Delayed commutation in quantum computer networks
In the same way that classical computer networks connect and enhance the
capabilities of classical computers, quantum networks can combine the
advantages of quantum information and communications. We propose a
non-classical network element, a delayed commutation switch, that can solve the
problem of switching time in packet switching networks. With the help of some
local ancillary qubits and superdense codes we can route the information after

Multiple light scattering in nematic liquid crystals
We present a rigorous treatment of the diffusion approximation for multiple
light scattering in anisotropic random media, and apply it to director
fluctuations in a nematic liquid crystal. For a typical nematic material, 5CB,
we give numerical values of the diffusion constants and .
We also calculate the temporal autocorrelation function measured in Diffusing

Using Workers’ Compensation Claims Data to Characterize Occupational Injuries in the Commercial Grain Elevator Industry
Workplace injuries in the grain handling industry are common, yet little research has characterized worker injuries in grain elevators across all hazard types. Learning from past injuries is essential for preventing future occurrences, but the lack of injury information for the grain handling industry hinders this effort. The present study addresses this knowledge gap by using data from over 7000 workers‘ compensation claims reported from 2008 to 2016 by commercial grain handling facilities in the U.S. to characterize injury costs and severity. The total amount paid for each claim was used as a measure of injury severity. The effects of employee age and tenure, cause of injury, and body part injured on the cost of work-related injuries were investigated. Contingency tables were used to classify the variable pairs. The chi-square test and chi-square residuals were employed to evaluate the relationship between the variable pairs and identify the at-risk groups. Results showed that the employee age and tenure, cause of injury, and body part injured have a significant influence on the cost paid for the claim. Several at-risk groups were identified as a result of the analyses. Findings from the study will assist commercial grain elevators in the development of targeted safety interventions and assist grain elevator safety managers in mitigating financial and social losses from occupational injuries
EFFECTS OF BLANCHING ON GRAPES (VITIS VINIFERA) AND CHANGES DURING STORAGE IN SYRUP
This paper studies the effects of conventional and microwave blanching on grapes that are being processed for storage in syrup. An analysis was made of the blanching effects on macro- and micronutrients, as well as on color and mechanical properties. To test the effectiveness of these blanching treatments, enzymatic residual activity was measured for polyphenol oxidase, peroxidase and pectinmethylesterase. Both blanching treatments reduced enzyme activity in the grapes, especially polyphenol oxidase (99%). Blanching treatments also caused significant decrease in tartaric acid (TA) also as in color and mechanical changes, more marked in conventional-treated samples. As for the effect of storage, microwave treatment supposed a greater stability of TA and total phenols than conventional one, also as a greater antioxidant activity of grapes.
