Dimension of political participation and models of democracy
This paper critically examines the type of political participation advocated by
each of the main conceptions of democracy in the last fifty years. The balance
that this analysis yields the conclusion that, in varying degrees and for various
reasons, all of them paint a vision unsatisfactory fit of political participation
in the definition and quality of democracy. From the examination, will add to
a thesis that has gained particular strength in the debates between supporters
of a strong conception of constitutionalism or other weak and the controversy
over the desirability of a more or less participator y and inclusive deliberative
democracy: that the concept of political participation that best fits the democratic
ideals of self-government and political equality is stressing that there is something
intrinsically valuable both recognized the possibility of voting aimed at the
overall choice of the representatives and, exceptionally, to the direct adoption of
decisions, such as participation in the discussion before and after the vote
El desafío de la igualdad domestica a la apertura de las fronteras : el argumento de la singularidad de la coacción estatal | The challenge of domestic equality to the opening of borders: the argument of the singularity of state coercion
The purpose of this paper is to examine one of the most relevant arguments among those used to justify that the members of the same political community owe each other more demanding and strong distributive justice duties than they have with respect to other human beings, to the point of justify a system of closed borders similar to the current one. It is the one that could be denominated like "argument of the singularity of the state coercion". It assumes as an empirical premise that such coercion is structurally and functionally different from what we can find in the international arena, including that which is exercised through the direct prevention and repression of the entry of persons into a given political community by means of border controls
Investment-specific technology shocks and international business cycles: an empirical assessment
In this paper, we first introduce investment-specific technology (IST) shocks into an otherwise standard international real business cycle model and show that a thoughtful calibration of them along the lines of Raffo (2009) successfully addresses several of the existing puzzles in the literature. In particular, we obtain a negative correlation of relative consumption and the terms of trade (Backus-Smith puzzle), as well as a more volatile real exchange rate, and cross-country output correlations that are higher than consumption correlations (price and quantity puzzles). Then we use data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development for the relative price of investment to build and estimate these IST processes across the United States and a "rest of the world" aggregate, showing that they are cointegrated and well represented by a vector error–correction model. Finally, we demonstrate that, when we fit such estimated IST processes into the model, the shocks are actually powerless to explain any of the existing puzzles.

What is told in these pages, is the tale of an experience.
