Analyzing flow anisotropies with excursion sets in relativistic heavy-ion collisions
We show that flow anisotropies in relativistic heavy-ion collisions can be
analyzed using a certain technique of shape analysis of excursion sets recently
proposed by us for CMBR fluctuations to investigate anisotropic expansion
history of the universe. The technique analyzes shapes (sizes) of patches above
(below) certain threshold value for transverse energy/particle number (the
excursion sets) as a function of the azimuthal angle and rapidity. Modeling
flow by imparting extra anisotropic momentum to the momentum distribution of
particles from HIJING, we compare the resulting distributions for excursion
sets at two different azimuthal angles. Angles with maximum difference in the
two distributions identify the event plane, and the magnitude of difference in
the two distributions relates to the magnitude of momentum anisotropy, i.e.
elliptic flow.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
A single case study to evaluate the applicability of Ayurveda treatment protocol in Otalgia w.s.r. to Kaphaja Karnashoola
Background: Otalgia or ear ache is a symptom which will hamper the daily activities of individual, and a cause of unease or discomfort. Even today there is no specific permanent remedy to this condition in advance modern medical system despite of some Otogesics which will only mask the pain. The common over the Counter medicines available on medical stores are having side effects on continuous usage. So there is a need for safe Ayurvedic medicine which can act better like modern analgesics but fewer side effects. Methodology: In this Case study, Agastya Haritaki Avaleha, Dashamoola Katutraya Kashaya and Capsule Grab, internally and Haridradi Karnadhoopana and Anu Taila Nasya as Sthanika Chikitsa were tried on patient of otalgia with ASOM (Kaphaja Karnashoola) Patient was treated in 2 stages. Observations: It was observed in the present study that in stage 1 there was 50% improvement as compared to stage 2 which showed better results in reducing the symptoms of Otalgia with ASOM. Re-occurrence of symptoms were merely less in stage 2 as compared to stage 1 Conclusion: There is a false assumption that Ayurvedic medicines are slow acting and allopathic medicines are desperately used for pain management and acute conditions. But this study throwing a light to substantiate that, Ayurvedic medicines are potent enough to manage acute otalgia also, just like Otogesics in Modern Medical Science. The study revealed that the re-occurrence rate of symptoms was very less in patients who used Agastya Haritaki Avaleha, Dashamoola Katutraya Kashaya and grab along with Haridradi Karnadhoopana and Anu Taila
A Systematic Study of Research Productivity of the Disciplines in Social Sciences and Humanities: The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.
The purpose of this paper is to explore and provide an overview of the growth and development of research output pertaining to the disciplines covered in Humanities and Social Sciences (SSH), in terms of number of publications, total citations from the year 2001 up to 2020 of The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda(MSU), Vadodara as reflected in Dimensions in various subject domains such as History and Archaeology, Historical Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Archeology, Education, etc. as shown in (Table-1). The main investigation is based on the primary literature, mostly scholarly articles from different subject fields. The authors attempt to employ the quantitative analysis of bibliometric indicators of the research publications which has been accessed from dimensions online indexing data. Dimensions were launched by Digital Science in January 2018, which covers humanities and social sciences. The Research output data of MSU are collected by using different searching facilities provided by Dimensions Database. The Dimensions online indexing data are also providing data of researchers, research categories, publication type, source title, journal list, open access journals along with publication year, which helps the authors to analyze the growth and development of research activity of the faculty members of MSU during the prescribed year. There were 6,354 research publications received with 73789 Citations, with an average citation per paper is 8.05. The data collected on 25th May 2021. The published materials such as articles, Book, Book chapters, review, letter, proceedings paper, biographical-item, book review, editorial material, meeting abstract, Erratum, Note, etc. are considered as research publications for this study. It suggests that Dimensions Database has been used as the data updating is the continuous process of development in humanities and social sciences. The scientiļ¬c processes, as well as the methods for dissemination of information, are very similar within these ļ¬elds. The database chosen is Dimensions, which has the oldest and most comprehensive records of citation indexes and includes a very authentic source in order to get an accurate and consolidated picture of the research output of the university. The findings of the research will be a great concern for various policy-making bodies of The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, such as UGC, NAAC, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), NIRF, Ministry of HRD, etc
An Ayurvedic approach to the management of Shushkakshipaka w.s.r. to Dry Eye Syndrome - A Case Report
