‘Pannirupaattiyal (The Twelve Songs) and the Novel, ‘Prabandha Deepikai’

    Get PDF
The life and cultures of human society are of a changing nature from time to time. Literature reflects the cultural norms that prevailed at that time. Grammars are those that characterize literary norms and preserve the richness of language. The separate category of such grammar is the Paattiyal. The earliest of the fully available Paattiyal books by time is the twelve hymns. The three disciplines of epigraphy, terminology, and ethnology consist of 360 volumes. Many Paattiyal books have appeared before this book. None of them are fully available today. The oldest of the texts is the Pannirupaattiyal, the period of which is the tenth century AD. Generally, there are three sections of Paattiyal texts. It is necessary to think about the nature of the compositions, the part that explains the prabandhams, the section on the sequel, the second section that is the grammar of the literary genres, and the nature of the Paattiyal texts

Critical analysis of Vidangakrishnadi Yoga w.s.r. to Krimihara action

    Get PDF
The analysis of the formulation (Yoga) pertaining to its mode of action is an important area in assuring the therapeutic efficacy and safety. Krimiroga being a common presentation in pediatric age group, the probable action of the drug is more relevant considering the Aparipakvaavastha of the children. Lakshanas of Pureeshaja Krimi described in Ayurvedic classics are Vivarnatha (Discoloration of the face), Shoola (Pain in abdomen), Bhaktadwesha (Aversion to food), Atisaara (Loose stools), Sadana (Generalized Debility), Jwara (fever) and Gudakandu (Anal itching). According to Ayurveda, the principle of treatment for Krimi includes Apakarshana, Prakruti Vighata and Nidana Parivarjana. Among these Samshamana is easier to be administered in children, so such formulation is being adopted. Vidangakrishnadiyoga is a Kashayayoga explained in Sahasrayoga in Kashayaprakarana. The indications sole action of Yoga is indicated as Krimihara. There are 9 drugs in the Yoga which are collectively Krimihara, Deepana and Pachana in action. The drugs are Vidanga, Pippali, Maricha, Nirgundi, Shigru, Bharangi, Musta and Aakhukarni. This article is a review of the Vidangakrishnadi Yoga considering the Rasadigunas of the ingredients

Annotation of Alternatively Spliced Proteins and Transcripts with Protein-Folding Algorithms and Isoform-Level Functional Networks.

    Get PDF
Tens of thousands of splice isoforms of proteins have been catalogued as predicted sequences from transcripts in humans and other species. Relatively few have been characterized biochemically or structurally. With the extensive development of protein bioinformatics, the characterization and modeling of isoform features, isoform functions, and isoform-level networks have advanced notably. Here we present applications of the I-TASSER family of algorithms for folding and functional predictions and the IsoFunc, MIsoMine, and Hisonet data resources for isoform-level analyses of network and pathway-based functional predictions and protein-protein interactions. Hopefully, predictions and insights from protein bioinformatics will stimulate many experimental validation studies

A simple, narrow, and robust atomic frequency reference at 993 nm exploiting the rubidium (Rb) 5S1/25\mathit{S}_{1/2} to 6S1/26\mathit{S}_{1/2} transition using one-color two-photon excitation

We experimentally demonstrate a one-color two-photon transition from the 5S1/25\mathit{S}_{1/2} ground state to the 6S1/26\mathit{S}_{1/2} excited state in rubidium (Rb) vapor using a continuous wave laser at 993 nm. The Rb vapor contains both isotopes (85^{85}Rb and 87^{87}Rb) in their natural abundances. The electric dipole allowed transitions are characterized by varying the power and polarization of the excitation laser. Since the optical setup is relatively simple, and the energies of the allowed levels are impervious to stray magnetic fields, this is an attractive choice for a frequency reference at 993 nm, with possible applications in precision measurements and quantum information processing.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, research articl

Assessment of wetland change dynamics of Chennai coast, Tamil Nadu, India, using satellite remote sensing

    Get PDF
1258-1266The coastal wetlands of Chennai are increasingly being affected by anthropogenic factors, such as urbanization, residential, and industrial development. This study helps to monitor and map the dynamics of the coastal wetlands of Chennai using Landsat satellite images of 1988, 1996, 2006, and 2016 by following a supervised classification method. Post-classification wetland change detection was done in three temporal phases, that is, 1988 1996, 1996 2006, and 2006 2016. Change detection matrix analysis was performed to identify the from to changes. Ground truthing was carried out to validate the wetland classes. The overall accuracy of the classified image was 79.29% and the kappa coefficient was 0.7600. These results were imported into a GIS environment for further analysis. It was found that the wetlands have decreased to an alarming extent in the past 28 years from 23.14% in 1988 to 15.79% in 2016 of the total study area, owing to conversion of wetlands into industrial development, urban expansion, and other developmental activities

Valorization of discarded industrial processing wastes of Siboga squid (Doryteuthiis sibogae) for the extraction and physico-chemical characterization of gelatin

    Get PDF
A growing concern on the accumulation and disposal of fish processing discards and environmental degradation induces a profound attraction on the development of valuable byproducts for human purposes. Gelatin was isolated from Siboga squid (Doryteuthiis sibogae) skin through cold maturation process and its physico-chemical as well as structural properties viz. Water Holding Capacity (WHC), emulsifying capacity, emulsifying stability and viscosity were analyzed. The alkaline treatment of skin yielded 7.5 % gelatin powder. Extracted gelatin was characterized using UV-visible spectroscopy, 1H NMR, FT-IR and Raman analyses. Based on FT-IR and Raman fingerprints, peak located at 1664 cm-1 (C=O stretch Amide I band) could be inferred that secondary structure of proteins as well as coiled structure of gelatin. Topographic analysis by AFM showed presence of aggregates of the polymer. The results suggest that the Siboga squid gelatin is an alternative source of gelatin and its potential applicability at industrial scale

Variations in lung fissures and lobes morphology in population of Andhra Pradesh of South India (a cadaveric study)

    Get PDF
Knowledge of the position of lung fissures is necessary for the appreciation of lobar anatomy and thus locating the bronchopulmonary segments. The study aimed to investigate the patterns of fissures and lobes of the lungs and their variations in Andhra Pradesh, India and to find their clinical implications and compare them with the previous studies. Methods: The patterns of lobes, fissures, and hilar anatomy of lungs and its variations of 47 lungs by dissection method of embalmed cadavers was performed in the Department of Anatomy, Narayana Medical College (Nellore, India). The specimens were macroscopically observed for gross morphology of fissures and lobes. Results. The study showed oblique fissure in 33 % (grade 1), 26 % (grade 2), 24 % (grade 3) and 14 % (grade 4) of right lungs and 27 % (grade 1), 31 % (grade 2), 12 % (grade 3) and 12 % (grade 4) of left lungs. The incomplete horizontal fissure was seen in 38 % of right-sided lungs (grade 1). 19 % of right lungs and 10 % of left lungs had accessory lung fissures. Conclusions. Awareness of the variations in the lobes and fissures of the lungs is important for radiologists while interpreting magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography scans. Also, we believe that the data from the present study certainly adds an important reference in the medical literature to thoracic surgeons in performing pneumonectomy and segmental resection
