    An empirical study on influencers and their engagement factors: The YouTubers' perspective

    The current marketing arena is witnessing that the use of influencers or third-party content-generators is an efficient practice. Adding the fact that one of the arising-stars platforms in the social media spectrum is YouTube, the current research aims to understand how YouTube influencers can contribute to the process of customer engagement. The present research methodology is based on a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews of 22 female Youtubers devoted to the lifestyle categories. The questionnaire was built upon existing literature, aiming to understand what are the engagement factors that influencers should rely on to promote engagement from followers with the focal advertised object (i.e., product, brand). But this time from the Youtubers perspective. From the development of this study, a set of customer engagement factors arise. Based on the results we can claim that having an informal relationship with brands, presenting different content from others in the industry, or having a well-connected relationship with followers are engagement factors that contribute to customer engagement.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Crown ether benzoxazolyl-alanines as fluorimetric chemosensors for the detection of palladium in aqueous environment

    Palladium (Pd) is a widely applied transition metal, for example in dental restorations, chemical catalysts, jewellery, electronic equipment, automobile industry, among others. As a consequence of its wide application, high levels of palladium in the environment have been reported, representing a risk to human health. So far, a variety of small fluorescence probes have been successfully developed for palladium detection, but there is an interest to design improved water-soluble probes for recognition of this metal in biological and environmental systems. Considering the research group´s experience on fluorescent chemosensors based on unnatural amino acid derivatives containing heterocyclic fluorescent and/or coordination units at the side chain,8,9,10,11 we report herein the evaluation of two benzoxazolyl-alanine derivatives bearing a crown ether moiety as potential fluorimetric chemosensors for palladium detection in aqueous media. Preliminary chemosensory studies for these unnatural amino acids in the presence of selected metal cations, with biological and environmental relevance, were performed in acetonitrile solution and in aqueous mixtures of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS, 20 mM, pH 7.5) solution with acetonitrile, 90:10 v/v.     Optical and photovoltaic properties of thieno[3,2-b]thiophene-based push–pull organic dyes with different anchoring groups for dye-sensitized solar cells

    The effect of anchoring groups on the optical and electrochemical properties of triphenylamine-thienothiophenes, and on the photovoltaic performance of DSSCs photosensitized with the prepared dyes, was studied using newly synthesized compounds with cyanoacetic acid or rhodanine-3-acetic acid groups. Precursor aldehydes were synthesized through Suzuki cross-coupling, whereas Knoevenagel condensation of these with 2-cyanoacetic acid or rhodanine-3-acetic acid afforded the final push–pull dyes. A comprehensive photophysical study was performed in solution and in the solid state. The femtosecond time-resolved transient absorption spectra for the synthesized dyes were obtained following photoexcitation in solution and for the dyes adsorbed to TiO2 mesoporous films. Information on conformation, electronic structure, and electron distribution was obtained by density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT calculations. Triphenylamine–thienothiophene functionalized with a cyanoacetic acid anchoring group displayed the highest conversion efficiency (3.68%) as the dye sensitizer in nanocrystalline TiO2 solar cells. Coadsorption studies were performed for this dye with the ruthenium-based N719 dye, and they showed dye power conversion efficiencies enhanced by 20–64%. The best cell performance obtained with the coadsorbed N719 and cyanoacetic dye showed an efficiency of 6.05%.The authors thank Fundacao para a Ciencia e Tecnologia (FCT) for PhD grants to S.S.M.F.     Equilibrium random-field Ising critical scattering in the antiferromagnet Fe(0.93)Zn(0.07)F2

    It has long been believed that equilibrium random-field Ising model (RFIM) critical scattering studies are not feasible in dilute antiferromagnets close to and below Tc(H) because of severe non-equilibrium effects. The high magnetic concentration Ising antiferromagnet Fe(0.93)Zn(0.07)F2, however, does provide equilibrium behavior. We have employed scaling techniques to extract the universal equilibrium scattering line shape, critical exponents nu = 0.87 +- 0.07 and eta = 0.20 +- 0.05, and amplitude ratios of this RFIM system.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, minor revision

