The behaviour of GFRP reinforced concrete columns under monotonic and cyclic axial compression
PRAXIS XXI Project nº CEG 3/3.1/2572-95Retrofitting reinforced concrete columns with FRP materials is a recent but established technique based on their high strength/weight ratio and on other relative advantages, including the fact that FRP external shells prevent or mitigate environmental degradation of the concrete and consequent corrosion of the steel reinforcement. These techniques require, nevertheless, further studies and this paper presents and discusses experimental results obtained in tests of RC columns jacketed with GFRP under monotonic and cyclic axial compression, topic especially relevant when interventions on seismic zones are required. In order to evaluate the effect of the loading type on strength and ductility, 27 circular columns with 750mm height and 150 mm diameter, either of plain concrete or of RC, were tested. Among these circular columns, 11 were confined with two plies of CFRP whereas six were confined with three plies of GFRP. Comparison of results with proposed empirical models is shown.authorsversionpublishe
Spin-polarized transport in ferromagnetic multilayered semiconductor nanostructures
The occurrence of inhomogeneous spin-density distribution in multilayered
ferromagnetic diluted magnetic semiconductor nanostructures leads to strong
dependence of the spin-polarized transport properties on these systems. The
spin-dependent mobility, conductivity and resistivity in
(Ga,Mn)As/GaAs,(Ga,Mn)N/GaN, and (Si,Mn)/Si multilayers are calculated as a
function of temperature, scaled by the average magnetization of the diluted
magnetic semiconductor layers. An increase of the resistivity near the
transition temperature is obtained. We observed that the spin-polarized
transport properties changes strongly among the three materials.Comment: 3 pages, 4 figure
US-China policy on global trade: A survey of selected literature
This study presents an analysis of research about US-China Policy on global trade, between 2015 and 2019. The research methodology was supported by a bibliometric analysis using Web of Science(WOS) and Scopus, broadening the understanding about the subject and understanding that there is a certain orientation of these studies for Policy. This article presents a demonstration of how research in US-China Policy on Global Trade has been treated by researchers in a global perspective. The research questions that guide this research were: RQ1: What were the main keywords present in studies of US-China Policy on Global Trade?; RQ2: Which sectors were studied on US-China Policy on Global Trade studies?; and RQ3: Which technologies were studied on US-China Policy on Global Trade studies? The main findings of this research are the trends identified on the studies analysed, namely, the most cited keyword that emerged from the literature review.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Economic burden of personal protective strategies for dengue disease: an optimal control approach
Dengue fever is a vector-borne disease that is widely spread. It has a vast impact on the economy of countries, especially where the disease is endemic. The associated costs with the disease comprise prevention and treatment. This study focus on the impact of adopting individual behaviors to reduce mosquito bites - avoiding the disease’s transmission - and their associated costs. An epidemiological model is presented with human and mosquito compartments, modeling the interaction of dengue disease. The model assumed some self-protection measures, namely the use of repellent in human skin, wear treated clothes with repellent, and sleep with treated bed nets. The household costs for these protections are taking into account to study their use. We conclude that personal protection could have an impact on the reduction of the infected individuals and the outbreak duration. The costs associated with the personal protection could represent a burden to the household budget, and its purchase could influence the shape of the infected’s curve.publishe

Combining type I and type II seesaw mechanisms in the minimal 3-3-1 model
The minimal 3-3-1 model is perturbative until energies around 4-5TeV, posing
a challenge to generate neutrino masses at eV scale, mainly if one aims to take
advantage of the seesaw mechanism. As a means to circumvent this problem we
propose a modification of the model such that it accommodates the type I and
type II seesaw mechanisms altogether. We show that the conjunction of both
mechanisms yield a neutrino mass expression suppressed by a high power of the
cutoff scale, , in its denominator. With such a suppression term we
naturally obtain neutrino masses at eV scale when is around few TeV. We
also investigate the size of lepton flavor violation through the process .Comment: about 15 pages, no figure
