Traffic flow is expressed in passenger car units ( PCU) using a conversion favtor called the passenger car equivalent (PCE). The EMP value is used to overcome differences in the space required by a vehicle when making movements in traffic. The emp value is highly dependent on environmental factors, type of vehicle, terrain conditions, vehicle dimensions, the area of road space used, and vehicle flow. This research was conducted to obtain a comparison of the value of EMP with MKJI 1997 with multyple linear regression calculations. Data collection is carried out to obtain traffic volume and road geometric. The analysis method used is using multyple linear regression method, the results of the analysis of the EMP value of the Letjen S Parman road were obtained for Jalan Letjen S Parman on the left side of weekdays 0.271 for MC and 2.581 for HV, for the right side of weekdays 0.244 for MC and 5.467 for HV, Letjen S Parman left side weekend 0.389 for MC and 2.495 for HV. There is a difference between the EMP value in the field and the emp value in MKJI, namely for MC of 7.74%, - 2.45%, 35.73%, and for HV of 53.50%, 78.05%, 51.90%.Arus lalu lintas dinyatakan kedalam satuan mobil penumpang (SMP) yang menggunakan suatu faktor konversu yag disebut ekivalensi mobil penumpang (EMP).

This research aims to observe the effectiveness of supportive group therapy to improve the optimism of patients with chronic renal failure undergoing the hemodialysis. The subject was divided into the experimental group (n= 4) and control group (n = 4). The research design was pre-test post- test control group and was measured by three times (pre-test, posttest and follow-up for two weeks). Life Orientation Test (LOT-R) developed by Scheier and Carver (1985) was the measurement tools used to measure the optimism. The training module was arranged based upon the supportive group theory by van den Heuvel, et al (2002). The results showed that the subject in the experimental group had a significant increase in the optimism score in comparison to the control group that was given no supportive group therapy. The implication and limitation in the research finding would be the discussion

Abstract

Background

Animals have been used as a source of medicine in Brazil since ancient times, and have played a significant role in healing practices. Specifically in Northeast Brazil, zootherapy is a very common practice, and together with medicinal plants, it plays an important role as a therapeutic alternative. In the state of Ceara, no works have been carried out on rural communities with regard to use of zootherapeutics, even though the practice of zootherapy is common in this region. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze the use of medicinal animals in a rural community (Poco Dantas) in the municipality of Crato, Ceara, Brazil.

Methods

The field survey was carried out from October 2008 to January 2009 by conducting interviews using structured questionnaires with 72 people (33 men and 39 women), who provided information on animal species used as remedies, body parts used to prepare the remedies, and ailments for which the remedies were prescribed. We calculated the informant consensus factor (ICF) to determine the consensus over which species are effective for particular ailments, as well as the species use value (UV) to determine the extent of utilization of each species.

Results

A total of 29 species, distributed in 17 families were categorized as having some medicinal property. The taxa most represented were: mammals (9), insects (7), reptiles and birds (4). <it>Progne chalybea</it>, a species not previously recorded as being of medicinal use, was cited in the present work, where it is utilized in the treatment of alcoholism. The animals are used in the treatment of 34 diseases or symptoms, where sore throat, inflammations and cough are the ailments with the greatest number of citations.

Conclusion

The data show that zootherapy represents an important therapeutic alternative for the inhabitants of the community. New studies on medicinal fauna should be conducted with the aim of determining the exploitation level of the species utilized, promoting sustainable development of medicinal species that are eventually threatened, and preserving and disseminating the knowledge developed by traditional individuals of the community.</p

The study was supported by Arthritis Research UK. Copyright @ 2011 Li et al.BACKGROUND: Understanding of how transcription factors are involved in lymphocyte development still remains a challenge. It has been shown that Egr-2 deficiency results in impaired NKT cell development and defective positive selection of T cells. Here we investigated the development of T, B and NKT cells in Egr-2 transgenic mice and the roles in the regulation of distinct stages of B and T cell development. METHODS AND FINDINGS: The expression of Egr1, 2 and 3 were analysed at different stages of T and B cell development by RT-PCT and results showed that the expression was strictly regulated at different stages. Forced expression of Egr-2 in CD2+ lymphocytes resulted in a severe reduction of CD4+CD8+ (DP) cells in thymus and pro-B cells in bone marrow, which was associated with reduced expression of Notch1 in ISP thymocytes and Pax5 in pro-B cells, suggesting that retraction of Egr-2 at the ISP and pro-B cell stages is important for the activation of lineage differentiation programs. In contrast to reduction of DP and pro-B cells, Egr-2 enhanced the maturation of DP cells into single positive (SP) T and NKT cells in thymus, and immature B cells into mature B cells in bone marrow. CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrate that Egr-2 expressed in restricted stages of lymphocyte development plays a dynamic, but similar role for the development of T, NKT and B cells. This article is provided by the Brunel Open Access publishing fund

Modulated Instability in Five-Dimensional U(1) Charged AdS Black Hole with R**2-term

We study the effect of R**2 term to the modulated instability in the U(1) charged black hole in five-dimensional Anti-de Sitter space-time. We consider the first-order corrections of R**2 term to the background and the linear order perturbations in the equations of motion. From the analysis, we clarify the effect of R**2 term in the modulated instability, and conclude that fluctuations are stable in the whole bulk in the range of values the coefficient of R**2 term can take.Comment: 19 pages, 1 figures; (v4) Published version in JHE
