Attentional Encoder Network for Targeted Sentiment Classification
Targeted sentiment classification aims at determining the sentimental
tendency towards specific targets. Most of the previous approaches model
context and target words with RNN and attention. However, RNNs are difficult to
parallelize and truncated backpropagation through time brings difficulty in
remembering long-term patterns. To address this issue, this paper proposes an
Attentional Encoder Network (AEN) which eschews recurrence and employs
attention based encoders for the modeling between context and target. We raise
the label unreliability issue and introduce label smoothing regularization. We
also apply pre-trained BERT to this task and obtain new state-of-the-art
results. Experiments and analysis demonstrate the effectiveness and lightweight
of our model.Comment: 7 page
Stretchable elastic synaptic transistors for neurologically integrated soft engineering systems
Artificial synaptic devices that can be stretched similar to those appearing in soft-bodied animals, such as earthworms, could be seamlessly integrated onto soft machines toward enabled neurological functions. Here, we report a stretchable synaptic transistor fully based on elastomeric electronic materials, which exhibits a full set of synaptic characteristics. These characteristics retained even the rubbery synapse that is stretched by 50%. By implementing stretchable synaptic transistor with mechanoreceptor in an array format, we developed a deformable sensory skin, where the mechanoreceptors interface the external stimulations and generate presynaptic pulses and then the synaptic transistors render postsynaptic potentials. Furthermore, we demonstrated a soft adaptive neurorobot that is able to perform adaptive locomotion based on robotic memory in a programmable manner upon physically tapping the skin. Our rubbery synaptic transistor and neurologically integrated devices pave the way toward enabled neurological functions in soft machines and other applications
Hierarchical neural topic modeling with manifold regularization
Topic models have been widely used for learning the latent explainable representation of documents, but most of the existing approaches discover topics in a flat structure. In this study, we propose an effective hierarchical neural topic model with strong interpretability. Unlike the previous neural topic models, we explicitly model the dependency between layers of a network, and then combine latent variables of different layers to reconstruct documents. Utilizing this network structure, our model can extract a tree-shaped topic hierarchy with low redundancy and good explainability by exploiting dependency matrices. Furthermore, we introduce manifold regularization into the proposed method to improve the robustness of topic modeling. Experiments on real-world datasets validate that our model outperforms other topic models in several widely used metrics with much fewer computation costs
Social Emotion Classification via Reader Perspective Weighted Model
With the development of Web 2.0, many users express their opinions online. This paper is concerned with the classification of social emotions on varied-scale datasets. Different from traditional models which weight training documents equally, the concept of emotional entropy is proposed to estimate the weight and tackle the issue of noisy documents. The topic assignment is also used to distinguish different emotional senses of the same word. Experimental evaluations using different data sets validate the effectiveness of the proposed social emotion classification model
Cross-Domain Sentiment Classification via Topic-Related TrAdaBoost
Cross-domain sentiment classification aims to tag sentiments for a target domain by labeled data from a source domain. Due to the difference between domains, the accuracy of a trained classifier may be very low. In this paper, we propose a boosting-based learning framework named TR-TrAdaBoost for cross-domain sentiment classification. We firstly explore the topic distribution of documents, and then combine it with the unigram TrAdaBoost. The topic distribution captures the domain information of documents, which is valuable for cross-domain sentiment classification. Experimental results indicate that TR-TrAdaBoost represents documents well and boost the performance and robustness of TrAdaBoost
A multi-relational term scheme for first story detection
First Story Detection (FSD) aims to identify the first story for an emerging event previously unreported, which is essential to practical applications in news analysis, intelligence gathering, and national security. Compared to information retrieval, text clustering, text classification, and other subject-based tasks, FSD is event-based and thus faces the challenging issues of multiple events on the same subject and the evolution of events. To tackle these challenges, several schemes for exploiting temporal information, named entity, and topic modeling, have been proposed for FSD. In this paper, we present a new term weighting scheme called LGT, which jointly models the Local element, Global element, and Topical association of each story. An unsupervised algorithm based on LGT is then devised and applied to FSD. We evaluate 4 feature reduction strategies and test our LGT scheme on an online model. Experiments show that our approach yields better results than existing baseline schemes on both retrospective and online FSD
