Chemical Synthesis of Nano-Sized particles of Lead Oxide and their Characterization Studies
The quantum dots of semiconductor display novel and interesting phenomena
that have not been in the bulk material. The color tunability is one of the
most attractive characteristics in II-VI semiconductor nanoparticles such as
CdS, ZnS, CdSe, ZnSe and PbO. In this work, the semiconductor lead oxide
nanoparticles are prepared by chemical method. The average particle size,
specific surface area, crystallinity index are estimated from XRD analysis. The
structural, functional groups and optical characters are analyzed with using of
SEM, FTIR and UV- Visible techniques. The optical band gap value has also been
determined.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, 2 table
A forecast for the ensuing oil-sardine fishery
The ability to foreca st the course of events likely to be encountered during the approaching fishery season enhances the value of fishery research in
the eyes of those in the industry , As Simpson (1956) has put it, "Apart from the value to the industry of forecasting, predicting what is going to happen and
checking it against the actual events is to the fishery biologist one form of the universal research tool of formulating a hypothesis and putting it to test
Patterns of sex ratio in the oil-sardine, Sardinella longiceps Val., at Calicut
Categorising the fish according to maturity, montti of capture and length groups,
the data on the sex distribution of the Indian oil-sardine (5flrrfwW/fl/ong'/fepj) collected
at Calicut during 1959-60 to 1965-66 seasons are subjected to statistical tests to find outthe
nature and cause of dominance of either sex, if any.
For the immature fish the overall inference is that there may not be any significant
difierences in the annual recruited population. In the adult fish the possibility of
more males in May is suggested as due to the fact that the males may start maturing a
little earlier than the females. The dominance of males in 140-150 mm group and that of
females in 170-190 mm groups is brought about by differential growth, the females
growing faster during June to October period. It is recommended that the size of each
sample for sex ratio studies should be at least 50. Based on the earlier and the present
studies of this author, It is indicated that 375 million ova can be expected from a tonne of
adult biomass of the oil-sardine population
Our pelagic fishery resources Present and potential harvest
The two primary divisions of the oceans are (1) the benthic and (2) the pelagic, the former referring to the
ocean floor which supports the demersal resources and the latter, the entire column of water , accomodating the
pelagic resources. The pelagic region is a part of the marine biocycle and geographically, it is divisible into
Atlantic and Indo-Pacific. Ecologically, the pelagic realm can b e bifurcated as neritic (inshore) and oceanic (opens
e a) provinces d epending on the depth to which light penetrates and to the extent and depth of the continental slop
A Study of Morbidity Profile in South Indian Geriatric Population in a Rural Community at Thiruverkadu, Thiruvallur District
BACKGROUND:
Estimates of health problems of the elderly in developing countries are required from time to time to predict trends in disease burden and plan health care for the elderly. Developing countries have a poor track record of equitable
distribution of health care. Marginalized groups living in rural area or villages have poor penetration of health services. The present study was taken with the aim to rule out various socio-demographic factors in geriatric people and also to find the prevalence of morbidity profiles.
METHODS:
A community based cross sectional study was carried out by house to house survey of all people aged over 60 years in an rural area (Thiruverkadu).
The total elderly population in this selected area was 500. Information was collected in a pre-tested instrument and interviewed through house to house survey among the study population.
RESULTS:
Male elders outnumbered the female elders, 61.8% belongs to age group 60-09. In the age group the prevalence was high in diabetes mellitus (63.1%), hypertension (58.25%), osteoarthritis (54.87%), CAD(58.88%), COPD (68.33%),
Anemia (68.18%), cataract (71%), dental problems (58.62%), Epilepsy (60.71%), Thyroid disorders (75%), CLD (72.73%), Tuberculosis (66.67%). The smoking percentage was high as 21.4%. The change in family members attitude with
expect family support and lonely feel were the common problems.
CONCLUSION:
The study in thiruverkadu among those geriatric population has highlighted prevalence of morbidity and results of socio-demographic profile and common existing problems
On Fitting of Generalized Pareto Distribution
The Pareto distribution is to model the income data set of a society The distribution is appropriate to the situations in which an equilibrium exists in distribution of small to large There exists many generalization approaches to the distribution In this paper an effort has been made to compare the applicability of generalized Pareto distribution with Picklands 1975 by using a real life income data set The model has provided considerable a good fit to the data set Some well known distributions has been derived as a special case of this model for suitable choice of parameter
Fertilization and early development in sea urchin
Echinoderms have served more extensively than any other
group of animals for the investigation of basic problems of
fertilization and early development. It was with sea urchins that
Hertwig (1875) first effectively demonstrated the principal features
of fertilization : the incorporation of the sperm into the egg and
the fusion of sperm pronucleus with egg pronucleus