Copyright @ 2011 Taylor & Francis.Metals are of particular importance in relation to water quality, and concern regarding the impact of these contaminants on biodiversity is being encapsulated within the latest water-related legislation such as the Water Framework Directive in Europe and criteria revisions to the Clean Water Act in the United States. This review undertakes an evaluation of the potential of 2-stage wastewater treatment consisting of primary sedimentation and biological treatment in the form of activated sludge processes, to meet more stringent discharge consents that are likely to be introduced as a consequence. The legislation, sources of metals, and mechanisms responsible for their removal are discussed, to elucidate possible pathways by which the performance of conventional processes may be optimized or enhanced. Improvements in effluent quality, achievable by reducing concentrations of suspended solids or biochemical oxygen demand, may also reduce metal concentrations although meeting possible requirements for the removal of copper my be challenging

    Development and application of a mechanistic nutrient-based model for precision fish farming

    This manuscript describes and evaluates the FEEDNETICS model, a detailed mechanistic nutrient-based model that has been developed to be used as a data interpretation and decisionsupport tool by fish farmers, aquafeed producers, aquaculture consultants and researchers. The modelling framework comprises two main components: (i) fish model, that simulates at the individual level the fish growth, composition, and nutrient utilization, following basic physical principles and prior information on the organization and control of biochemical/metabolic processes; and (ii) farm model, that upscales all information to the population level. The model was calibrated and validated for five commercially relevant farmed fish species, i.e., gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata), European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax), Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), and Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), using data sets covering a wide range of rearing and feeding conditions. The results of the validation of the model for fish growth are consistent between species, presenting a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) between 11.7 and 13.8%. Several uses cases are presented, illustrating how this tool can be used to complement experimental trial design and interpretation, and to evaluate nutritional and environmental effects at the farm level.     Caveolin-1 and -2 in airway epithelium: expression and in situ association as detected by FRET-CLSM

    BACKGROUND: Caveolae are involved in diverse cellular functions such as signal transduction, cholesterol homeostasis, endo- and transcytosis, and also may serve as entry sites for microorganisms. Hence, their occurrence in epithelium of the airways might be expected but, nonetheless, has not yet been examined. METHODS: Western blotting, real-time quantitative PCR analysis of abraded tracheal epithelium and laser-assisted microdissection combined with subsequent mRNA analysis were used to examine the expression of cav-1 and cav-2, two major caveolar coat proteins, in rat tracheal epithelium. Fluorescence immunohistochemistry was performed to locate caveolae and cav-1 and -2 in the airway epithelium of rats, mice and humans. Electron-microscopic analysis was used for the identification of caveolae. CLSM-FRET analysis determined the interaction of cav-1α and cav-2 in situ. RESULTS: Western blotting and laser-assisted microdissection identified protein and transcripts, respectively, of cav-1 and cav-2 in airway epithelium. Real-time quantitative RT-PCR analysis of abraded tracheal epithelium revealed a higher expression of cav-2 than of cav-1. Immunoreactivities for cav-1 and for cav-2 were co-localized in the cell membrane of the basal cells and basolaterally in the ciliated epithelial cells of large airways of rat and human. However, no labeling for cav-1 or cav-2 was observed in the epithelial cells of small bronchi. Using conventional double-labeling indirect immunofluorescence combined with CLSM-FRET analysis, we detected an association of cav-1α and -2 in epithelial cells. The presence of caveolae was confirmed by electron microscopy. In contrast to human and rat, cav-1-immunoreactivity and caveolae were confined to basal cells in mice. Epithelial caveolae were absent in cav-1-deficient mice, implicating a requirement of this caveolar protein in epithelial caveolae formation. CONCLUSION: These results show that caveolae and caveolins are integral membrane components in basal and ciliated epithelial cells, indicating a crucial role in these cell types. In addition to their physiological role, they may be involved in airway infection

    Delocalization and spin-wave dynamics in ferromagnetic chains with long-range correlated random exchange

    We study the one-dimensional quantum Heisenberg ferromagnet with exchange couplings exhibiting long-range correlated disorder with power spectrum proportional to 1/kα1/k^{\alpha}, where kk is the wave-vector of the modulations on the random coupling landscape. By using renormalization group, integration of the equations of motion and exact diagonalization, we compute the spin-wave localization length and the mean-square displacement of the wave-packet. We find that, associated with the emergence of extended spin-waves in the low-energy region for α>1\alpha > 1, the wave-packet mean-square displacement changes from a long-time super-diffusive behavior for α<1\alpha <1 to a long-time ballistic behavior for α>1\alpha > 1. At the vicinity of α=1\alpha =1, the mobility edge separating the extended and localized phases is shown to scale with the degree of correlation as Ec(α1)1/3E_c\propto (\alpha -1)^{1/3}.Comment: PRB to appea