Introduction: Sushkakshipaka is one among the Sarvagata, Sadhya Netrarogas described in in classical Ayurveda texts. A feature of Shushkakshipaka includes hard and dry eye lids, found drooping; blurred vision and difficulty to open the eyes with irritation and foreign body sensation. The Lakshanas of Shushkakshipaka can be equated with the signs and symptoms of Dry Eye Syndrome. Dry eye is a multifactorial ocular surface disease characterized by symptoms of discomfort, irritation, and visual disturbance. Here the patient presenting with signs and symptoms of dry eye disease was treated according to the treatment principles of Shushkakshipaka as explained in Ayurvedic classics. Erandamoola Kheera Seka and Shatavari Ghrita was selected for the treatment and the same has been presented in the article. Materials and Methods: The subject who approached Shalakya Tantra OPD of Sri Jayachamarajendra Institute of Indian Medicine Hospital, Bengaluru, with signs and symptoms of dry eye disease was thoroughly examined and systematically reviewed. Treatment was planned based on the Chikitsasutra of Shushkakshipaka. Result: The patient showed considerable improvement subjectively and objectively. Improvement in Schirmerās reading, visual acuity improvement was observed in both eyes. Conclusion: The maintenance of stability of tear film is the main challenge in this pandemic time due to the increased screen time. This can be achieved up to an extend by proper administration of treatment techniques described in classical Ayurveda texts along with Pathyasevana
Thermally Reversible Polymeric Networks from Vegetable Oils
Low cross-link density thermally reversible networks were successfully synthesized from jatropha and sunflower oils. The oils were epoxidized and subsequently reacted with furfurylamine to attach furan groups onto the triglycerides, preferably at the epoxide sites rather than at the ester ones. Under the same reaction conditions, the modified jatropha oil retained the triglyceride structure more efficiently than its sunflower-based counterpart, i.e., the ester aminolysis reaction was less relevant for the jatropha oil. These furan-modified oils were then reacted with mixtures of aliphatic and aromatic bismaleimides, viz. 1,12-bismaleimido dodecane and 1,10-(methylenedi-4,1-phenylene)bismaleimide, resulting in a series of polymers with Tg ranging between 3.6 and 19.8 Ā°C. Changes in the chemical structure and mechanical properties during recurrent thermal cycles suggested that the Diels-Alder and retro-Diels-Alder reactions occurred. However, the reversibility was reduced over the thermal cycles due to several possible causes. There are indications that the maleimide groups were homopolymerized and the Diels-Alder adducts were aromatized, leading to irreversibly cross-linked polymers. Two of the polymers were successfully applied as adhesives without modifications. This result demonstrates one of the potential applications of these polymers
The Effect of Adherence to Dietary Tracking on Weight Loss: Using HLM to Model Weight Loss over Time
The role of dietary tracking on weight loss remains unexplored despite being part of multiple diabetes and weight management programs. Hence, participants of the Diabetes Prevention and Management (DPM) program (12 months, 22 sessions) tracked their food intake for the duration of the study. A scatterplot of days tracked versus total weight loss revealed a nonlinear relationship. Hence, the number of possible tracking days was divided to create the 3 groups of participants: rare trackers (\u3c33% total days tracked), inconsistent trackers (33ā66% total days tracked), and consistent trackers (\u3e66% total days tracked). After controlling for initial body mass index, hemoglobin A1c, and gender, only consistent trackers had significant weight loss (ā9.99 pounds), following a linear relationship with consistent loss throughout the year. In addition, the weight loss trend for the rare and inconsistent trackers followed a nonlinear path, with the holidays slowing weight loss and the onset of summer increasing weight loss. These results show the importance of frequent dietary tracking for consistent long-term weight loss success
Probing the anisotropic expansion history of the universe with cosmic microwave background
We propose a simple technique to detect any anisotropic expansion stage in
the history of the universe starting from the inflationary stage to the surface
of last scattering from the CMBR data. We use the property that any anisotropic
expansion in the universe would deform the shapes of the primordial density
perturbations and this deformation can be detected in a shape analysis of
superhorizon fluctuations in CMBR. Using this analysis we obtain the constraint
on any previous anisotropic expansion of the universe to be less than about
35%.Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures (color online

Prevalence and factors associated with diagnosed diabetes mellitus among Asian Indian adults in the United States
Article describes how a higher prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) has been documented among South Asians living in the United States. However, combining the south Asian subgroups into one category makes the heterogeneity in the diagnosed DM, after controlling for known protective and risk factors. The authors assessed the association of Asian Indian ethnicity to diagnosed DM using a nationally representative sample of 1,986 Asian Indian adults in the US compared to 109,072 Non-Hispanic Whites (NHWs) using disaggregated data from the National health Interview Survey (2012-2016)
