Pendugaan Infiltrasi Menggunakan Data Neraca Air Di Sub Daerah Aliran Sungai Watujali, Gombong (Estimation of Infiltration Based on Water Balance Method at Watujali Sub Watershed, Gombong)

Infiltration rate in a watershed is very important for water management. There are many methods for estimating the rate of infiltration in a watershed. Among of them are direct measurements, hydrograph analysis and water balance calculation. The purpose of this study was to estimate infiltration in the sub watershed under pine forest. The method was based on a relationship between water balance and regression of monthly rainfall and discharge. The results showed that the infiltration rate of pine forest in Watujali Sub Watershed range from 125 mm/year up to 1,193 mm/year. The infiltration rate was highly depended on rainfall as the input. In 2010 with 5,826 mm rainfall, the infiltration rate reached 1,193 mm/year. Estimation of infiltration using water balance data was easy to implement because it only used data of streamflow, rainfall and evapotranspiration

Gas permeability and intrinsic permeability are the major parameters to promote aeration for packed waste. The objectives of this research are to identify physical parameters of gas transfer from a various type of packed wastes and examine ventilation design theory for landfill to enhance waste stabilization. Method to determine value of gas permeability and intrinsic permeability for packed waste is by flushing the packed column containing various type and physical characteristics of wastes with an air pump. Permeability was calculated by measuring pressure gradient on sampling points of the column using inclined manometer at distance 10 cm, 23 cm, 46 cm, 69 cm, 92 cm and 115 cm from origin. Gas permeability is specifically relied on physical parameters of wastes as follows, density, moisture content, particle size and gas velocity on the surface of compacted waste layer. Compost has finer pore structure and smaller pore size than leaves as well as mixed organic (65%) and inorganic wastes (35%). The experiment found the intrinsic permeability of leaves waste are in the order of 10-11 to 10-8 m2, 10-11 to 10-9 m2 for compost and 10-9 m2 for mixed organic (65%) and inorganic wastes (35%)

Temporal Distribution of Sediment Yield From Catchments Covered by Different Pine Plantation Areas

Soil erosion and sedimentation are environmental problems faced by tropical countries. Many researches on soil erosion-sedimentation have been conducted with various results. Quantifying soil erosion-sedimentation and its temporal distribution are important for watershed management. Therefore, a study with the objective to quantify the amount of suspended sediment from catchments under various pine plantation areas was conducted. The research was undertaken during 2010 to 2017 in seven catchments with various percentage of pine coverage in Kebumen Regency, Central Java Province. The rainfall data were collected from two rainfall stations. A tide gauge was installed at the outlet of each catchment to monitor stream water level. The water samples for every stream water level increment were analyzed to obtain sediment concentration. The results showed that monthly suspended sediment of the catchments was high in January to April and October to December, and low in May to September. The annual suspended sediment fluctuated during the study period. Non-linear correlations were observed between suspended sediment and rainfall as well as suspended sediment and percentage pine areas. The line trend between suspended sediment and percentage of pine areas showed that the increase in pine areas decreased suspended sediment, with the slope of the graph is sharp at the percentage of pine areas from 8% to 40%, then is gentle for pine plantation areas more than 40%

Resident's concerns and attitudes towards Solid Waste Management facilities

Because of limited space, the siting and construction of a new SWM facility is a big challenge in Japan. An SWM facility should be socially accepted as well as environmentally and economically sound. This study aimed to investigate people’s concerns about SWM facilities and their attitudes towards such facilities. A questionnaire was designed based on literature reviews and was sent to residents in three municipalities with different backgrounds. The questions covered concerns on the impact of an SWM facility, management aspects, unfairness of facility siting, and attitudes to facility construction. Of the many concerns, “pollution and health effect” had the highest rating, followed by “reliability”, “damage to nature” and “cost”. The rating was different between municipalities, reflecting their geographic and social backgrounds. Using factor analysis, correlations among concerns were analyzed, and five principal components were extracted, namely “pollution”, “nuisance”, “facility management”, “planning of facility”, and “merit/demerit”. Although obvious correlations were not found between individual items of concern and attitudes to construction of a facility, the discriminant analysis indicated dominant concerns of attitudes, but the disagreement between actual impact and citizens were found. As for attributes, the “opposed” attitude decreased for residents who had visited an SWM facility, even if they had only seen it from outside

Pengaruh Persentase Penutupan Hutan Terhadap Debit Puncak Di Sub Daerah Aliran Sungai Hutan Alam Kabupaten Tanah Laut (the Effect of Forest Coverage Percentage on Peak Discharge in the Natural Forest Sub Watershed, Tanah Laut Regency)
