Background and Objective:Given that the current century is associated with innovation, speed and advances in information technology and knowledge transfer, the new generation is looking for ways to keep up with these changes. Therefore, improvements should be made in the content and method of learning. One of the new educational methods is education with technology. Technology is a tool created by human knowledge to produce, solve, and meet needs or wants with resources. Therefore, educational technology can be considered as the use of technology to create and manage technological resources and processes to improve educational performance with the aim of motivating and encouraging students to learn and facilitate the educational process. The present study was aimed at the meta-analysis and synthesis of the results of research on the impact of the use of technology in mathematical education considering the rapid progress of ICT in the present age and, consequently, the significant increase in studies on the impact of technology on the effectiveness of education. Methods:The statistical community is a research that studies the impact of using technology in advancing the goals of mathematical education and with the review of the history, 19 studies were found in this field. Findings:  The research findings showed that the use of technology at 0.38 of variable variance predicts the achievement of the goals of mathematical education, so if technology can be fully integrated into teaching methods, it can be as an effective tool to improve students' learning in mathematics, therefore, considering the effectiveness of using technology in mathematical education, it is essential that the mathematical curriculum be formulated to bring content with a combination of technology. Conclusion: The aim of this study was to integrate the results obtained regarding the effect of using technology in advancing the goals of mathematics education by meta-analysis. The independent variables of this research include: educational software, computer games, multimedia, graphic images and computer use; dependent variables were: learning, self-efficacy, academic motivation, performance, executive functions, progress, self-regulation, memorization, attitude and participation in math lessons. Due to the correlation between the use of technology and the advancement of the goals of mathematics education, it is recommended that educational planners take the necessary care in compiling textbooks accordingly, and teachers' teaching methods should be in line with this issue and modified by using new technologies.   ===================================================================================== COPYRIGHTS  ©2019 The author(s). Background and Objective:Vocational technical education plays an important role in developing productive employment, improving the business environment, making the best use of opportunities and increasing efficiency in the community economy. Therefore, after acquiring specialized knowledge and skills in various fields, people can work in suitable jobs and as an entrepreneur meet the main needs of the country in the priority of expanding training and technical skills. One of the most important parts of any country's education system is the program of the vocational technical education system. Paying attention to it is one of the basic policies of the countries for training efficient human resources at the pre-university level. On the other hand, the important role of technical and vocational education in achieving economic, social and individual goals is not far from the scope of research. Since the late establishment of training organizations of interns and expert specialists in the country's technical and vocational fields, it has become necessary to indicative this issue as the main need of the developing society of Iran. Therefore, by assessing the need for professional technical community in the country, and to provide efficient manpower, the present situation has been addressed. Taking into account the factors consistent with strategic goals and international engagements (such as ISESCO & UNEVOC in the United Nations), it is necessary to develop to improve the current situation. Methods: The methodology of this research is to investigate the professional technical education ability in Iran and to collect documents related to the goals and activities of strategy originators and implementers; to explain the amount of attention and sensitivity of the researches conducted during recent years. The research tool has analyzed in development of vocational education. Findings:The research achievement is a suitable way to improve the process of professional technical education in Iran. The most important factors of efficiency include attention to the Attraction and employment status by 21%, the necessity to change the education system by 13% and finaly; the teaching-learning process by 8.5%, were alongside with other factors. Conclusion: A review of the research process related to technical and vocational training during the years 2009 to 2017 in recent years shows that the research priorities based on the current conditions of the technical and vocational community, respectively, are: providing solutions, input and output factors, comparative studies, the need to review and transform the modeling with global goals, review the employment status and student recruitment, students' personality traits, provide a standard model of performance appraisal, educational environment, review of technical and professional books, trends Students, internal variables affecting performance, examining students' tendency to technical-vocational education and finally barriers to the development of technical-vocational education.   ===================================================================================== COPYRIGHTS  ©2019 The author(s). Therapeutic resistance remains the principal problem in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We used area under receiver-operating characteristic curves (AUCs) to quantify our ability to predict therapeutic resistance in individual patients, where AUC=1.0 denotes perfect prediction and AUC=0.5 denotes a coin flip, using data from 4601 patients with newly diagnosed AML given induction therapy with 3+7 or more intense standard regimens in UK Medical Research Council/National Cancer Research Institute, Dutch–Belgian Cooperative Trial Group for Hematology/Oncology/Swiss Group for Clinical Cancer Research, US cooperative group SWOG and MD Anderson Cancer Center studies. Age, performance status, white blood cell count, secondary disease, cytogenetic risk and FLT3-ITD/NPM1 mutation status were each independently associated with failure to achieve complete remission despite no early death (‘primary refractoriness’). However, the AUC of a bootstrap-corrected multivariable model predicting this outcome was only 0.78, indicating only fair predictive ability. Removal of FLT3-ITD and NPM1 information only slightly decreased the AUC (0.76). Prediction of resistance, defined as primary refractoriness or short relapse-free survival, was even more difficult. Our limited ability to forecast resistance based on routinely available pretreatment covariates provides a rationale for continued randomization between standard and new therapies and supports further examination of genetic and posttreatment data to optimize resistance prediction in AML

