    Comparative Experimental Study on Torsional Behavior of RC Beam Using CFRP and GFRP Fabric Wrapping

    AbstractFiber reinforced polymer (FRP) as an external reinforcement is used extensively to enhance the strength requirement related to flexure and shear in structural systems. But the strengthening of members subjected to torsion is yet to be explored as Torsion failure is a brittle form of failure. In present experimental study deals with the torsional strengthening of Reinforced Concrete beams using epoxy bonded Fiber- Reinforced Polymer (FRP) fabric. Total Thirty nine rectangular beams of size 150mm × 300mm and 1200 in length are casted. Out of which, three beams are control beam and remaining thirty six beams are classified into two groups. One with CFRP fabric wrapping and another with GFRP fabric wrapping. With various wrapping patterns. The applied CFRP and GFRP configurations are U-jacketed, vertical strips with spacing, and edge strips along with vertical strips along its entire length. Torsional capacity of beams of two groups is compared with control specimen with respect to torsional moment, angle of twist and ductility factor and it was observed that CFRP fabric bonded beam shows more torsional strength than the GFRP bonded beam

    The black bone disease: a case report of ochronotic hip arthropathy

    Ochronotic arthropathy is a rare complication in patients with alkaptonuria (AKU) that arises as a result of accumulation of ochronotic pigment in the joints. This case report presented a 70-year-old female patient with chronic pain in B/L knee and right hip with decreased e range of motion. The physical and radiographic findings were agreeable with end-stage hip osteoarthritis and knee osteoarthritis. The diagnosis was done by finding of a dark capsule and femoral head during the total hip replacement. The surgical treatments significantly minimized and enhanced the range of motion (ROM). AKU normally emerges after age 40 and is normally asymptomatic till the involvement of the spine, hip, knee and shoulder joints. Therefore, orthopedic surgeons must be observant of clinical manifestations of this rare condition, before and during the surgery. Arthroplasty is an appropriate therapeutic recourse for patients suffering from ochronotic arthropathy

    PLANTAR FASCIITIS TREATMENT WITH PLATELET-RICH PLASMA INJECTION VERSUS STEROID INJECTION

    Objective: Plantar fasciitis is characterized by heel pain that worsens when you bear weight after a long period of rest. Injections of steroids are one of the numerous therapeutic techniques that are frequently used to control plantar fasciitis. Numerous studies demonstrate that short-term pain alleviation with steroid injections is not long-lasting. According to recent studies, autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections encourage healing, which improves both short- and long-term pain alleviation. To compare the effects of local PRP injection and corticosteroid in the management of chronic plantar fasciitis, the current study was conducted. Methods: Sixty patients who met the criteria for this prospective double-blind trial were randomly assigned to one of two groups. Patients in Group I received an injection of steroid, whereas those in Group II received an injection of PRPs. The PNS numerical pain score (NPS) and a visual analog scale (VAS) were used to evaluate the patients. An evaluation was conducted before the injection as well as at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months after the injection. Results: The mean VAS in Group I reduced from 7.00 before injection to 2.31 and that in Group II decreased from 7.81 before injection to 1.12. At the 6-month follow-up, the mean NPS score in Group I increased from 7.05 to 1.41 and in Group II from 7.86 to 1.02. The VAS and NPS improvements were statistically significant. In both groups, the plantar fascia thickness had decreased at the conclusion of the 6-month follow-up period (5.88 mm in Group I to 4.03 mm and 5.96 mm to 3.27mm in Group II), and the difference was statistically significant. Conclusion: When compared to steroid injection, local PRP injection is an excellent therapeutic option for persistent plantar fasciitis with long-lasting positive effects

    In the high speed optical communication, the requirement of designing the new optical transceivers is quite challenging due to the bandwidth, noise and environmental conditions for designing the optical transceivers. The optical transceivers design is also challenging because of weak optical signal at the frond-end amplifier. In this paper, the optical transceivers via an optical preamplifier for optical wireless communication is designed. The designed system offers the improved performance in terms of bandwidth and gain compared to existing optical transceivers. It is defined that using the designed system, a high bandwidth of 2.114GHz at 29.72dB gain is achieved.     Yield losses due to powdery mildew disease in fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.)

    A field experiment was conducted at Hisar during winter (rabi) of 1998-99 and 1999-2000 to assess the reduction in growth and yield parameters of two susceptible fenugreek: (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) varieties (HM 65 and T 8) due to powdery mildew disease caused by Erysiphe polygoni DC. and Leveillula taurica (Lev.) Arnaud. The disease had no significant effect on plant height and number of branches even at more than 80 per cent disease intensity. However, more than 60 per cent disease intensity significantly reduced the number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod and test weight. Reductions of 22.8-25.6, 16.2-18.8 and 14.3-17.2 per cent pods per plant, seeds per pod and test weight, respectively were recorded in both the varieties when disease intensity was more than 80 per cent. &nbsp

    Phyto-mediated Synthesis of Copper Nanoparticles by Cassia auriculata and its Characterization with reference to E-waste Management

    An eco-friendly loom has been taking up in the present study to synthesize copper nanoparticles using Cassia auriculata. The leaf extract of Cassia auriculata acts as reducing as well as capping agent. Synthesis of copper nanoparticles was initially confirmed by the visual observation i.e color change (dark green color). The synthesized copper nanoparticles were primarily characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Further, the formation of amorphous and crystalline phase was analyzed by X-Ray Diffraction pattern. The size and morphology of the synthesized Copper nanoparticles was characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and the elemental composition was analyzed by EDAX. The present study is a preliminary investigation to know about the capability of Cassia auriculata to synthesize copper nanoparticles from its salts. The results of the present study confirmed that the leaf extract of Cassia auriculata be capable of recovering copper from printed circuit boards in the form of nanoparticles in near future
