Acoustic Properties of Amorphous Solids at Very Low Temperatures: The Quest for Interacting Tunneling States

We discuss the strain dependence of the acoustic properties of amorphous metals in both normal and superconducting states, in the temperature range 0.1 mK $\le T \le 1$K. A crossover is found when the strain energy is of the order of the effective interaction energy between tunneling systems at the corresponding temperature. Our results provide clear evidence for the interaction between tunneling systems, whose energy is in quantitative agreement with theoretical expectations, and reveal that without the knowledge of the corresponding strain dependences, the measured temperature dependences below $\sim 50$mK of the acoustic properties of disordered solids are rather meaningless.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figure

Electrorotation of semiconducting microspheres

We study experimentally the electrorotation (ROT) of semiconducting microspheres. ZnO microspheres obtained by a hydrothermal synthesis method are dispersed in KCl aqueous solutions and subjected to rotating electric fields. Two ROT peaks are found in experiments: a counterfield peak and a cofield peak at somewhat higher frequencies. These observations are in accordance with recent theoretical predictions for semiconducting spheres. The counterfield rotation is originated by the charging of the electrical double layer at the particle-electrolyte interface, while the cofield rotation is due to the Maxwell-Wagner relaxation. Additionally, we also found that some microspheres in the sample behaved differently and only showed counterfield rotation. We show that the behavior of these particles can be described by the so-called shell model. La representación de Grecia en el diario Bild durante los años centrales de la crisis económica, 2008-­‐2012

En esta investigación se analiza la cobertura del diario sensacionalista alemán Bild sobre la situación en Grecia durante los años centrales de la crisis de la zona euro. ¿Qué mensaje ha proporcionado Bild a sus lectores sobre la crisis? ¿Cómo se representa la complejidad de la crisis en el vocabulario de un diario sensacionalista? ¿Ha dirigido Bild una campaña propagandística contra Grecia? Este artículo trata de ofrecer respuestas a estas preguntas a través de un método basado en el análisis del discurso. El resultado confirma que Bild, con un discurso plagado de estereotipos, exageraciones y medias verdades, presenta a Alemania como un país trabajador, honesto y responsable, en oposición al despilfarro, la corrupción y la ruina de Grecia.This paper addresses the coverage of the German tabloid Bild about Greece during the toughest years of the euro area crisis. Which message about the crisis has Bild provided to its readers? How is represented the complexity of the crisis in the vocabulary of a tabloid? Has Bild led a propaganda campaign against Greece? This article attempts to provide answers to these questions through discourse analysis. The result confirms that Bild, with a discourse riddled with stereotypes, exaggerations and half-truths, presents Germany as a hardworking, honest and responsible country, as opposed to squandering, corruption and ruin in Greece

De Presidenta a Portavoza: Lenguaje inclusivo en la política

El lenguaje ha sufrido una adaptación en los últimos tiempos debido a la inclusión y visibilización de las mujeres, aun así la creación de nuevos femeninos propios relacionados con cargos y profesiones sigue siendo en ocasiones controvertida. Además, cuando la creación de estos nuevos vocablos parte del mundo de la política la crítica suele tener una mayor repercusión mediática. Así, es necesario realizar un análisis filológico sobre los términos relacionados con cargos y profesiones del mundo de la política y las variantes que se han propuesto en este sentido para mostrar la presencia de las mujeres en los mismos con la intención de comprender si son aceptables y recomendables los femeninos propios que han sido utilizados por diferentes personas políticas. Además, puede ser de interés analizar las críticas realizadas contra la creación de estos nuevos vocablos con el fin de comprender su alcance lingüístico.The language has undergone an adaptation in recent times due to the inclusion and visibility of women, so the creation of new female employees associated to positions and professions is sometimes controversial. In addition, when the creation of these new words come from of the politics world the critic usually has a better media impact. Thus, is necessary to carry out a philological analysis on the terms related to positions and professions of the politics world and the variants that have been proposed in this sense to show the presence of women in them with the intention of understanding if the female ones themselves that have been used by different political people are acceptable and they are recommend. In addition, to analyze the criticisms made against the creation of these new words in order to understand their linguistic importance may be interesting

Elecciones presidenciales en Argelia: la legitimidad del sistema en juego

Para el próximo 8 de abril están previstas elecciones presidenciales en Argelia, en las que será elegido el presidente de la República norteafricana para un período de cinco años. El sistema político argelino concede una enorme importancia a la figura del presidente (reforzada por la Constitución de 1996, calificada por muchos como de ultra presidencialista). Éste nombra al primer ministro, a los miembros del Gobierno, al gobernador del Banco de Argelia, a los oficiales militares superiores, a los jueces, a los responsables de la seguridad y a los walis (gobernadores), y puede legislar por decreto en una situación de urgencia en la que la Asamblea Popular Nacional no esté en período de sesiones. Por todo ello, la importancia de estas elecciones es muy grande, no sólo por conocer el nombre del próximo presidente, sino especialmente por ver si se desarrollan con limpieza y transparencia por primera vez en la historia del país. El actual presidente Abdelaziz Buteflika y el secretario general del FLN, Alí Benflis, aparecen como los dos principales candidatos, junto al islamista Abdellah Jaballah del MRN-Islah