Regulation of Autophagy via Carbohydrate and Lipid Metabolism in Cancer

Metabolic changes are an important component of tumor cell progression. Tumor cells adapt to environmental stresses via changes to carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. Autophagy, a physiological process in mammalian cells that digests damaged organelles and misfolded proteins via lysosomal degradation, is closely associated with metabolism in mammalian cells, acting as a meter of cellular ATP levels. In this review, we discuss the changes in glycolytic and lipid biosynthetic pathways in mammalian cells and their impact on carcinogenesis via the autophagy pathway. In addition, we discuss the impact of these metabolic pathways on autophagy in lung cancer. This work was supported by the CancerCare Manitoba Operating grant (763117252) funded by CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, a Vanier CIHR Ph.D. studentship, and the Max Rady College of Medicine’s BSc (Med) program

Clinical features of De Novo acute myeloid leukemia with concurrent DNMT3A, FLT3 and NPM1 mutations

BACKGROUND: De novo acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with concurrent DNMT3A, FLT3 and NPM1 mutations (AML(DNMT3A/FLT3/NPM1)) has been suggested to represent a unique AML subset on the basis of integrative genomic analysis, but the clinical features of such patients have not been characterized systematically. METHODS: We assessed the features of patients (n = 178) harboring mutations in DNMT3A, FLT3 and/or NPM1, including an index group of AML(DNMT3A/FLT3/NPM1) patients. RESULTS: Patients with AML(DNMT3A/FLT3/NPM1) (n = 35) were significantly younger (median, 56.0 vs. 62.0 years; p = 0.025), mostly women (65.7% vs. 46.9%; p = 0.045), and presented with a higher percentage of bone marrow blasts (p < 0.001) and normal cytogenetics (p = 0.024) in comparison to patients within other mutation groups in this study. Among patients <60 years old, those with AML(DNMT3A/FLT3/NPM1) had a shorter event-free survival (EFS) (p = 0.047). DNMT3A mutations and not FLT3 or NPM1 mutations were independently associated with overall survival (OS) (p = 0.026). Within mutation subgroups, patients with AML(DNMT3A/NPM1) had a significantly shorter OS compared to those with AML(FLT3-ITD/NPM1) (p = 0.047) suggesting that the adverse impact of DNMT3A mutations is more pronounced than that of FLT3-ITD among patients with NPM1 mutation. CONCLUSIONS: DNMT3A has a significant dominant effect on the clinical features and outcomes of de novo AML patients with concurrent DNMT3A, FLT3 and NPM1 mutations. Combinatorial epigenetic therapy in diffuse large B cell lymphoma pre-clinical models and patients

BACKGROUND: Refractory and/or relapsed diffuse large B cell lymphoma (RR-DLBCL) patients are incurable with conventional chemotherapy due to the aggressiveness and the chemorefractory state of these tumors. DNA hypermethylation and histone deacetylation are two major epigenetic modifications by which aggressive DLBCL maintain their oncogenic state. We have previously reported that DNA methyltransferase inhibitors (DNMTI) affect RR-DLBCL growth and improve chemosensitivity. Here, we hypothesized that the combination of DNMTI with histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDI) would be an active and feasible therapeutic strategy in RR-DLBCL. Thus, we evaluated the anti-lymphoma activity of the HDI vorinostat (VST) in combination with the DNMTI azacitidine (AZA) or decitabine (DAC) in pre-clinical models of RR-DLBCL, and we determined the feasibility of the combination by conducting a phase Ib trial in RR-DLBCL patients. RESULTS: Concurrent combination of DNMTI and HDI resulted in synergistic anti-lymphoma effect toward RR-DLBCL cells in vitro and in vivo, with no significant toxicity increase. In a phase Ib trial, a total of 18 patients with a median of three prior therapies were treated with four different dose levels of AZA and VST. The most common toxicities were hematological, followed by gastrointestinal and metabolic. The clinical benefit was low as only one subject had a partial response and three subjects had stable disease. Interestingly, two of the seven patients that received additional chemotherapy post-study achieved a complete response and three others had a significant clinical benefit. These observations suggested that the combination might have a delayed chemosensitization effect that we were able to confirm by using in vitro and in vivo models. These studies also demonstrated that the addition of VST does not improve the chemosensitizing effect of DAC alone. CONCLUSIONS: Our data supports the strategy of epigenetic priming by employing DNMTI in RR-DLBCL patients in order to overcome resistance and improve their outcomes.
