Tamil Language in Information Technology: Applications, Growth, and Future Scope

    Get PDF
The growth and sustainability of any language increasingly depend on its ability to adapt to rapidly evolving technological environments. Tamil, one of the world’s oldest living languages with a rich literary and cultural heritage, has demonstrated notable adaptability within modern information technology frameworks. While the antiquity of Tamil is well established, reinforcing its contemporary relevance and technological presence is equally essential in the digital era. In this context, the role of Tamil in computer-based systems—electronic platforms that store, process, and manage information through machine-readable formats—has gained significant importance. For a language to achieve sustained prominence in information technology, the availability of extensive digital resources and structured datasets comparable to those of dominant languages such as English is crucial. Globally, university scholars and Tamil language experts have been actively contributing to the digitization, computational processing, and technological enrichment of Tamil. As the depth and volume of Tamil digital data continue to expand, greater institutional and industrial engagement in Tamil-based technological development is anticipated. This study examines the present status of Tamil across key technological domains, including software development, mobile and web applications, interface localization, e-learning and digital education platforms, document processing and office applications, machine translation, and artificial intelligence–based systems. In addition, the study explores future-oriented strategies and initiatives necessary to enhance Tamil’s technological sustainability and strengthen its position within the global information technology ecosystem

    Get PDF
By understanding the context of the Thirukkural and the philosophy of God, one can grasp the principles that the author of the text attempts to convey. If one approaches the Thirukkural merely as a book of ethics, which speaks of moral values applicable to all parties, the deeper underlying meanings of the text cannot be uncovered. Therefore, this article explores the notion that the author, Thiruvalluvar, created the Kural against a backdrop of specific religious influences

The lifestyle of the people is revealed in this village in a special way through Kooththu. Thus, the Mahidikkooththu practiced here is a people-centred stage-based form, combining stories, societies, and events of the time and performing it in an open space with specific stage elements. This Kooththu has not changed with the passage of time, the arrival of modern theatre, and place names. However, this form of Kooththu is necessary to connect people with the contemporary theatre trend and to express their creative potential. In addition, it is a medium to pass on theatre techniques and its unique features to the younger generation. Thus, the social, economic and cultural factors that led to the obsolescence of the Mahidikkooththu, which was performed fifty years ago in the Mullaitivu region, are identified and re-examined, its performance system and its subsequent status are examined through the process. Since this study is a sociological study, the research methodology of Exploratory Method and Qualitative Research Design were followed. When the performance is performed through fieldwork, data is collected and analyzed. The purpose of the study is to revive an obsolete performance form. The research problem is the failure to revive Mahidikkooththu

The Worship of Pudavaikariyamman in the Kongu Region – A study

    Get PDF
Tamils worship various deities seeking prosperity and well-being in their lives. We cannot alter the wonders of nature such as the five elements, the sun, the moon, the stars, mountains, rivers, rain, thunder, lightning, and drought. Man, who sought to cultivate the land by clearing forests, feared that the immeasurable natural forces surrounding him would cause harm to himself, his crops, and his livestock. To strengthen his fearful mind and to appease nature so that it would not harm him, he began to worship. In Tamil Nadu, particularly in the Kongu region, the worship of deceased ancestors holds a prominent place in folk religious traditions. This ancestor worship is based on both love and fear. The hero-stone worship mentioned in the Sangam period, although primarily a worship of valor, is also a form of ancestor worship. Among these deity worship practices, we will examine the worship of Pudavaikariyamman, who is celebrated as a family deity in the fertile Kongu region

In particular, it will examine how collaborative learning methods can help address challenges in Tamil language reading in a bilingual environment like Singapore. The results of this study will open up new avenues for improving the learning of students who struggle with reading. Teachers will be able to use collaborative learning strategies in their classrooms to gain effective approaches to improving students’ reading skills. Furthermore, this study will highlight the importance of reading instruction in the education system and the role of collaborative learning in the holistic development of students. This will be useful for Tamil language learners in the Singaporean educational environment as it will help them improve their language skills and academic success. Furthermore, there is little research on how collaborative learning can best be used to address the specific difficulties in Tamil reading in a bilingual environment like Singapore. This study attempts to fill this gap by examining the unique role of collaborative learning in improving the fluency of students who struggle with reading. In particular, it proposes to compare the effectiveness of different collaborative learning methods and to examine which methods are most suitable for which types of students

    Get PDF
After the Thirukkural, which is considered the leading text among the eighteen books, the Naladiyar has maintained its popularity. The proverb “Nalum udumum sollukkuruti” illustrates this truth. The contribution made by the Jain religion to the Tamil language is immeasurable. Jainism played a major role in the religious life of the ancient Tamils. The names Arugatha religion, Nikanda religion, Aakananda religion, and Liathvada religion are given to Jainism. The meaning of Jainism gives the meaning of monks. The Jains were experts in both the fields of grammar and literature in Tamil. The influence of Jainism can be seen here and there in the Sangha bhagas. The Purananutru song “Yadum Ure Yaavarum Kelir” and the song “Undalamma” are common to all religions, but they have absorbed Jain ideas. Jain literature can be divided into three types. The first type is the grammar written in a way that is suitable for learning the ancient grammar, the second type is the poetry and prose, which arose as an attempt to create poetry. The third type is the method of the Jains, based on their principles, shaping morality into a special way that is specific to the Jains and a way that is relevant to everyone. Among them, the Naladiyar, one of the eighteen books of literature from the period after the Sangha, contains most of the Jain ideas. The purpose of this article is to explain that the Naladiyar completely absorbs Jain philosophies and teaches them as virtues to be followed in life
