Emotional Intelligence in the Management of Educational Institutions in Portugal

En el concepto actual de sociedad mundial en la que el ser humano ha de ser entendido como un todo en su interacción con el medio ambiente que lo rodea, se enmarca el concepto de la inteligencia emocional en la que el ser humano ya no es sólo un ser racional ya que se constituye, al mismo tiempo, como un ser humano portador de emociones y afectos, y como se describe en recientes estudios neurológicos, el resultado de lo que hacemos, pensamos y decidimos es el fruto de lo que los sentidos recogen y los procesos del intelecto. Enmarcado en el concepto de inteligencia emocional nace una nueva perspectiva de gestión con el fin de verificar las características de la inteligencia emocional en la gestión de las instituciones educativas portuguesas. A través de un caso de estudio, de carácter exploratorio y descriptivo y que tenía como instrumento de auto-descripción un cuestionario, aplicado al universo de los directores más eficaces en Portugal, se ha podido concluir, al igual que en otros estudios internacionales, que, actualmente, poseer características propias de la inteligencia emocional es esencial para una gestión eficaz de las organizaciones educativas.In the current concept of global society in which the human being has to be understood as a whole in interaction with the environment that surrounds it, fits the concept of emotional intelligence in which the human being is no longer just a rational being to constitute himself, at the same time, as a human being also carrier of emotions and affections, as described on the recent neurological studies that convey that the result of what we do, we believe and we decide is the result of what the senses collect and intellect processes. Framed in this concept of emotional intelligence comes a new perspective of management, where was developed this research, in order to verify if the characteristics of emotional intelligence are present in the management of portuguese educational institutions. Through a case study, of descriptive and exploratory nature, which had as an instrument a self-description questionnaire, applied to the universe of the most effective managers in Portugal, it was possible to conclude, like other international studies, that currently to possess characteristics of emotional intelligence, is essential to an effective management of educational organizations.Na atual conjuntura de globalização, em que o ser humano deve ser percebido como um todo, em interação com o meio que o rodeia, destaca-se o conceito de inteligência emocional, que nos obriga a olhar para o indivíduo, não apenas enquanto ser racional, mas também, e paralelamente, como ser portador de emoções e afetos, já que, à luz dos estudos neurológicos mais recentes, o resultado do que somos, fazemos, pensamos e decidimos é fruto do que os sentidos recolhem e do que o intelecto processa. Enquadrado neste novo conceito de inteligência emocional surge uma nova perspetiva de gestão das organizações educativas, quadro em que se desenvolveu a presente investigação, procurando verificar-se se as características de inteligência emocional se encontram presentes em gestores escolares. Design and Technology: A Historical Perspective on the Mediating Role of Technology Between Industrial Design and Engineering

The interdisciplinary relationship between industrial design and mechanical engineering is sensitive. This research focuses on understanding how one can positively mediate this relation, in order to foster innovation. In this paper, technology is considered for this role since it has, in some historical moments, served as an integrator of these two disciplines, in processes that led to innovation. By means of an extensive literature review, covering three different periods of technological development, both disciplines’ positioning in society and their link with technology are analyzed and compared. The three case studies selected help to illustrate, precisely, the technology positioning between both disciplines and society. Literature assumes that industrial design is rooted in the rise of criticism against both the machine and the mechanized production. This is an opposing approach to the current paradigm, in which design plays a fundamental role in adapting technology to society. Also, the social problems caused by the mechanized and massive production triggered the mechanical engineering emergence, as a professionalized discipline. Technology was intrinsically connected with both industrial design and mechanical engineering emergence and subsequent evolution. Marketing turístico: Évora, uma cidade, um produto - E.Box

