Characteristics of centrifugally cast GX25CrNiSi18-9 steel
The paper presents the results of microstructural examinations of the industrial heat-resistant centrifugally cast GX25CrNiSi18-9 steel characterised by increased content of Cu. The study included changes in the microstructure of base cast steel respective of the steel held at a temperature of 900 and 950°C for 48 hours. Based on the results obtained, an increase in microhardness of the examined cast steel matrix with increasing temperature was stated, which was probably caused by fine precipitates enriched in Cr, Mo, and C forming inside the matrix grains. The layer of scale formed on the tested cast steel oxidised in the atmosphere of air at 900 and 950°C was characterised by an increased tendency to degradation with increasing temperature of the conducted tests
State business: gender, sex and marriage in Tajikistan
This article examines the relation of the state to masculinity and sexuality by way of an exploration of the sexual problems of a young man and his wife in Tajikistan at the end of the Soviet era. It suggests that the regime’s inattention to this kind of issue was bound up with the importance to the state of projecting appropriate versions of masculinity. It further posits the idea that the continued refusal of the independent Tajik state to offer appropriate treatments for sexual dysfunction is consistent with the image of modernity President Rahmon wishes to present to the world. The article shows that as masculinity discursively occupies the superior gender position, with men expected to dominate, the state is itself impotent to respond when they are, in fact, unable to do so in sexual practice. However, the myth of male dominance persists to the point that it may prevent women from seeing beyond their subordination and finding mutually beneficial solutions in their familial and sexual relationships
Biopsy and tracheobronchial aspirates as additional tools for the diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis in living European bison (bison bonasus)
CITATION: Didkowska, Anna et al. 2020. Biopsy and tracheobronchial aspirates as additional tools for the diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis in living European bison (bison bonasus). Animals, 10(11):2017, doi:10.3390/ani10112017.The original publication is available at: https://www.mdpi.comENGLISH ABSTRACT: The diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis (BTB) in living wildlife remains a complex problem,
and one of particular importance in endangered species like European bison (Bison bonasus). To identify
infection and avoid the unnecessary culling of such valuable individuals, current best practice
requires the collection and culture of material from living animals, as mycobacteria isolation
remains the gold standard in BTB diagnosis. However, such isolation is challenging due to the
need for the immobilization and collection of appropriate clinical material, and because of the
sporadic shedding of mycobacteria. In the present study, we evaluated the potential of sampling
for the detection of BTB in a group of seven living European bison suspected of being infected
with Mycobacterium caprae. The specimens were collected both as swabs from the nasal and
pharyngeal cavities, tracheobronchial aspirates (TBA), ultrasound-guided biopsies from lateral
retropharyngeal lymph nodes, and post mortem, from mandibular, retropharyngeal and mediastinal
lymph nodes. Clinical samples were tested for mycobacterial species via mycobacteriological culture
and PCR. M. caprae was isolated from collected material in two out of four living infected individuals
(TBA, biopsy) and mycobacterialDNAwas detected in three out of four (TBA, pharyngeal swab) bison.
This is the first report of isolation of M. caprae in living European bison. Our findings demonstrate the
value of diagnostic tests based on both molecular testing and culture in European bison and confirm
the respiratory shedding of viable M. caprae in this host species.Publisher's versio
Characteristic of the nutritive value of the protein from rye caruopses. I. Amino acid composition of protein and the nitrogen forms in the caryopses of ten rue varieties from the breeding collection
Total and soluble nitrogen, protein and non-protein -nitrogen was determined as well as the amino acid composition of the caryopses of ten rye varieties including three bred in Poland and cultivated on a commercial scale: 'Dańkowskie Złote', 'Dańkowskie Selekcyjne' and 'Borkowskie Tetra'. and seven foreign varieties characterized by a high total protein content (11.9-16.4% in dry weight). In the varieties examined the amount of protein nitrogen increased in the same degree as did the content of total nitrogen. The amino acids limiting the nutritive value of the protein in rye caryopses were mostly lysine and methionine, and in the varieties with high protein content tryptophan. The low-protein varieties had a relatively higher content of lysine, sulphur amino acids, tryptophan and other amino acids (as % of protein) than the high protein ones, but their absolute amino acid content (as % of dry weight) was lower
