    The efficacy of doppler indices in predicting the neontal outcome in term preeclamptic women with intrauterine growth restriction: an observational study in a tertiary care centre

    Background: Doppler flow velocimetry of the umbilical and fetal cerebral circulation is a non-invasive modality used to access the fetal well-being. Doppler is comparatively more specific and is potentially a useful tool in predicting adverse perinatal outcome in high risk cases. Objectives of this study were to evaluate the efficacy of Middle cerebral artery pulsatility index (MCA-PI), umbilical artery pulsatility index (UA-PI) and cerebroplacental ratio (CPR) doppler indices in assessment of fetal well-being. To document neonatal outcome in preeclamptic women with doppler changes.Methods: A retrospective observational study of term preeclamptic women with clinical IUGR admitting in labour room of RLJ Hospital from January 2019 to December 2019. All these women underwent Doppler study and were followed up till delivery.Results: A total 89 term preeclamptic women, 47.19% women had normal delivery, 52.81% lower segment caesarean section. 74.16 % delivered babies required NICU (neonatal ICU) care, 51.69 % babies had a longer duration of NICU care (more than 5 days). The perinatal complications like respiratory distress 8.99% low birth weight 39.33%, meconium stained 10.11%, still born 4.49% and perinatal asphyxia (6.06%). Women with abnormal MCA-PI 46.07% of cases, UA-PI in 40.45% and CPR 57.30%.Conclusions: It was observed that all three parameters CPR, MCA-PI and UA-PI when taken into account together are good utilities in predicting perinatal outcome

    Low Power and Improved Speed Montgomery Multiplier using Universal Building Blocks

    This paper describes the arithmetic blocks based on Montgomery Multiplier (MM), which reduces complexity, gives lower power dissipation and higher operating frequency. The main objective in designing these arithmetic blocks is to use modified full adder structure and carry save adder structure that can be implemented in algorithm based MM circuit. The conventional full adder design acts as a benchmark for comparison, the second is the modified Boolean equation for full adder and third design is the design of full adder consisting of two XOR gate and a 2-to-1 Multiplexer. Besides Universal gates such as NOR gate and NAND gate, full adder circuits are used to further improve the speed of the circuit. The MM circuit is evaluated based on different parameters such as operating frequency, power dissipation and area of occupancy in FPGA board. The schematic designs of the arithmetic components along with the MM architecture are constructed using Quartus II tool, while the simulation is done using Model sim for verification of circuit functionality which has shown improvement on the full adder design with two XOR gate and one 2-to-1 Multiplexer implementation in terms of power dissipation, operating frequency and area

    Perception and satisfaction regarding breast feeding among breast feeding mothers: a hospital based study

    Background: World Health organization (WHO) states that to ensure child health and survival, Breast feeding can be best tool. It also mentions that nearly 2 out of 3 are not exclusively breast fed and a special note that only 41 % are exclusively breast fed for 6 months. Breastfeeding satisfaction is defined as, “the satisfying feeling obtained during breastfeeding resulting from cooperation between the mother and the infant to fulfill desires or needs”.Methods: This was a hospital based cross sectional study carried at Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, SDUAHER, Kolar from December 2019 to August 2020 for a period of 10 months. Sample size was calculated based on previous study.Results: The present study was a cross sectional study carried out for a period of 9 months at SDUMC tertiary care center. 270 mothers were part of study among which 82 (30.3%) had completed high school, 110 (40.7%) belonged to 21-25 years, 184 (68.07%) were Hindus, 125 (46.2%) belonged to Upper middle class of Modified BG Prasad’s classification 2019, 199 (73.6%) had delivered through normal delivery and 142 (52.7%) had more than one child. Out of 270 breast feeding mothers, 214 (79.3%) has satisfactory knowledge, 148 (54.8%) had satisfactory attitude and only 47 (17.4%) had satisfactory practice. Mothers having  higher education status, having more than one child, home makers and those delivered by Normal delivery had higher scores were statistically significant.Conclusions: Perceptions regarding breast feedings were not satisfactory at various segments and breast feeding satisfaction were influenced by education, working status, number of children and family members were significant factors influencing breast feeding satisfaction

    Low-stress mechanical properties and fabric hand of cotton and polylactic acid fibre blended knitted fabrics

    Low-stress mechanical behavior of cotton-rich/polylacticacid blended fabrics has been investigated and the results arecompared with cotton and polylactic acid fibre fabrics. Thepolylactic acid fibres are mixed with cotton fibres in two differentproportions, namely 20% and 35% and spun into 14.76 tex (40sNe) yarn. The yarns are then knit into single jersey structurefollowed by chemical pretreatments and relaxation. The relaxedfabrics are tested for low-stress mechanical properties usingKawabata evaluation system for fabrics (KES-F) and the handvalues are calculated. The results show that the addition of PLAfibres to cotton enhances the smoothness and softness of theblended fabrics. The total hand value of the fabrics rangesbetween 3.2 and 3.5

    Porphyromonas gingivalis and Treponema denticola Mixed Microbial Infection in a Rat Model of Periodontal Disease

    Porphyromonas gingivalis and Treponema denticola are periodontal pathogens that express virulence factors associated with the pathogenesis of periodontitis. In this paper we tested the hypothesis that P. gingivalis and T. denticola are synergistic in terms of virulence; using a model of mixed microbial infection in rats. Groups of rats were orally infected with either P. gingivalis or T. denticola or mixed microbial infections for 7 and 12 weeks. P. gingivalis genomic DNA was detected more frequently by PCR than T. denticola. Both bacteria induced significantly high IgG, IgG2b, IgG1, IgG2a antibody levels indicating a stimulation of Th1 and Th2 immune response. Radiographic and morphometric measurements demonstrated that rats infected with the mixed infection exhibited significantly more alveolar bone loss than shaminfected control rats. Histology revealed apical migration of junctional epithelium, rete ridge elongation, and crestal alveolar bone resorption; resembling periodontal disease lesion. These results showed that P. gingivalis and T. denticola exhibit no synergistic virulence in a rat model of periodontal disease

    Modulation of pancreatic cancer cell sensitivity to FOLFIRINOX through microRNA-mediated regulation of DNA damage

    FOLFIRINOX, a combination of chemotherapy drugs (Fluorouracil, Oxaliplatin, Irinotecan -FOI), provides the best clinical benefit in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) patients. In this study we explore the role of miRNAs (MIR) as modulators of chemosensitivity to identify potential biomarkers of response. We find that 41 and 84 microRNA inhibitors enhance the sensitivity of Capan1 and MiaPaCa2 PDAC cells respectively. These include a MIR1307-inhibitor that we validate in further PDAC cell lines. Chemotherapy-induced apoptosis and DNA damage accumulation are higher in MIR1307 knock-out (MIR1307KO) versus control PDAC cells, while re-expression of MIR1307 in MIR1307KO cells rescues these effects. We identify binding of MIR1307 to CLIC5 mRNA through covalent ligation of endogenous Argonaute-bound RNAs cross-linking immunoprecipitation assay.
