble Boosted Tree classifier using five-fold cross-validation mode, achieved an accuracy, sensitivity, specificity of 98.8%, 100% and 92.55% respectively on this feature vector

Meander Line EBG Based Multiband Antenna for WLAN and WiMAX application

There have been many investigations in the past regarding the design of multi- band antennas. A multiband antenna is the one in which the same antenna can be operated at different frequencies. There have been many approaches towards the design of the multiband antenna like stacked patches, parasitic patches, use of slots, shaping i.e., the use of notches, reactive loading, slot loaded patches etc. The use of slots is an easier approach towards the design of multiband an- tenna as there is a well defined theoretical approach towards the design of the slot antennas. These slots can be cut either in the patch or in the ground plane as needed for the application. Higher gain is an important requirement for an antenna and use of Electromagnetic Band-Gap structures(EBG) is one of the promising technique to achieve this. The present thesis work focuses on the design of multiband antenna as well as novel Electromagnetic Band-Gap structures and their integration for enhance- ment of the gain of the antenna at desired frequencies of operation. The multi- band antenna is designed by cutting slots in the ground plane and the Uniplanar EBG is employed for the gain enhancement. The Fractalized Meander Line EBG based Microstrip Patch Slot Antenna oper- ates in the 6-7 GHz (Extended C-Band) and has a fractional bandwidth of 13% , and it maintains the radiation characteristics in the desired band with gain rang- ing from 5.5 to 7 dB. The Meander Line EBG based Multiband Antenna operates in the WLAN and WiMAX bands at frequencies 2.4, 3.6, 5.2 GHz respectively having gain 3.5 , 4.2 and 6.19 d