A crescente importância do sector do turismo para a economia das cidades, vilas, aldeias e principalmente dos países, obriga a uma especificação de acções e estratégias de atracção de turistas para todos esses potenciais destinos turísticos. Neste campo, surge a essencial contribuição do marketing, direccionado aqui para o sector do turismo e para todas as opções que possam criar a diferenciação dos destinos em comparação com outros destinos de outros países, ou até mesmo dentro do próprio país. Desta forma, o marketing turístico surge como uma ferramenta de importância extrema para alcançar estes objectivos. Um dos mais fortes meios de captar e cativar turistas para um destino turístico é a focalização de produtos para esse mesmo destino, isto é, produtos que se concentrem no único objectivo de atrair turistas para um destino turístico específico, quer seja um país, uma região, cidade, vila ou aldeia. Surgem assim, como forma de conciliar conjuntos de actividades e experiências num único produto turístico, os produtos turísticos em pacote, cuja diversidade de opções que incorporam acaba por facilitar a visita de quem os adquire. Sendo Évora uma das mais belas e atractivas cidades de Portugal, e até da Península Ibérica, é com naturalidade que surge a ideia fundamental deste projecto, ou seja, a criação de uma gama de produtos turísticos em pacote (E.Box). Este leque de produtos visa, em síntese, conseguir captar turistas e proporcionar-lhes experiências únicas no ambiente histórico e natural que Évora pode oferecer, para que o turista, depois de deixar a cidade, leve consigo mais do que simples recordações de artesanato, mas sim um desejo forte de regressar e repetir a visita, se possível, com mais tempo de estadia

Optimização da separação de compostos orgânicos

Mestrado em Engenharia QuímicaO processo de produção de anilina gera alguns produtos secundários como a ciclohexilamina e o ciclohexanol que terão de ser eliminados do efluente geral desta instalação. Constata-se que a separação destes dois compostos da corrente de efluente e a sua posterior comercialização permite valorizar esta corrente. Pretende-se com este trabalho realizar um estudo detalhado das possíveis sequências de operação de colunas de destilação, recorrendo para isso a um simulador de processos químicos: o Aspen (Versão 2006.5). Determinada a sequência que permite a separação dos compostos com o menor custo, procede-se ainda ao dimensionamento detalhado dos permutadores de calor associados (reebulidores e condensadores) e à realização de um diagrama de processo e instrumentação (P&I) simplificado, para esta sequência. Finalmente foram determinados os diferentes índices de viabilidade económica de projectos, nomeadamente o Valor Actual Líquido, a taxa de Rentabilidade Interna e o Período de Retorno, concluindo-se que a implementação industrial desta sequência de colunas de destilação é economicamente viável. ABSTRACT: The production process of aniline generates secondary products such as cyclohexylamine and cyclohexanol that needs to be removed from the final effluent of the plant. It is assumed that the recovery of these products will bring an economic value to this effluent. This work is intended to conduct a detailed study of the possible sequences of operation of distillation columns, using a computer simulator of chemical processes: Aspen (Version 2006.5) and under a predetermined cyclohexylamine and cyclohexanol selling specification. Once the sequence that allows the separation of compounds with the lowest cost is found, a detailed design of the associated heat exchangers (reboilers and condensers) and a simplified Process and Instrumentation diagram (P&I), are developed. Finally the different cost/benefit indicators were determined, including the Net present value (NPV), the Payback time and the Internal Rate of Return (IRR), concluding that the industrial implementation of this sequence of distillation columns is profitable

Determinantes da criação de valor no pão tradicional alentejano

A globalização acelera os processos de mudança e carrega, pelo menos, o estigma da uniformização. Criou novos mercados e deixou outros anémicos e frágeis. Protegeram-se produtos, criaram-se nichos de mercado. Neste contexto os produtos tradicionais, ligados à identidade cultural das regiões onde são produzidos, de características físicas e organoléticas específicas, precisaram de redefinir o seu espaço. Para que os produtos tradicionais sejam economicamente viáveis e perdurem no tempo, precisam de acrescentar valor ao longo de todo o processo. It created new markets, whilst it allowed others to become anemic and fragile. It protected products and created market niches. A Cross-Functional Approach for the Fuzzy Front End: Highlights from a Conceptual Project

Ideation is regarded as a critical element in the innovation process; besides, it is transversal to the different design models. Notwithstanding its fundamental characteristics for the innovation process, ideation is the least-studied phase and an ambiguous nature is sometimes assigned to it. Consequently, the Fuzzy Front End (FFE) designation was born to describe this early phase and the interest over its study has recently increased. By means of an extensive literature review, ideation is highlighted from the design process and diverging models for the FFE are comparatively analyzed. The importance of a cross-functional approach for the FFE is underpinned with an analysis of a multidisciplinary and mainly conceptual project over the transportation sector. Eletroanálise de fármacos em células eletroquímicas miniaturizadas

