    Results of a study of the stability of cointegrating relations comprised of broad monetary aggregates

    There is strong evidence of a stable “money demand” relationship for MZM and M2 through the 1990s. Though the M2 relationship breaks down somewhere around 1990, evidence has been accumulating that the disturbance is well characterized as a permanent upward shift in M2 velocity that began around 1990 and was largely over by 1994. This paper’s results support the hypothesis that households permanently reallocated a portion of their wealth from time deposits to mutual funds. This reallocation may have been induced by depository restructuring, but it could also be explained by appropriately measured opportunity cost.Demand for money

    Content-Based Video Description for Automatic Video Genre Categorization

    International audienceIn this paper, we propose an audio-visual approach to video genre categorization. Audio information is extracted at block-level, which has the advantage of capturing local temporal information. At temporal structural level, we asses action contents with respect to human perception. Further, color perception is quantified with statistics of color distribution, elementary hues, color properties and relationship of color. The last category of descriptors determines statistics of contour geometry. An extensive evaluation of this multi-modal approach based on more than 91 hours of video footage is presented. We obtain average precision and recall ratios within [87% − 100%] and [77% − 100%], respectively,nwhile average correct classification is up to 97%. Additionally, movies displayed according to feature-based coordinates in a virtual 3D browsing environment tend to regroup with respect to genre, which has potential application with real content-based browsing systems

    Influence of Tool Geometry and Process Parameters on the Properties of Friction Stir Spot Welded Multiple (AA 5754 H111) Aluminium Sheets.

    Friction stir spot welding is an emerging spot-welding technology that offers opportunities for joining a wide range of materials with minimum energy consumption. To increase productivity, the present work addresses production challenges and aims to find solutions for the lap-welding of multiple ultrathin sheets with maximum productivity. Two convex tools with different edge radii were used to weld four ultrathin sheets of AA5754-H111 alloy each with 0.3 mm thickness. To understand the influence of tool geometries and process parameters, coefficient of friction (CoF), microstructure and mechanical properties obtained with the Vickers microhardness test and the small punch test were analysed. A scanning acoustic microscope was used to assess weld quality. It was found that the increase of tool radius from 15 to 22.5 mm reduced the dwell time by a factor of three. Samples welded with a specific tool were seen to have no delamination and improved mechanical properties due to longer stirring time. The rotational speed was found to be the most influential parameter in governing the weld shape, CoF, microstructure, microhardness and weld efficiency. Low rotational speeds caused a 14.4% and 12.8% improvement in joint efficiency compared to high rotational speeds for both tools used in this investigation

    Assessing the effect of organic residue quality on active decomposing fungi in a tropical Vertisol using 15N-DNA stable isotope probing

    15N-DNA stable isotope probing (15N-DNA-SIP) combined with 18S rRNA gene-based community analysis was used to identify active fungi involved in decomposition of 15N-labeled maize and soybean litter in a tropical Vertisol. Phylogenetic analysis of 15N-labeled DNA subjected to 18S rRNA gene-based community fingerprinting showed that organic residue quality promoted either slow (i.e. Penicillium sp., Aspergillus sp.) or fast growing (i.e. Fusarium sp., Mortierella sp.) fungal decomposers in soils treated with maize or soybean residues, respectively, whereas Chaetomium sp. were found as dominant decomposers in both residue treatments. Therefore, we have clear evidence that specific members of the fungal community used 15N derived from the two different organic resources for growth and stimulated early decomposition of maize or soybean decomposition. In conclusion, our study showed that 15N-DNA-SIP-based community analyses cannot only follow the flow of N from organic resources into bacteria, but also into the actively decomposing fungal communities of soils

    FAIR data retrieval for sensitive clinical research data in Galaxy

    Background: In clinical research, data have to be accessible and reproducible, but the generated data are becoming larger and analysis complex. Here we propose a platform for Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) data access and creating reproducible findings. Standardized access to a major genomic repository, the European Genome-Phenome Archive (EGA), has been achieved with API services like PyEGA3. We aim to provide a FAIR data analysis service in Galaxy by retrieving genomic data from the EGA and provide a generalized “omics” platform for FAIR data analysis. Results: To demonstrate this, we implemented an end-to-end Galaxy workflow to replicate the findings from an RD-Connect synthetic dataset Beyond the 1 Million Genomes (synB1MG) available from the EGA. We developed the PyEGA3 connector within Galaxy to easily download multiple datasets from the EGA. We added the gene.iobio tool, a diagnostic environment for precision genomics, to Galaxy and demonstrate that it provides a more dynamic and interpretable view for trio analysis results. We developed a Galaxy trio analysis workflow to determine the pathogenic variants from the synB1MG trios using the GEMINI and gene.iobio tool. The complete workflow is available at WorkflowHub, and an associated tutorial was created in the Galaxy Training Network, which helps researchers unfamiliar with Galaxy to run the workflow. Conclusions: We showed the feasibility of reusing data from the EGA in Galaxy via PyEGA3 and validated the workflow by rediscovering spiked-in variants in synthetic data. Finally, we improved existing tools in Galaxy and created a workflow for trio analysis to demonstrate the value of FAIR genomics analysis in Galaxy.</p

    Use of Drawings to Explore US Women's Perspectives on Why People Might Decline HIV Testing

    The purpose of this research is to explore through drawings and verbal descriptions women's perspectives about reasons why persons might decline human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) testing. We asked 30 participants to draw a person that would NOT get tested for HIV and then explain drawings. Using qualitative content analysis, we extracted seven themes. We found apprehension about knowing the result of an HIV test to be the most commonly identified theme in women's explanations of those who would not get tested. This technique was well received and its use is extended to HIV issues

    Hydronephrosis Resulting from Bilateral Ureteral Stenosis: A Late Complication of Polyoma BK Virus Cystitis?

    We report here a case of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in remission presenting a late-onset bilateral hydronephrosis probably due to polyoma BK virus-induced proliferation of bladder endothelium on both ostii. The diagnosis was made virologically by BK virus Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) detection in the absence of any other bladder disease. Awareness of this late complication is necessary not only in patients after renal transplantation but also in patients after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation from matched unrelated donor
