Genetic relationship among Hyacinth bean (Lablab purpureus) genotypes cultivars from different races based on quantitative traits and random amplified polymorphic DNA marker

    Get PDF
Genetic improvement of the thirty Hyacinth bean cultivars from different races were evaluated using RAPD markers which is essential to enhance the crop for economically and agriculturally important traits. RAPD markers were efficient in separating cultivars according to different races. Twenty sixdecamer primers could generate a total number of 148 bands out which 70.27% (104) were polymorphic. The number of amplification products produced by each primer varied from 4 to 9 with an average of5.69 bands per primer. The size of amplified fragments ranged from 250 to 3000 bp. RAPD based dendrogram showed similarity ranged from 0.38 to 0.96. Genetic distances were concluded using Sorenson Dices similarity coefficient. The genetic relationship obtained with these markers wasdissimilar to that provided by morpho-agronomical trait. Genetically distinct cultivars were identified that could be potentially important source of germplasm for further crop improvement programme in the country

Gyrothrix sagarensis SP. NOV.: A NOVEL HYPHOMYCETOUS FUNGUS ON MEDICINAL PLANT Gardenia latifolia AITON FROM CENTRAL INDIA

    Get PDF
Gardenia latifolia is commonly known as Indian boxwood or Ceylon boxwood. Various parts of this plant are utilized to treat several cases of inflammatory pain, skin diseases, caries in humans, snake bite, stomachache, haemorrhage along with the ephemeral fever in live stocks. During the routine survey of Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya Campus, Sagar for mycotaxonomic evaluation of terrestrial plants an interesting fungal specimen was encountered on G. latifolia Aiton which upon detailed morphological observations and mycotaxonomic treatment, proved to be a novel fungal species Gyrothrix sagarensis. It is also noteworthy that most of the species of this genus Gyrothrix (Corda) Corda, are reported on dead plant parts while the present novel species was collected and examined on living plant parts (i.e. on twig) of G. latifolia

Development of high efficiency solar cells on silicon web

    Get PDF
Web base material is being improved with a goal toward obtaining solar cell efficiencies in excess of 18% (AM1). Carrier loss mechanisms in web silicon was investigated, techniques were developed to reduce carrier recombination in the web, and web cells were fabricated using effective surface passivation. The effect of stress on web cell performance was also investigated

Phenophyology Studiesin Efforts Produced Off Season Citrus (Citrus nobilis var, microcarpa)

Catur Village, Kintamani District, is the main siam citrus producer region in Bali, Indonesia.  However, fruit production seasonal and fluctuate within a year.  High production season, or on season is around June - August, while off season period is in December – January.  Fluctuation in production makes it difficult to reach modern market that required for continuous supply. There is also a big demand for this fruit for local markets, in particular during festive celebration. It is therefore an urgent need to provide continuous supply of the fruit. Physiological manipulation of flowering in citrus is necessary, so that the balance of supply and demand of citrus fruit in the longer time span can be obtained. Theaim of this research was to study the physiology of flowering in citrus in an effort to obtain citrus fruit out of season. Targetedresult is to find out developmental phase and morphological changes of flower initiation to fruit formation, and able to formulate technology that can be applied in the effort to obtain flower and produce fruit of siam citrus off season, at Catur Village, Kintamani District. Bangli Regency, starting in February until November 201

The origin of grand minima in the sunspot cycle

One of the most striking aspects of the 11-year sunspot cycle is that there have been times in the past when some cycles went missing, a most well-known example of this being the Maunder minimum during 1645-1715. Analyses of cosmogenic isotopes (C14 and Be10) indicated that there were about 27 grand minima in the last 11,000 yr, implying that about 2.7% of the solar cycles had conditions appropriate for forcing the Sun into grand minima. We address the question how grand minima are produced and specifically calculate the frequency of occurrence of grand minima from a theoretical dynamo model. We assume that fluctuations in the poloidal field generation mechanism and the meridional circulation produce irregularities of sunspot cycles. Taking these fluctuations to be Gaussian and estimating the values of important parameters from the data of last 28 solar cycles, we show from our flux transport dynamo model that about 1-4% of the sunspot cycles may have conditions suitable for inducing grand minima.Comment: Accepted for publication in Physical Review Letter
