    A Comparison of Key Determinants on Profitability of India’s Largest Public and Private Sector Banks

    The banking sector in India has come under the scanner following some key changes in monetary policy. With the Reserve bank of India (RBI) raising interest rates to support the falling Indian currency the Rupee, the cost of funds of banks has increased significantly. This could manifest itself in rising non-performing assets (NPAs) and declining profitability. The profitability of banks is impacted by both internal and external factors. This paper is an attempt to compare the key drivers of profits at India’s largest public and private sector banks. Bank specific metrics and risk factors were important drivers of profits at both banks. Productivity measures were key drivers of profits at India’s largest public sector bank SBI but had no effect on profits at India’s largest private sector bank, HDFC bank. Asset usage efficiency measures were key determinants of profitability at HDFC bank but not at SBI. The single most important determinant of SBI proved to be business per employee, a productivity measure while advances and bank size which are traditional bank metrics were key drivers of profits at HDFC bank. Managers at both banks and their share holders thus can look at these drivers to develop a broad understanding of profitability at the two banks.     Ameliorating Direct Blue Dye Degradation Using Trametes versicolor Derived Laccase Enzyme Optimized through Box–Behnken Design (BBD) via Submerged Fermentation

    The major intend of this study was to elucidate the laccase production by Trametes versicolor under submerged fermentation using fruit waste peel as substrate. The textile dye was decolorized by the procured crude enzymatic extract using the response surface methodology. The submerged media with organic fruit peel waste extract (jackfruit, pineapple & kaffir) supplemented with gypsum, calcium carbonate, and nutrient broth were considered superior for laccase production. The produced laccase enzyme was used in dye decolorization at the optimum conditions using the Box-Behnken design. Subsequently, the experiment was designed with four variables (dye concentration, pH, temperature & time) with three factors to achieve the maximum direct blue dye decolorization. The highest laccase activity level was obtained from jackfruit peel extract with 3.86U/ml on 15th day at 25oC with pH 5.0 when compared to the other two extracts. The maximum laccase activity with guaiacol was obtained at optimum pH 4 and 40oC. The predicted value was experimentally validated by attaining 81.25% of dye color removal. From the result, the optimum conditions for direct blue color removal were: dye concentration 40ppm, pH 4.0, temperature 40oC at 24 hours. From the results of this study, it was concluded that the jack fruit peel was a more suitable substrate for laccase production. The dye decolorization results were recommended that Box-Behnken design for parameters optimization. The T. versicolor laccase was more proficient for textile dye decolorization. The opportunity was created by using the laccase enzyme for the biological treatment of textile dyeing effluent before discharging into the environment

    The Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) considered to be great deal of courage to face the disease that seems to have no cure as yet. Many of the people living with HIV (PLHIV), have the intense feelings of hopelessness, loneliness, fear, anxiety and depression. The Highly Active Anti Retroviral Therapy (HAART) has effectively reduced HIV related morbidity and mortality for PLHIV. Even they are living longer with ART, but significant side-effects like anorexia, nausea, vomiting, fatigue and stress related problems are unavoidable. The National Institute of Health and World Health Organization recommends that, yoga makes to minimize the side effects ART and stress related problems of PLHIV. Among many branches of yoga, Hatha yoga enhances the capacity of the physical body through the use of series body postures, movements (Asanas) and breathing techniques (Pranayama). It’s a form of mind-body fitness that involves the combination of muscular activity and an internally focus on the mind for awareness of the self, breath and energy aids to boost immunity and relax the mind. Many research studies supported that, this behavior modification of yoga is potentially safe, effective and this low-cost management help to ‘detoxify’ the body, mitigate chronic fatigue, enhance endurance, improve organ and immune functions makes to enhance overall well being and quality of life of PLHIV

    Synthesis, spectral characterization, anti-bacterial, cytotoxic evaluation and docking studies of new urea and thiourea derivatives

    Isoniazid is one of the main API’s used in the combination treatment of tuberculosis recommended by the WHO. Urea and its derivatives are an important class of heterocyclic compounds that possess a wide range of therapeutic and pharmacological properties, while thiourea is an organosulphur compound in that it resembles urea except that the atom oxygen has been replaced by a Sulphur atom, but the properties of urea and thiourea are significantly different. The current work concerns the synthesis of a new class of urea and thiourea derivatives of isoniazid with various isocyanates and isothiocyanates in the presence of trimethylamine. The IR and NMR spectral data were performed for the urea and thiourea derivatives of the compounds [(3c & 3f) & (3d & 3e)], respectively. Molecular docking studies of the compounds (3a-h) revealed the binding mode involved in the active site of DNA gyrase. The synthesized urea and thiourea derivatives of isoniazid with various isocyanates and isothiocyanates were tested for their antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria using the “disc diffusion method”. Of all compounds tested, the urea derivatives (3a &3d), the thiourea derivatives (3e & 3g) showed more potent activity than the other compounds. The MTT assay revealed concentration dependent cytotoxic effects over a concentration range 25-200 µg/mL

    249-257Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) are the primary diseases in neurodegenerative diseases. Nowadays, AD is common in one of the ten individuals whose age is more than 65, and its prevalence is kept on increasing with aging. Very few treatments and no effective treatments are available for curing neurodegenerative diseases. Pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and their association with the nine hallmarks of aging were clearly described in this review. Instability in genomic, attrition in telomere, alterations in epigenetics, proteostasis loss, dysfunction in mitochondria, senescence in cells, sensing of deregulated nutrition, exhaustion of stem cells, and alterations in intercellular communication are the nine biological hallmarks of Aging. Improving the medical facilities for neurodegenerative diseases is very much essential. Doctors and researchers are doing surplus research to overcome the unavailability of proper treatments for such neurodegenerative diseases. Reason and the causes behind the diseases and their effects are explained in this review to enhance the further research to help the society

    Polymer concrete or epoxy granite is becoming more popular for beds, bases, and other structures of precision machine tools, owing to its excellent damping characteristics. To realize the same static rigidity as that of the cast-iron structures, steel-reinforced epoxy granite (SREG) structures are being used. The vast differences in the thermal properties of steel and epoxy granite (EG) are likely to cause higher magnitudes of thermal error. This work aims to investigate the thermal behaviour of a computerized numerical control (CNC) lathe built with a novel dynamically enhanced SREG bed and compare its performance with the lathe with a cast iron bed. Experimental and numerical investigations have been carried out under cross-feed (CF) drive idle running conditions to determine the TCP deformation. The results reveal that the thermal error in the CNC lathe with SREG bed is 1.68 times that of the lathe with cast iron (CI) bed at 20 ºC and 1.8 times at 40 ºC environmental temperature variation chamber (ETVC) conditions. It could be identified that the heat generated in the CF is conducted to the steel guideways embedded in the SREG bed, but further heat transfer to the EG portion of the bed is impeded, and hence the heat accumulation that occurs in the guideways leads to higher magnitude of the thermal error. The experimentally validated numerical model is used to extend the investigations to study the effect of the idle running of the longitudinal feed drive (LF) and combined cross and longitudinal feed drives, on the thermal behaviour of the lathe
