    Patient’s Knowledge and Use of Oral Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs in a Rheumatology Clinic

    Introduction We evaluated the knowledge of non-steroidal antiinflammatorydrugs (NSAIDs) including their dosage, side effects,contraindications, and drug interactions among the patients in anoutpatient rheumatology clinic. Methods Patients in a rheumatology clinic completed a short surveyassessing their knowledge of over-the-counter NSAIDs. Results The survey was provided to 400 participants and 275(68.5%) were using over-the-counter (OTC) NSAIDs. The majorityof the participants identified their commonly used NSAID. Almost athird were unaware of the contraindication of NSAIDs such as pepticulcer disease, chronic kidney disease, and hypertension. Nearly 53.9%participants denied having any discussion of OTC medications withtheir providers. Two-thirds of the respondents reported seeing onlythe medication packaging for the dose determination (67.8%). Conclusions The gap in patient knowledge of the potential sideeffects and the lack of discussion of OTC medications by the providersmay be predisposing the patients to preventable side effects fromNSAIDs

    Regeneration of Plantlets from various Explants of Tetraploid watermelon

    Micropropagation of tetraploid watermelon is important to cope with high cost of seed. Seeds of tetraploid watermelon were grown in vitro to raise seedlings. Hypocotyl and cotyledonary explants and media supplemented with plant growth regulators (BAP and NAA) was explored for callus induction and organogenesis. Data was collected for callus, shoot and root induction. Maximum callus induction was observed at BAP 5 mgL-1 (76.66%) from cotyledon and (73.33%) from hypocotyls explant. The callus induced from different explants was sub-cultured on the shoot regeneration medium. Higher shoot induction (96.66%) was observed  from cotyledon and hypocotyl explant (76.66%) on MS + 1.0 mgL-1 BAP + 0.2 mgL-1 NAA with maximum number (6.3) of shoot per explant and average shoot length 4.5 cm. Among different types (NAA and IAA) and concentrations (0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.7, 1.0 mgL-1) of auxins investigated for root induction, maximum frequency of rooting was observed in 0.1 mgL-1 NAA while no root formation was observed at higher levels of auxin (1.0 mgL-1). Similarly in case of number of roots per shoot maximum root (4.3) was obtained on MS medium supplemented with 0.1 mgL-1 NAA. Key Words: Regeneration, Explant, Tetraploid, Water Mello

    Genome-wide association for heat tolerance at seedling stage in historical spring wheat cultivars

    Increasing global temperature has adverse effects on crop health and productivity at both seedling and reproductivity stages. It is paramount to develop heat tolerant wheat cultivars able to sustain under high and fluctuating temperature conditions. An experiment was conducted to characterize 194 historical wheat cultivars of Pakistan under high temperature at seedling stage to identify loci associated with heat tolerance using genome-wide association studies (GWAS). A quantitative trait locus, TaHST1, on chr4A was also characterized to identify the haplotypes at this locus associated with heat tolerance in wheat from Pakistan. Initially, the diversity panel was planted under control conditions (25°C/20°C day and night temperature) in a glass house. At three leaf stage, plants were subjected to heat stress (HS) by increasing temperature (40°C/35°C day and night), while one treatment was kept at control condition. After 7 days of HS, data were collected for seedling morphology. Heat stress reduced these traits by 25% (root weight) to 40% (shoot weight), and shoot biomass was largely affected by heat stress. A GWAS model, fixed and random model circulating probability unification (FarmCPU), identified 43 quantitative trait nucleotides (QTNs) on all chromosomes, except chr7B, were associated under both HS and control conditions. Thirteen QTNs were identified in control, while 30 QTNs were identified in HS condition. In total, 24 haplotypes were identified at TaHST1 locus, and most of the heat tolerant genotypes were assigned to Hap-20 and Hap-21. Eleven QTNs were identified within 0.3–3.1 Mb proximity of heat shock protein (HSP). Conclusively, this study provided a detailed genetic framework of heat tolerance in wheat at the seedling stage and identify potential genetic regions associated with heat tolerance which can be used for marker assisted selection (MAS) in breeding for heat stress tolerance

    Employee-fit and Turnover Intentions: The Role of Job Engagement and Psychological Contract Violation in the Hospitality Industry

    The primary goal of this study is to develop and test a comprehensive model concerning the association between employee-fit and turnover intention (TI) in the hospitality industry. A multi-wave survey was conducted in the metropolitan cities of Pakistan to collect data from 362 frontline hotel industry employees. The findings reveal that person-organization (P–O) fit and person-job (P-J) fit are negatively associated with employee TI in the hospitality industry, while employee engagement plays the underlying mediating role in these relationships. In addition, the psychological contract violation (PCV) has been found as a boundary condition to our proposed linear relationships such that the indirect effects of P–O fit and P-J fit on employee TI are weaker for the employees having high PCV. Theoretical and practical implications for the hospitality industry as well as limitations and future research directions have been discussed

    Economic Interactions among Stock Market Performance and Macroeconomic Variables with Mediating Role of Gold Prices Volatilities: An Evidence from Pakistan

    In all emerging economies, one of the most challenging issues for investors is the multifaceted inter-relationship between volatility of gold prices and stock market index. During the COVID-19 sub-periods, gold has shown a strong hedging behavior against stock market performance. The main objective of this study was to quantify the long-run relationship among multiple independent macroeconomic variables (predictors) on stock market index (response variable) using the volatilities of gold prices as a mediator factor. This study applied the descriptive statistics, correlation, t-test and OLS multiple regression Model. The specific data comprised of period 2011-2020 regarding the fluctuations in gold prices, exchange rate, interest rate, inflation rate and performance of stock market index has been utilized. The statistical outputs of models showed that exchange rate (Dollar to PKR) was positively affecting the performance of Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE)-100 Index, whereas inflation rate and interest rate were negatively affecting the overall performance of KSE100 index. The findings of this study suggested that to achieve better performance of stock market, relatively low interest rate and inflation rate contribute a significant role. However, to increase the generalization capabilities of this study the impact of mentioned macroeconomic variables in other sectors like industrial production, oil & gas and energy sectors with wider time span can be more helpful

    Recognizing Brain Tumors Using Adaptive Noise Filtering and Statistical Features

    The human brain, primarily composed of white blood cells, is centered on the neurological system. Incorrectly positioned cells in the immune system, blood vessels, endocrine, glial, axon, and other cancer-causing tissues, can assemble to create a brain tumor. It is currently impossible to find cancer physically and make a diagnosis. The tumor can be found and recognized using the MRI-programmed division method. It takes a powerful segmentation technique to produce accurate output. This study examines a brain MRI scan and uses a technique to obtain a more precise image of the tumor-affected area. The critical aspects of the proposed method are the utilization of noisy MRI brain images, anisotropic noise removal filtering, segmentation with an SVM classifier, and isolation of the adjacent region from the normal morphological processes. Accurate brain MRI imaging is the primary goal of this strategy. The divided section of the cancer is placed on the actual image of a particular culture, but that is by no means the last step. The tumor is located by categorizing the pixel brightness in the filtered image. According to test findings, the SVM could partition data with 98% accuracy
