    Automated Structure Solution with the PHENIX Suite

    Significant time and effort are often required to solve and complete a macromolecular crystal structure. The development of automated computational methods for the analysis, solution and completion of crystallographic structures has the potential to produce minimally biased models in a short time without the need for manual intervention. The PHENIX software suite is a highly automated system for macromolecular structure determination that can rapidly arrive at an initial partial model of a structure without significant human intervention, given moderate resolution and good quality data. This achievement has been made possible by the development of new algorithms for structure determination, maximum-likelihood molecular replacement (PHASER), heavy-atom search (HySS), template and pattern-based automated model-building (RESOLVE, TEXTAL), automated macromolecular refinement (phenix.refine), and iterative model-building, density modification and refinement that can operate at moderate resolution (RESOLVE, AutoBuild). These algorithms are based on a highly integrated and comprehensive set of crystallographic libraries that have been built and made available to the community. The algorithms are tightly linked and made easily accessible to users through the PHENIX Wizards and the PHENIX GUI

    Word spotting in continuous speech using wavelet transform

    NoWord spotting in continuous speech is considered a challenging issue due to dynamic nature of speech. Literature contains a variety of novel techniques for the isolated word recognition and spotting. Most of these techniques are based on pattern recognition and similarity measures. This paper amalgamates the use of different techniques that includes wavelet transform, feature extraction and Euclidean distance. Based on the acoustic features, the proposed system is capable of identifying and localizing a target (test) word in a continuous speech of any length. Wavelet transform is used for the time-frequency representation and filtration of speech signal. Only high intensity frequency components are passed to feature extraction and matching process resulting robust performance in terms of matching as well as computational cost

    The nuclear small-subunit ribosomal DNA sequence from the freshwater red alga Boldia erythrosiphon Herndon emend Howard et Parker was determined. Phylogenetic analysis confirms the positioning of this species within the bangiophycidean order of the Compsopogonales. The results strongly suggest that occupation of freshwater habitats by marine red algae has happened at least twice during red algal evolution

    NoOver the last few years, cloud computing has become quite popular. It offers Web-based companies the advantage of scalability. However, this scalability adds complexity which makes analysis and predictable performance difficult. There is a growing body of research on load balancing in cloud data centres which studies the problem from the perspective of the cloud provider. Nevertheless, the load balancing of scalable web servers deployed on the cloud has been subjected to less research. This paper introduces a simple queueing model to analyse the performance metrics of web server under varying traffic loads. This assists web server managers to manage their clusters and understand the trade-off between QoS and cost. In this proposed model two thresholds are used to control the scaling process.
