    Low Power Reversible Parallel Binary Adder/Subtractor

    In recent years, Reversible Logic is becoming more and more prominent technology having its applications in Low Power CMOS, Quantum Computing, Nanotechnology, and Optical Computing. Reversibility plays an important role when energy efficient computations are considered. In this paper, Reversible eight-bit Parallel Binary Adder/Subtractor with Design I, Design II and Design III are proposed. In all the three design approaches, the full Adder and Subtractors are realized in a single unit as compared to only full Subtractor in the existing design. The performance analysis is verified using number reversible gates, Garbage input/outputs and Quantum Cost. It is observed that Reversible eight-bit Parallel Binary Adder/Subtractor with Design III is efficient compared to Design I, Design II and existing design.Comment: 12 pages,VLSICS Journa

    Factors contributing to the time taken to consult with symptoms of lung cancer: a cross-sectional study

    <b>Objectives</b>: To determine what factors are associated with the time people take to consult with symptoms of lung cancer, with a focus on those from rural and socially deprived areas. <b>Methods</b>: A cross-sectional quantitative interview survey was performed of 360 patients with newly diagnosed primary lung cancer in three Scottish hospitals (two in Glasgow, one in NE Scotland). Supplementary data were obtained from medical case notes. The main outcome measures were the number of days from (1) the date participant defined first symptom until date of presentation to a medical practitioner; and (2) the date of earliest symptom from a symptom checklist (derived from clinical guidelines) until date of presentation to a medical practitioner. <b>Results</b>: 179 participants (50%) had symptoms for more than 14 weeks before presenting to a medical practitioner (median 99 days; interquartile range 31–381). 270 participants (75%) had unrecognised symptoms of lung cancer. There were no significant differences in time taken to consult with symptoms of lung cancer between rural and/or deprived participants compared with urban and/or affluent participants. Factors independently associated with increased time before consulting about symptoms were living alone, a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and longer pack years of smoking. Haemoptysis, new onset of shortness of breath, cough and loss of appetite were significantly associated with earlier consulting, as were a history of chest infection and renal failure. <b>Conclusion</b>: For many people with lung cancer, regardless of location and socioeconomic status, the time between symptom onset and consultation was long enough to plausibly affect prognosis. Long-term smokers, those with COPD and/or those living alone are at particular risk of taking longer to consult with symptoms of lung cancer and practitioners should be alert to this

    Students' Speaking Achievement Through Story Completion Technique

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) menginvestigasi apakah ada peningkatan pencapaian berbicara sesudah diajar menggunakan teknik story completion, dan (2) menemukan aspek berbicara manakah yang paling meningkat setelah diajar menggunakan teknik story completion. Untuk mencapai tujuan ini, peneliti menggunakan studi kuantitatif yang melibatkan satu kelas. Instrumen untuk pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah tes berbicara dan rekaman. Penelitian ini menggunakan content and construct validity, dan juga inter-rater reliability untuk mengukur konsistensi tes. Hasil analisis data menunjukan bahwa terdapat peningkatan pencapaian berbicara siswa setelah diajar menggunakan teknik story completion. Kemudian, pemahaman adalah aspek yang paling meningkat diantara aspek yang lain. Hasil tes hipotesis menunjukan bahwa nilai signifikan (2- tailed) adalah 0.000 (p<0.05). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa H0 ditolak dan menunjukan bahwa teknik story completion dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa di semua aspek terutama dalam aspek pemahaman. This study aimed at (1) finding out whether there was an increase of students' speaking achievement after being taught through story completion technique, and (2) finding out the aspects of speaking of the students that increase most after being taught through story completion technique. The researcher carried out quantitative study with one group pretest posttest design, involving one class as experimental class. The instrument in this research was speaking test and recording. This study used content and construct validity, and also inter-rater realiability to measure the consistency of the test. The results of data analysis showed there was an increase of students' speaking achievement after being taught through story completion technique. Then, comprehensibility increased the most of the other aspects of speaking. Hypothesis test showed that the significance value (2- tailed) was 0.000 (p<0.05). It could be concluded that null-hypothesis was rejected, and it was inferred that story completion technique increase the students' speaking in all aspects especially in comprehensibility.

    This study aims to determine the effect of group counseling services to decrease stress levels class VIII IT Smp Al-Ikhsan Boarding School Riau. The research method used was experimental method. To collect the data used purposive sampling technique. This research subject is class VIII SMP IT Al-Ikhsan Boarding School Lists academic year 2014/2015 amounted to 30 students. Results showed that group counseling can reduce stress levels of students, is seen from the results of the analysis tcount greater than the value ttable with significance level of 5% (7.8> 2:00). Thus Ho is rejected and Ha accepted, which means there is significantly different to the decline in stress levels of students before the post given group counseling services
