Capital structure speed of adjustment heterogeneity across zero leverage and leveraged European firms
This paper investigates whether leveraged and zero-leverage firms pursue or not a debt target level and, if so, how fast they adjust to that target. We also investigate how the influence of firms’ debt policy on capital structure speed of adjustment (SOA) changes with different financial systems, macroeconomic conditions, financial constraints and financial flexibility levels. Using the dynamic panel fractional estimator and a sample of European listed firms for the 1995–2016 period, we find that both zero-leverage and leveraged firms actively adjust to a target debt ratio. We also find that, in general, leveraged firms display a significantly higher SOA than zero-leverage firms (27.6 % vs. 22.1 %), with only two exceptions: there are no significant differences when the analysis is restricted to financially constrained firms; and during the 2008 financial crisis zero-leverage firms adjusted significantly faster (46.8 %) than leveraged firms (25.6 %) and relative to non-crisis years (21.6 %).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Behavior of sorghum lines in relation to sugarcane borer Diatraea sacchardis (Fabricius, 1974).
Sorghum lines were evaluated for resistance to the sugarcane borer (Diatraea saccharalist) at the Afranio Research Field, Pernambuco in 1976. The infestations of the lines are given in Table 1. There was significant simple positive correlation between infestation percentage and infestation intensity (r= 0.86*). There was no correlation between infestation percentage and infestation intensity with plant height or with number and external diameter of internodes.E em Annual Plant Resistance Insects Newsletter, v.4, p.38-39, 1978
Host-directed therapies for COVID-19
Purpose of review:
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2-induced hyperinflammation is a major cause of death or end-organ dysfunction in COVID-19 patients. We review adjunct host-directed therapies (HDTs) for COVID-19 management.
Recent findings:
The use of umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells as HDT for COVID-19 has been shown to be safe in phase 1 and 2 trials. Trials of anti-interleukin-6 receptor antibodies show promising mortality benefit in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. Repurposed drugs and monoclonal antibodies targeting specific cytokines acting on different aspects of the pro- and anti-inflammatory cascades are under evaluation.
Summary:
A range of HDTs shows promise for reducing mortality and improving long term disability in patients with severe COVID-19, and require evaluation in randomized, controlled trial
Selection strategies of segregant soybean populations for resistance to Asian rust.
The objective of this work was to identify the best selection strategies for the more promising parental combinations to obtain lines with good resistance to soybean Asian rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi). Two experiments were carried out in the field during the 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 growing seasons, to determine the percentage of infected leaf area of individual plants offive parents and their segregant F2 and F3 populations. The data obtained indicates that additive genetic variance predominates in the control of soybean resistance to Asian rust, and that the year and time of assessment do not significantly inftuence the estimates of the genetic parameters obtained. The narrow-sense heritability (h~ ranged from 23.12 to 55.83%, and indicates the possibility of successful selection of resistant individuais in the early generations of the breeding programo Ali the procedures used to select the most promising populations to generate superior inbred lines for resistance to P pachyrhizi presented similar results and identified the BRO1-18437 x BRS 232 population as the best for inbred line selection
Interference of genotypes x environments interaction in the genetic control of resistance to asian rust soybean.

Intrahepatic Clear Cell Cholangiocarcinoma - An Uncommon Histologic Subtype: Case Report and Literature Review
Clear-cell cholangiocarcinoma is a very uncommon variant of cholangiocarcinoma with a largely unknown natural history and prognosis. We report a case of a 51-year-old previously healthy woman presenting with a large liver nodule found on routine imaging. Needle biopsy of the lesion suggested a non-hepatocellular carcinoma. After extensive workup for other primary neoplasms, the patient underwent a partial hepatectomy. Histopathology was compatible with a moderately differentiated clear-cell cholangiocarcinoma. There was no evidence of liver disease in the remaining tissue. The patient underwent chemotherapy and remains in clinical remission after two years.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Health professionals’ knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes toward baby-led weaning: scoping review
Introduction: Baby-led weaning (BLW) is a growing method for parents to introduce food to their kids. As advisers whoaffect the decisions of parents, health practitioners have significant obligations in this regard. Objective: We aim to identify existing literature on the knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes of health professionalstoward BLW.Methods: We carried out a scoping review in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews andMeta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews. After registering with Open Science Framework, published articles wereretrieved from EBSCOhost, PubMed, SciELO, ScienceDirect, Open Grey, and the Portuguese Scientific Open AccessRepository. Primary studies with full-text availability in English, Spanish, or Portuguese, and no data publication limitationswere included. Results: The final sample included seven publications conducted in five countries published between 2012 and 2022. Onlyone study employed a hybrid methodology showing incongruent practices in parents/health professionals on BLW, whereasmost studies employed a quantitative approach. Regarding BLW, it is recognized that there is a dearth of evidence, consensus, and advice. Conclusion: Despite benefits, health professionals hesitate to recommend BLW due to insufficient study and safety con-cerns, warranting more research. Hence, our scoping review demonstrated that BLW is a scientifically under-researched sub-ject, indicating a significant research gap that must be filled in the future.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
