This study was undertaken to determine the effect of nutritional management of broodstock of Penaeus monodon on growth and maturation. Test specimens were obtained from a grow-out pond before attainment of maturity and were reared in hatchery tanks. Four types of dietary treatments (M1–M4) were given to separate batches that were run in duplicate. Feeding trials continued for five months. A diet with live bloodworm, bioencapsulated to contain tricalcic phosphate as its major component, was found to be the most efficient. Specimens of this particular batch assimilated food more efficiently, grew at a faster rate and attained maturity earlier than other groups. Bloodworm provided the lipid fractions for which there is no de novo synthesis in shrimp. Modeling of Common Rail Fuel Injection System of Four Cylinder Hydrogen Fueled Engine

    Get PDF
Automotive system components, such as injection system, which have an increasing number of parameters and new design approaches, are required. It is no longer possible to optimize such a system solely based on experience or forward optimization. Modeling of hydrogen fuel injection system is a very important tool that can be used for predicting the effect of advanced injection strategies on combustion and emissions of a hydrogenfueled engine using port fuel injection. This paper addresses the modeling of common rail fuel injection system for four stroke four cylinder port injection hydrogen fueled engine. The common rail injection system model has been developed utilizing GT-FUEL commercial software. Focus is paid for the wave propagation phenomena arising in this system subsequent to the injection event and pressure oscillations that influence the injected fuel quantity. One dimensional flow equations in conservation form are employed to simulate wave propagation phenomena throughout the common rail (accumulator). The interaction effect of operational conditions including the engine speed and rail pressure is illustrated. The required compromise solutions are discussed in details. It can be seen that the common rail injection system is a promising enhancement for hydrogen port injection engine

Optical properties of tetrapod nanostructured zinc oxide by chemical vapour deposition

    Get PDF
Tetrapod nanostructured zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films have been deposited onto indium tin oxide (ITO) coated glass substrate by thermal chemical vapor deposition (TCVD) technique. This work studies the effects of annealing temperature ranging from 100–500 ºC towards its physical and optical properties. FESEM images showed that the structural properties of tetrapod nanostructured ZnO thin film were affected by the annealing temperature. The thickness of thin film is strongly support the FESEM analysis. The optical band gap energy (Eg) was evaluated at 2.78 – 3.06 eV, which the ZnO thin film was found to be influenced by the change of interatomic spacing of semiconductor. The result shows that the higher annealing temperature greatly affects the physical structure of tetrapod nanostructured ZnO thin film to become narrow and longer length. Keywords: tetrapod; TCVD; synthesizing; annealing; zinc oxid

Effects of modified atmosphere packaging on microbiological load and physico-chemical properties of barramundi (Lates calcarifer Bloch) fillets at 8°C

    Get PDF
Different modified atmosphere conditions with various CO2 concentrations on microbial load (psychrophile, mesophile aerobic and anaerobic bacteria) and physico-chemical properties of barramundi (Lates calcarifer Bloch) fillets stored at 8°C were compared to determine the best packaging conditions. The gas conditions evaluated were 100% CO2 (M1), 75% CO2/25% N2 (M2), 50% CO2/50% N2 (M3), 25% CO2/75% N2 (M4) and 100% N2 (control). High CO2 concentration (M1 and M2) of fish fillets delayed the psychrophilic bacteria growth compared to low CO2 concentration (50% and 25% CO2) as well as the mesophilic, anaerobic and histamine forming bacteria. We concluded that the atmosphere with 75:25% and 100:0 (CO2:N2) had the most appropriate gas composition to inhibit the microbial growth and prolong the shelf life of barramundi fillets (p<0.05)

A regional water quality model designed for a range of users and for retrofit and re-use

    No full text
We discuss the motivations for, and software design concepts underpinning, the development of a regional water quality model. The Environmental Management Support System (EMSS) was developed to predict daily fluxes of runoff, total suspended sediment, total nitrogen and total phosphorous through a large-scale river network. It was built using a custom environmental modelling framework called Tarsier, founded on the Borland C++ Builder rapid application development environment. Three autonomous models are integrated within the EMSS, but are loosely coupled so that alternative models could be retrofitted into the system if desired. The three models share common data handling and visualisation routines resident in the Tarsier modelling environment and used in other modelling applications. The EMSS was designed for use by a range of stakeholders with varying levels of computer and technical proficiency. To satisfy their varying needs, we built three different interfaces, suited to ‘expert’, ‘intermediate’ and ‘basic’ users. The interfaces for the latter two groups were developed using interface prototyping methods, resulting in software that suited the user requirements. The object-oriented design employed in the coding of the EMSS has enhanced the extendibility and re-useability of the software. The EMSS development was part of a larger hydrologic modelling initiative aimed at reducing duplication in model building and standardising approaches to model design and delivery. The lessons learned during development of the EMSS have informed our future model development strategy