Atualmente verifica-se que o desenvolvimento de células eletroquímicas miniaturizadas constitui uma área de elevada aplicação no âmbito da análise de fármacos e outras drogas. O presente trabalho desenvolve-se neste contexto. Recorrendo à voltametria cíclica e voltametria de varrimento linear, e à utilização de elétrodos de carbono de tinta impressa comerciais, revestidos com nanotubos de carbono de paredes múltiplas, este trabalho centra-se na investigação eletroanalítica pioneira do fármaco bilastina, um anti-histamínico de segunda geração. No trabalho investiga-se o comportamento anódico da bilastina num meio hidrometanólico e desenvolve-se uma metodologia voltamétrica com potencial para ser utilizada na deteção e quantificação da bilastina em amostras reais. Os resultados mostraram que a bilastina sofre um processo de oxidação irreversível, que depende do pH do meio. O método de quantificação desenvolvido possui boas características analíticas, sendo que o sensor pode ser reutilizado. Na quantificação da bilastina nas amostras reais obtêm-se boas taxas de recuperação; ABSTRACT: Currently, it is verified that the development of miniaturized electrochemical cells constitutes an area of high application in the field of pharmaceuticals and other drug analysis. The present work is developed in this context. Using cyclic voltammetry and linear scanning voltammetry, and the use of commercial screen-printed carbon electrodes coated with multi-walled carbon nanotubes, this work focuses on pioneering electroanalytical research of the drug bilastine, a second-generation antihistamine. In this work we investigate the anodic behaviour of bilastine in a hydro-methanolic medium, and a voltammetric methodology with potential to be used in the design and quantification of bilastine in real samples is developed. The results showed that bilastine undergoes an irreversible oxidation process that depends on the pH of the medium. The quantification method developed has good analytical characteristics, and the sensor can be reused. In the quantification of bilastine in the actual samples, good recovery rates are obtained

