Post clamp
A pair of spaced collars are mounted at right angles on a clamp body by retaining rings which enable the collars to rotate with respect to the clamp body. Mounting posts extend through aligned holes in the collars and clamp body. Each collar can be clamped onto the inserted post while the clamp body remains free to rotate about the post and collar. The clamp body is selectively clamped onto each post
Man-machine interface analysis of the flight design system
The objective of the current effort was to perform a broad analysis of the human factors issues involved in the design of the Flight Design System (FDS). The analysis was intended to include characteristics of the system itself, such as: (1) basic structure and functional capabilities of FDS; (2) user backgrounds, capabilities, and possible modes of use; (3) FDS interactive dialogue, problem solving aids; (4) system data management capabilities; and to include, as well, such system related matters as: (1) flight design team structure; (2) roles of technicians; (3) user training; and (4) methods of evaluating system performance. Wherever possible, specific recommendations are made. In other cases, the issues which seem most important are identified. In some cases, additional analyses or experiments which might provide resolution are suggested
Optical measurement of propeller blade deflections in a spin facility
A nonintrusive optical system for measuring propeller blade deflections has been used in the NASA Lewis dynamic spin facility. Deflection of points at the leading and trailing edges of a blade section can be obtained with a narrow light beam from a low power helium-neon laser. A system used to measure these deflections at three spanwise locations is described. Modifications required to operate the lasers in a near-vacuum environment are also discussed
A simple functional form for proton-nucleus total reaction cross sections
A simple functional form has been found that gives a good representation of
the total reaction cross sections for the scattering of protons from (15)
nuclei spanning the mass range Be to U and for proton
energies ranging from 20 to 300 MeV.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures, bib fil
Scheduling language and algorithm development study. Volume 2, phase 2: Introduction to plans programming
A user guide for the Programming Language for Allocation and Network Scheduling (PLANS) is presented. Information is included for the construction of PLANS programs. The basic philosophy of PLANS is discussed, and access and update reference techniques are described along with the use of tree structures
Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay and Lepton Flavor Violation
We point out that extensions of the Standard Model with low scale (~TeV)
lepton number violation (LNV) generally lead to a pattern of lepton flavor
violation (LFV) experimentally distinguishable from the one implied by models
with GUT scale LNV. As a consequence, muon LFV processes provide a powerful
diagnostic tool to determine whether or not the effective neutrino mass can be
deduced from the rate of neutrinoless double beta decay. We discuss the role of
\mu -> e \gamma and \mu -> e conversion in nuclei, which will be studied with
high sensitivity in forthcoming experiments.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Imiquimod Does not Affect Shedding of Viable Chlamydiae in a Murine Model of Chlamydia trachomatis Genital Tract Infection
Objective: We postulated that either oral or vaginal administration of the immune response modifier imiquimod would decrease vaginal shedding of Chlamydia trachomatis, mouse pneumonitis strain (MoPn), in a murine model. Methods: Female BALB/c mice were infected intravaginally withC. trachomatis (MoPn) and were administered imiquimod either orally (30 mg/kg) or vaginally (10 μl of 5%imiquimod cream) prior to infection and every second day after infection for a total of four doses. The course of infection was monitored by collecting cervical–vaginal swabs and isolation in HeLa 229 cell culture. To determine whether the drug affected T helper type 1 or T helper type 2 immune response polarization, immunoglobulinG(IgG) subclass antibody responses were assessed at day 56 after infection. Results: There was no significant difference in the course of infection when imiquimod-treated mice were compared with sham-treated controls, regardless of whether the drug was administered orally or vaginally. IgG subclass antibody responses, and by extension, T helper type 1 to T helper type 2 immune response polarization, were also unaffected. Conclusions: Imiquimod has no efficacy in controllingC. trachomatis (MoPn) infection in the murine model

Fibrous dysplasia in a Monkey
Fibrous dysplasia is a syndrome characterized by dysplastic fibro-osseous skeletal changes. The syndrome has been described in the literature under a number of different terms including osteodystrophia fibrosa, polyostotic osteitis fibrosa, regional fibrocystic disease, osteitis fibrosa cystica, and fibrous dysplasia. The disease has been reported in dogs, horses, swine, monkeys and man
