Se trata de resultados preliminares que se están obteniendo en el Bajo Guadalhorce, en el marco de la tesis doctoral del primer firmanteIn riverine areas, many anthropogenic actions (modification of natural water courses, burying or channeling works, etc.) have been commonly applied worldwide to prevent floods in rivers, having negative environmental impacts on their dependent ecosystems. In the Guadalhorce River mouth (Málaga, Southern Spain), channeling works -including the splitting of the main channel into two branches before arriving to the sea- were conducted to reduce the flood risk in the surrounding urbanized areas near to the Mediterranean coast. In the framework of the monitoring program of the Guadalhorce Delta Wetlands, located between the branches of the ending river stretch, measurements of electrical conductivity in wetland water and groundwater table were performed, as well as the sampling of both water types. The results show a progressive increasing in the mineralization of wetland water, reaching values 50 times higher than the original ones. In the underlying aquifers, the mineralization of groundwater is generally less variable and lower than the recorded in the eighties and nineties, when a salt intrusion episode occurred. Before the river channel modification, the water flow from the aquifer to the wetlands and toward the river in its mouth was deduced. Today, the wetlands recharge locally the Quaternary aquifer and, consequently, induce the groundwater flow towards the both branches of the river and Mediterranean Sea. The variation of the morphodynamics in the Guadalhorce River mouth and the associated changes in land use have caused significant impacts on ground and surface water and their dependent wetlands.Universidad de Málaga. The phenomenon of globalization has changed the codes of conduct of many of the actors operating on the global stage. Among these, those responsible in local governments have seen how they have had to strengthen their economic, technological and/or social development strategies for positioning their influence area in a good place in the global competitive ranking for competing on a global scale. However, the governance structures, the knowledge generation, and the power to influence citizen decisions occur at a local level. Nevertheless, in this new scenario, people responsible in local governments have generally been unable to provide an appropriate response, while lacking sufficient skills for carrying out this challenge that the new framework requires. For this reason, it is important to provide local governments with tools capable of assisting in the process of designing innovation policies, to successfully build the leadership of the territory on the global stage. This article is aimed at presenting an application of the methodology of the functional and value analysis as an effective formula to reach the outlined goals.

The aim of this work was to elucidate the suitability of the biotechnological production of transglutaminase by Streptoverticillium ladakanum NRRL-3191 grown on media made from hydrolysates of sorghum straw. Transglutaminase activity was determined in fermentations on sorghum straw hydrolysates and commercial xylose with initial xylose 10, 20 or 30 g/L. Using media containing commercial xylose 20 g/L, transglutaminase activity up to 0.282 U/mL was obtained in 96 h. Using neutralized, charcoal-treated hydrolysates of sorghum straw with xylose 30 g/L sterilized in autoclave at 121 °C, up to 0.155 U/mL was obtained in 96 h. However, when the sterilization was performed by filtration, using the same hydrolysates with xylose 20 g/L, up to 0.348 U/mL was obtained in 72 h. It was demonstrated that hydrolysates of sorghum straw are suitable media for transglutaminase production by Streptoverticillium ladakanum

This paper presents a way to describe educational itineraries in a competence-oriented learning system in order to solve the problem of sequencing several independent courses. The main objective is to extract adaptive learning paths composed by the subset of needed courses passed in the right order. This approach improves the courses’ re-usability allowing courses to be included in different itineraries, improving the re-usability of the courses, and making possible the definition of mechanisms to adapt the learning path to the learner’s needs in execution tim

Neuro-Fuzzy System for Compensating Slow Disturbances in Adaptive Mold Level Control

[EN] Good slow disturbances attenuation in a mold level control with stopper rod is very important for avoiding several product defects and keeping down casting interruptions. The aim of this work is to improve the accuracy of the diagnosis and compensation of an adaptive mold level control method for slow disturbances related to changes of stopper rod. The advantages offered by the architecture, called Adaptive-Network-based Fuzzy Inference System, were used for training a previous model. This allowed learning based on the process data from a steel cast case study, representing all intensity levels of valve erosion and clogging. The developed model has high accuracy in its functional relationship between two compact input variables and the compensation coefficient of the valve gain variations. The future implementation of this proposal will consider a combined training of the model, which would be very convenient for maintaining good accuracy in the Fuzzy Inference System using new data from the process. This work is supported by a Project (AA-ELACERO, P211LH021-023) of the National Key Research and Development Program of Automatic, Robotic and Artificial Intelligence of Cuba.González-Yero, G.; Ramírez Leyva, R.; Ramírez Mendoza, M.; Albertos, P.; Crespo, A.; Reyes Alonso, JM. Extended sensations on interactive telecommunication

    Get PDF
Although computer science and telecommunications have evolved from the 90’s to nowadays, the way people communicate each other through electronic devices has stuck since the appearance of the videoconference. The audiovisual interaction seems enough, but we think the sensation of presence gets higher when we allow the person who we are talking to, taking part in our environment using and enriching it. In that way, the interaction is improved with new sensations which come from outside of our device. In this article, we propose a communication service which provides not only videoconference, but manages the smart environment where the interlocutor of the communication is, allowing him to access to any device connected through domotic and/or wireless network. The application is developed under the OSGi open specification and it almost doesn’t imply any cost increase over the bandwidth used during communication. Once explaining the technical foundations, its diverse applications in ubiquitous meetings and on-line games will be commented

Plasmonic and dielectric based waveguides are widely used for biosensing applications. However, the use of different sensing architectures and platforms hinders the fair comparison of their respective figures of merit. In this paper, plasmonic and dielectric-based photonic waveguide biosensors are compared in terms of attainable limit of detection, using in both cases a coherent-readout interferometric architectureUniversidad de Málaga; Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte (MECD) (FPU16/06762); Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (MICINN) (PRE2020-096438, PID2019-106747RB-I00); Consejería de Economía, Conocimiento, Empresas y Universidad (CECEU) (UMA18-FEDERJA-219, PY18-793); Consejería de Salud y Familia (CSF) (PIN-0113-2020), Universidad de Málaga.