Estado da Arte e Perspetivas Futuras

Foram sete os principais objetivos deste trabalho, descritos seguir: 1: A identificação dos principais fatores que têm definido e limitado o rendimento das várias tecnologias fotovoltaicas ao longo das décadas, juntamente com a identificação de novas abordagens tecnológicas que permitirão ultrapassar estas limitações. Estas novas tecnologias possuem características térmicas, mecânicas e elétricas que se encontram normalmente associadas a moléculas individuais, bem como a partículas atómicas individuais, ao contrário de tecnologias mais convencionais que, devido às suas macroestruturas cristalinas, possuem propriedades associadas a materiais semicondutores convencionais. 2:Outro objetivo igualmente importante constituiu a análise do sector fotovoltaico, que tem revelado uma tendência para custos cada vez menores, não só de manufatura, como também operacionais, acompanhada ao mesmo tempo por uma tendência inversamente proporcional no que toca aos níveis dos rendimentos de conversão. As evoluções dos rendimentos de várias tecnologias em cada geração também serão apresentadas. Infelizmente, em muitas tecnologias presentes no mercado, tem havido uma estagnação no crescimento do rendimento de conversão. 3: Igualmente importante para este trabalho é a descrição histórica do preço da energia proveniente de fontes fotovoltaicas e a sua comparação com fontes de energia mais convencionais, com ou sem apoios do estado. 4: A potência instalada, assim como a energia produzida anualmente, mereceram especial atenção neste trabalho, pois os seus valores indicam em ultima analise a penetração de mercado destas tecnologias. 5: Outro tópico de especial relevância analisado diz respeito à produção de silício, que tem contribuído em grande parte para uma redução dos custos de manufatura. Verifica-se que a escala da produção de Silício é cada vez maior, tendo a China protagonizado um papel cada vez mais relevante neste sector. A distribuição da produção conforme a sua aplicação em cada sector económico também será descrita. 6: A análise do caso português também se apresentou como um objetivo importante para este trabalho. Regista-se que a evolução deste sector em Portugal não diverge muito do que tem sido apresentado pelos demais países da União Europeia e do mundo. Regista-se um rápido aumento da potência instalada em Portugal; todavia, este crescimento poderá não se manter indefinidamente devido à natureza da legislação em vigor. 7: Finalmente uma breve análise do estado da indústria fotovoltaica a nível mundial será apresentada. Existem, efetivamente, certos indícios que apontam que o presente ênfase neste sector pode ser quase inteiramente o resultado da legislação que promove o seu crescimento através da aplicação de subsídios. Igualmente importante são os maus hábitos adquiridos por certas entidades privadas com apoios financeiros diretos dos governos respetivos aos países onde se encontram, assim como as inevitáveis consequências associadas.The main seven objectives of this paper are as follows: 1: The identification of the main factors that have defined and limited the efficiency of various photovoltaic technologies throughout the decades, along with the identification of new technological approaches which will allow these limits to be overtaken. These new technological approaches possess thermal, mechanical and electrical characteristics which are normally associated to discreet molecules as well as individual atomic particles, unlike other more conventional technologies, which due to their macrocrystalline structures, possess properties more akin to conventional semiconductor materials. 2: Another equally important objective is the analysis of the photovoltaic sector, which has presented a tendency for lower costs not just of manufacture but also operational, followed at the same time by a proportional inverse tendency when it comes to the conversion levels. The evolution of efficiencies of several technologies in each generation will also be presented. Unfortunately, most of the technologies currently on the market have been stagnated when it comes to the growth of their efficiency. 3: Also important is the evolution of the price of energy provided by photovoltaic sources and its comparison with more conventional sources of energy, with or without any financial support from the state. 4: The installed power, as well as the annually produced energy, deserves a special attention in this paper, for their values ultimately point out the market penetration of these technologies. 5: Another topic of special relevance concerns the production of silicon, which has contributed in large part for an ever great reduction of manufacturing costs. It is shown that its scale of production is increasingly larger, which China being the main protagonist, having an ever larger role in this sector. The distribution of production in accordance with its applications in each sector will also be described. 6: The analysis of the Portuguese case also presents itself as an important objective for this paper. The evolution of this sector in Portugal do not deviate significantly from the case of other countries of the European Union, as well as globally. A rapid growth of the installed base is being observed in Portugal, but unfortunately this growth may not hold indefinitely due to the nature of the uphold legislation. 7: Finally, a brief analysis of the state of the global photovoltaic industry will be presented. There are hints which suggest that the present emphasis and progress in this sector may be due almost entirely to the result of the current legislation in place, which promotes its growth through the application of subsidies. Equally important are the bad habits that some private entities acquire through the providence of state financial programs belonging to the respective countries where they are doing business in, and its inevitable associated consequences

Percursos de inclusão social em Portugal - dois estudos de caso centrados nas políticas locais para pessoas com necessidades especiais

The investigation work that presents looks to identify the politics and social educative projects that promote social inclusion of people with special needs in the cities. The study focused on the Portuguese cities that are a part of the International Association of Educating Cities, which the Letter of Principles aims for an intervention of the local authorities, in a way of fighting social exclusion, promoting, trough formal, non-formal and informal education, projects centred on the communities and that contribute, through the participation of the citizens, social institutions and educational institutions, to a more inclusive city.El trabajo de investigación que se presenta busca identificar las políticas y los proyectos socioeducativos que fomenten la inclusión social en las ciudades, de las personas con necesidades especiales. El estudio se centró en las ciudades portuguesas que forman parte de la Red Internacional de Ciudades Educadoras, cuya Carta de Principios señala que la participación de las autoridades locales con el fin de combatir la exclusión social mediante la promoción, a través de la educación formal, no formal e informal, proyectos centrados en las comunidades y que contribuyan, por la participación de los ciudadanos, de las instituciones sociales y educativas para que la ciudad sea más inclusiva.O trabalho de investigação que se apresenta procura identificar as políticas e os projetos socioeducativos que fomentam a inclusão social nas cidades, das pessoas com necessidades especiais.
