An Optimal Control Problem in Coefficients for a Strongly Degenerate Parabolic Equation with Interior Degeneracy
We deal with an optimal control problem in coefficients for a strongly degenerate diffusion equation with interior degeneracy, which is due to the nonnegative diffusion coefficient vanishing with some rate at an interior point of a multi-dimensional space domain. The optimal controller is searched in the class of functions having essentially bounded partial derivatives. The existence of the state system and of the optimal control are proved in a functional framework constructed on weighted spaces. By an approximating control process, explicit approximating optimality conditions are deduced, and a representation theorem allows one to express the approximating optimal control as the solution to the eikonal equation. Under certain hypotheses, further properties of the approximating optimal control are proved, including uniqueness in some situations. The uniform convergence of a sequence of approximating controllers to the solution of the exact control problem is provided. The optimal controller is numerically constructed in a square domain
La inducción electromagnética en el ecuador nigeriano
Se correlacionan las variaciones geomagnéticas con las corrientes ionosféricas en la zona ecuatorial nigeriana utilizando un método previamente introducido por las autoras en el análisis del electrochorro ecuatorial de Perú. Se comparan las conclusiones obtenidas en ambas zonas. En base a los resultados se realiza un análisis crÃtico de los métodos teóricos de obtención de las corrientes externas e inducidas a partir de las variaciones geomagnéticas. Se encuentra la necesidad de introducir un nuevo método que tenga en cuenta variaciones horizontales en la conductividad terrestre.By means of a method previously introduced by the authors for the analysis of the equatorial electroject in Perú, the geomagnetic variations are correlated with the ionospheric currents in the Nigerian equatorial region. The conclusions obtained for both locations are compared. A critical analysis of the theoretical methods for obtaining the external and induced currents from the geomagnetic variations is performed based on the results. Corriente inducida por el electrochorro en Sudamérica ecuatorial
Para correlacionar la corriente del electrochorro ecuatorial con las variaciones diarias Sq es necesario determinar qué parte de las mismas es debida a las corrientes inducidas por aquél en la tierra. La importancia de esa contribución está actualmente en discusión y, en particular, se ha afirmado que ella es nula. En este trabajo se propone un nuevo método para separar la parte inducida y un modelo que permite comprobar simultáneamente la validez del método propuesto y de los usuales. Se encuentra que la contribución a las variaciones Sq de las corrientes inducidas por el chorro ecuatorial es importante y que el nuevo método es el que mejor correlaciona los valores medidos de la corriente integrada en el mismo con esas variaciones.In order to correlate the electrojet current with the geomagnetic dayly variation Sq it is necessary to decide which is the better way to take into account the internal part of the enhancement field. The importance of this contribution has been discussed by other authors, who have disregarded it. Here, a new method of separating the internal to the external parts is proposed and a model that allows to verify its validity simultaneously with other usual methods is also given. It is found that the contribution of the induced current to the geomagnetic variations is importan and the new method is the one that better correlate the measured values of the integrate current with these variations.Asociación Argentina de GeofÃsicos y Geodesta
